Hi, I'm Dr. Shipra and I welcome you all to episode two of our series Tests and Reports Explained. AFC [nasal sound] stands for antral follicle count. This is an ultrasound test done on day two of the period to count eggs in each ovary individually [MUSIC], ranging from 2 to 5 mm, or even five to 9 mm, we include this.
AFC is a direct test that tells you how much egg [music] quantity your ovaries have in reserve.
With the help of AFC, we can not only make a treatment plan but also titrate the dose of chondrotropin according to AFC during IVF. With the help of AFC, we can decide during IVF whether you will need one cycle or two cycles for a successful pregnancy outcome. So in order to read the test for fertility evaluation AFC with AMA is a better tool to predict your fertility.
