Michigan Making MAJOR Move

[00:00:00]We're talking Michigan recruiting. We got Ethan McDow here from the Wolverine.

[00:00:04]And we got a lot to talk about, but let's start with some flip news. How about that? Bama tight end commit. Colt Lumpress is a major target for Michigan.

[00:00:12]It sounds like there's some buzz around a potential flip, but ultimately, do you think Michigan can get it done?

[00:00:20]>> Yeah, absolutely. Um, I'm pretty optimistic that they're going to be able to pull it off at this point. Um the tight end coaching change around Alabama kind of opened the door for Michigan, Penn State, all these other programs to kind of get back into the mix early this year. And Michigan's done a really good job. They hit the spring visit out of the park. Tight ends coach Freddy Whittingham was up there for a two-day visit up to watched him play lacrosse, ate dinner with his family. They've won over the parents. They've um built a really good relationship with Colt and really outlined their plan for um how they're how he would be utilized in the offense. Josh Colt's a unique prospect.

[00:00:57]He's 6'7, 240. Um really exciting, dynamic pass catcher who right now is kind of just a big outside receiver and um Michigan says that's no problem. They have a history with using tight ends like that and um you know, putting them in the league as well. So, I think they have a good shot as really anyone LA right now. He told me last night his top group is pretty even, but the big piece of news is he moved his Michigan OV to Victor's weekend and that is massive.

[00:01:26]Um, Michigan told him that was the weekend they bring all in all of their top guys and he said it just felt right.

[00:01:32]So, we'll see how things unfold over the next couple months. He's meeting with Alabama's staff today. It's the first time he's going to meet the new tight end's coach. That's a big meeting. I'm interested to see how that goes. But right now, coming out of his um in-home visit with Michigan, feeling very optimistic about where the Wolverines stand.

[00:01:48]>> Wow. All right, let's talk about some more conventional pass catchers at the wide receiver position. A lot of momentum building. Obviously, Quinton Burell is there. Where do you think Michigan stands with him? And who else are they making a priority right now at the wide receiver position?

[00:02:04]>> Yeah, I feel great about where they're at with Quinton. They've done a really good job again this spring. um Michigan was his first offer last January and he has family connections there. His sister Kaye just graduated from Michigan. She played women's soccer for the Wolverines. Um their family knows Michigan, knows the, you know, benefits of the academics over there. Um they know the benefits of the Big 10. All of those are significant draws for Michigan in this recruitment. And um it looked like for like for a while Notre Dame was going to be a top top contender um for Quinton and they faded over the past couple months. Arizona State actually I think is Michigan's biggest competition here. But they're in a really good spot.

[00:02:46]They hosted him twice this spring. Um Micah Simon, the new receivers's coach, has gone all out to build a really genuine strong relationship with their family. Again, they met with him, did an inhome visit with him and his family recently, too. It went really well. He's going to be back for Victor's weekend.

[00:03:03]He's already taken his OV to Arizona State and it didn't really quiet down the Michigan momentum around his recruitment, it seems. So, um, he told me he can make a decision at any time really. It's going to be whenever it feels right. Um, and whenever he does, I think Michigan's going to have a good chance.

[00:03:19]>> All right. Yeah. And, you know, you've hinted at this Victor's weekend, and for any Michigan fans that don't know, that is going to be their big official visit weekend in June. And we're expecting, could it come close to maybe 20 official visitors? And who do you think the headliners are going to be here?

[00:03:37]>> Man, I mean, the list will obviously go down as they lose some guys to early commitments in June, but right now, Josh, it's over 20. They're going to bring in a ton of kids right now for Victor's weekend. Um, you know, like I mentioned, Quinton and Colt, they'll both be there. That's two top top of the board pass catchers.

[00:03:54]probably the biggest name um probably their top overall target regardless of position is um Dakota Garant. He's someone that um you mentioned what other um receivers they're targeting. He is a huge massive target left on the board.

[00:04:07]Uh Josh like I I'm not going to sit up here and say he's Dakota's going to Michigan. Um I think it'd be foolish to be that optimistic, but they've done a really good job in his recruitment. A few months ago, honestly, I thought a summer commitment to Oregon was a foregone conclusion.

[00:04:21]>> Absolutely. Um, at this point, I think Michigan, I think they're they they have his attention. We'll see how things go over the next couple months.

[00:04:32]But I think securing the last OV with him is huge. Uh, the new staff is doing a really really good job building a good relationship with their them here. I've shouted out Micah Simon once already, but I'll do it again. He's doing a really good job. Yeah.

[00:04:44]>> In this recruitment, and Dakota's told me Michigan's doing everything they can to keep him home. And um when he says that uh he he means it. They're they're going all out for him. Um >> it it feels like with Dakota Grant that the longer this recruitment goes, the better it is for Michigan because like you said, I figured he'd be off the board right now to Oregon, but Michigan keeps on picking up ground here and there. And maybe by after Victor's weekend, we could be singing a different tune in terms of where he's trending.

[00:05:17]But I do agree right now they probably have some ground to make up on Dakota Grant.

[00:05:22]>> Yeah. And um even if he doesn't commit there in the summer, they're going to commit him. They're going to recruit him through signing day. Like he's going to be a top target no matter what. Um you mentioned the other Victor's weekend targets. Um >> Chase Brewer, someone that um you know, we feel really really good about him in Michigan. Uh he's going to be on campus.

[00:05:39]Uh top 100 defensive lineman Xavier Muhamd. Someone that has a really really strong connection with their defensive tackles coach Larry Black. He'll be on campus. He's another top guy. Top 100 running back Nigel Newkerk for out of Georgia. Alabama definitely holds the momentum for him. But Tony Alfred was at his school today and Tony can recruit as good as anyone in the country. So never count him out of a recruitment. And um another guy, Josh, that I'm starting to keep a closer eye on is Tavvaris Harrington, Quinton Bros. teammate out of Mount Carmel in um Chicago, rivals 300 safety. Someone that again, it didn't seem like Michigan was really in the picture even as recently as a couple months ago. He hadn't visited in years.

[00:06:23]And he gets on campus twice in the spring and all of a sudden I think Michigan is right in that top group with Alabama and Notre Dame. and he moved his swapped out Bama for Michigan on that last weekend of June. So, some quiet optimism there as well and we'll see how things unfold. But, Victor's weekend is going to be loaded, man. It should be a really exciting weekend for them.
