Event and construction crews face three major physical stressors during long installations: prolonged standing on hard surfaces causes ground reaction forces that overload feet, hips, knees, and lower back, leading to posture shifts and injury risk; poor hydration, inadequate sleep, and poor nutrition prevent proper recovery and cause inflammation, brain fog, and reduced physical performance; and repetitive lifting with awkward body positions stresses shoulders, spine, neck, and joints, especially when combined with fatigue and lack of recovery. High performance requires adequate recovery, as the body keeps records of physical stress and tissues never forget.

3 Ways Event & Construction Crews Quietly Destroy Their Bodies During Long InstallationsAdded:
I'm here at the location of a brand new uh construction site and generally people see the finished product of construction sites and events but they don't see the physical stress that it takes to build them. As a doctor of physical therapy I have witnessed at least three ways that event and construction crews slowly destroy their bodies uh when they're undergoing long installations.
Firstly, they stand for extremely long periods of time and there's no real recovery. You see, hours of standing on concrete uh will overload the feet, the hips, the knees, the low back because of the ground reaction forces. And this fatigue will cause uh a shift in your posture and certain movement mechanics that will wind up causing strain and and putting you at risk for injury.
Secondly, there's poor hydration and poor recovery. As I mentioned before, when these crews are working overnight, when they're sweating in the heat, when they're running on caffeine, uh when there's poor sleep and fast food, the body really doesn't have a chance to recover or and it's also malnourished.
So, that leads to inflammation. Uh it can lead to brain fog. It can lead to poor focus, lower reaction times, and overall reduced physical performance.
And finally, one of the common uh areas that I have found with folks who uh are undergoing strenuous installs is that there's repetitive lifting, a lot of reaching and awkward body positions.
Sometimes they're having to set up staging. They're dealing with lighting, barricades. There's barricades all over this street today. uh they're they're dealing with equipment and cables, tents, displays, all kinds of uh heavy objects. And these these things place stress and strain on the shoulders, the spine, the neck, and the joints, especially when, like I said before, there's no real recovery and there's um poor body mechanics and and and fatigue kind of sets in. So, the reality is that high performance really does require recovery. So whether you're an athlete, an event crew, an executive, a hospitality uh personnel, the body is going to keep score. The body keeps records. Tissues never forget. Folks, live longer and suffer less. It's Dr. Aana here, wishing you well.
