[00:03:29]Millions of you have already seen that well, it's a hit movie Star Wars. And many of you are probably standing in line right now waiting to see it. This cape, this mask, this wand, all worn by the super villain called Darth Vader.

[00:03:44]And he's one of the stars of that record-breaking movie called Star Wars.

[00:03:48]Well, we have the actor who played Darth Vader. He's going to be our first guest and we're going to meet him. But first, let's meet our panel. Okay. Here's Bill Kellen, Peggy Cass, Barry Nelson, and Kitty Carlile.

[00:06:21]I've appeared in numerous films including The Horror of Frankenstein, Jabberwocki, Casino Royale, and A Clockwork Orange. But my current role is really a plum. I play that super villain Darth Vader in one of the hottest films ever made, Star Wars. Here is a poster showing Darth Vader in all his evil glory.

[00:09:57]Very. Number two. How long did it take to make the picture? Uh the actors were actually involved on the film for about four months although did they did about five weeks work in Tunisia and then of course there was a lot of uh post-production work done in the states after.

[00:10:12]>> Uh all the uh sequences for the planet uh the datine and the uh the home planet uh were done in Tunisia.

[00:10:22]>> I see. Do you remember the city?

[00:10:26]>> No. Number three. Uh, what was the most difficult thing on the part for you to do?

[00:10:32]>> The actual wearing of the armor.

[00:10:34]>> Mhm. Number one, how long did it take to uh get you ready uh to to prepare you for the set?

[00:10:43]>> Relatively, was there no makeup needed?

[00:10:46]Completely covered.

[00:10:56]>> Number three. Um, there's been a lot written about why this movie is so enormously successful. Somebody suggested it's because today pictures don't have any real heroes or villains, and this had very definite heroes and villains. Do you think that's a possibility?

[00:11:11]>> I think so. Without a doubt. Yes.

[00:11:13]>> Did number one, did you know it was going to be such an enormous hit when you took it?

[00:11:17]>> No idea. In fact, we we wondered what sort of a movie we were working on at one point.

[00:11:21]>> Oh, really? How do you mean? Well, it looked as though it was either going to be great or know it could be a complete bastard.

[00:11:28]>> Number two, when an actor takes a part where one's face is never seen. I mean, do you do it reluctantly? Do you do it for the money? Do you do it You obviously couldn't tell this was going to be such an important picture.

[00:11:38]>> No, you really take it for the part itself.

[00:11:40]>> You mean there was such a good part that you couldn't see your face?

[00:11:43]>> Well, the the seeing of the face doesn't really worry me all that much.

[00:11:47]>> Oh.

[00:11:47]>> Uh, is it >> Thank you. Number three. What about the voice? Was that why did you take this picture when you could were not going to be seen?

[00:11:57]>> Well, um, >> it was just something that was offered at the time and it seemed like a good idea >> and it was entertained.

[00:12:10]You you had that long black robe which covered your body completely and had that mask, it covered your face, right?

[00:12:16]>> That's right. Tell me truthfully, did you actually go into work every day or did you send someone else in there?

[00:12:23]>> We shared the part.

[00:12:25]>> Well, now they they hire an accomplished actor for this part, then proceed to cover his face. Did you then speak through the mask? Number one, >> you couldn't be heard too well through the mask. In fact, the the uh the voice was dubbed >> and it was >> James L. Jones was the voice.

[00:12:39]>> Oh, you you didn't do the voice either.

[00:12:41]Well, I did on set, but subsequently you need to understand how the movie was made. Yeah. It was separated into three parts. One in Tunis. Uh my part was made totally at L Street Studios.

[00:12:53]>> Uhhuh.

[00:12:54]>> And the rest with all the special effects was done in America subsequently.

[00:12:57]>> They have another picture 20th Century that they have great hopes in. What is it? Number one, >> another Star Wars.

[00:13:03]>> Uh yeah. Well, not not another Star Wars, but they're they hope will be a successor to it.

That's one of the few films you've actually seen where you do see my face because you know most of the Frankenstein films are all very very heavy and big makeup jobs. Uh, this film uh Star Wars was obviously you know covered from head to toe in black all the way through. Uh, very very subtle to me actually. Do you see the face?

[00:16:28]>> Oh well yes of course it bothers me. I think all, as you said before, all actors crave recognition.
