Non-US Citizens Continue Appearing on Prospective Juror Lists

[00:00:00]Hi, Anthony Forlini, Macomb County Clerk. I'm just reading something regarding North Carolina court approving a consented judgment, which I don't understand what's going on here.

[00:00:11]It basically talks about the fact that the North Carolina law prohibits non-citizens from voting in state elections and prohibits them from serving on jurors.

[00:00:23]Listen, you know back in January, we had jurors that were showing up that were non-citizens, green card holders, whatever documentation they had, they cannot serve on a jury.

[00:00:36]640 of them in 2025, first quarter this year 198 showed up with their green cards or other documentations.

[00:00:47]And the crazy thing is 19 last year were at one time on the qualified voter file here in Michigan.

[00:00:54]11 of them in the first quarter of this year are showing up in the qualified voting file.

[00:01:01]Stuff we turn over to the state. This isn't something us local clerks should be dealing with. These people should be removed from the voting rolls immediately. They should be removed from jury duty. And they shouldn't be a part of our juror process because this is a lot of work for local clerks.

[00:01:19]This is not what we want. We need to fix it. It's not a partisan issue. This was the Republican Party suing the North Carolina State Board of Elections. This shouldn't be a partisan thing. Both Democrats Oh, Democrats are opposing it. Both Democrats and Republicans should be for this. This should be we the people taking care of this, getting this taken care of. Don't make it partisan. Don't make it party-related. It's it's the law. Let's just do the right thing. Put partisan politics aside. Let's get the job done.
