The court’s refusal to penalize quorum-breaking underscores the vital distinction between political obstruction and legal abandonment. It is a calculated judicial check on executive overreach that preserves the strategic autonomy of the legislative minority.

Greg Abbott loses at Texas Supreme CourtAdded:
I'm on my way to Alabama for the rally for voting rights in Montgomery and I just saw this headline. The thing that started this all. Do you remember when a bunch of Democrats in the Texas State House broke quorum so that the state legislature couldn't redraw the districts and then Abbott went on a revenge tour specifically trying to eject Jean Wu from his seat entirely.
Republicans have had it out for Jean Wu for a while. Some candidates including one for the Attorney General's office who said he was going to try to denaturalize Jean Wu, like take away his citizenship. Now I am in this airport and this happened a long time ago. So I went to Ground News to catch up on the details of it. He says Jean Wu that he was not abandoning his post that he was actually representing his constituents by trying to protect their representation in Congress which is true. Ground News lets you sort by bias for media, left, right and center and it looks like the right is just not covering this at all. They are not talking about how Greg Abbott just lost that case in the Texas Supreme Court.
Kind of rare. Texas Supreme Court not a famously Democratic friendly institution. Sorted to the right to see what they were saying.
There's Breitbart. Texas High Court rejects removal of Democratic lawmakers.
Enough, they're not really editorializing in their headlines on the right about this issue like they generally do. It's like they just want to say that it happened and then never talk about it again. The left is a little more editorially about this. High factuality here as well. Independently owned, not a media conglomerate. Texas Supreme Court shoots down GOP governor's request to punish. The state Supreme Court did also express some irritation with the whole concept. Down here you can see in his concurring opinion that one of the justices said that if they break quorum in the future they should expect to be seen in the Supreme Court.
So probably the court will try to interfere.
