Severe thunderstorm riskAñadido:
live from KXAN. This is a severe weather alert from the First Warning Weather Center.
>> Okay, let's jump into it. Two severe thunderstorm warnings out in the Hill Country. The first right on top of Atlanta, the second moving into Mason County. Both of them are warned for the potential of large to very large hail.
Obviously, there's a lot of lightning, so these storms are dangerous with electricity. But if I wipe that off, you can see very heavy rain. Very strong storm moving into Lo. Lo, you need to be staying inside here. I'm not seeing a strong tornado signature. It's mainly just the hail that I'm concerned about.
This first storm has a severe thunderstorm warning in place until 9:45. That's in Lo. And the second one, which stops right here at the county line, a severe thunderstorm warning in place until 10:00 a.m. These storms are moving east at about 45 to 55 milesPH.
So, they're moving, but again, Mason County earlier you already had a severe thunderstorm move through, dropped an inch of rain. Now, you've got another one moving in right behind it. So, there was a flood advisory in place. They're probably going to continue that just because more heavy rain over saturated areas is going to be a problem. The biggest hail signature I'm looking at right now is the Storm Mountain front just south of Lo proper. The gray colored shading here is usually marble size, but it's that hail core just to the south and west of the city of Lano here that's got potential to bring damaging hail. Now, this is radar indicated hail. That radar beam shooting pretty high up in the storm, but we're still going to have to keep an eye on at least quarter size hail, if not bigger.
So, we need to make sure that we are uh in a place of safety. For my friends, a little further downstream here, Kingsland, we're looking at this storm in your area at 933 43 in Fairland and then 946 in Bernie. If this storm holds together long enough to reach Bernick County, which at this point, these storms have kind of overachieved and have maintained their strength despite a cold front kind of racing in uh as we speak. So, this is the time now, Bernick County, let's just put our vehicles in a place of safety.
Let's make sure all of our property is secure and we're staying inside by the time this storm continues to make its way towards the east. Love the fact that we've got some cameras out there in the Hill Country. This is the River City Grill camera furniture and you'll notice in Marble Falls there we certainly have u some dark colored skies up top. Let me look at the Horseshoe Bay one. Yeah, that's good.
>> Horseshoe Bay there. There I'm I'm assuming is certainly some heavy rain falling uh in the uh in the area. Thank you, Tommy. So, we're going to continue to keep an eye on these strong to severe storms moving through that. That's the thing is, you know, I kept my my rain chance at 20%. So, coverage at 20%. It's literally just those two storms that we're keeping an eye on, but possible that we see more storms and move further further east into and approaching the Austin metro. A severe thunderstorm watch is in play until 1:00 this afternoon for the Hill Country, Austin Metro, and Eastern counties here. But again, that front that's continuing to sink further and further south is going to limit that severe risk, it looks like, and the storm chances in general.
So, if I'll go back, I'll just show you what There we go. What we're looking at when it comes to this severe thunderstorm warnings in place, two of them, 9:45 in Lo, 10:00 a.m. in Mason County. Storms moving towards the east.
Biggest concern is going to be for hail.
Very large hail in >> Say that one more time.
>> Dollarized hail. NWS chat dollar size.
>> Yeah. Dollar >> half dollar size hail. Half dollar size hail. Okay. Half dollar size hail. Is that confirmed or radar detected?
>> Uh it says detected.
>> Okay. Radar detected. Radar detected.
Yes. Half dollar size hail. So that would be the Lano storm. You're telling me?
>> Yes. Yes.
>> The LO storm you're telling me? Half dollar size hail. So that's an inch and a quarter uh radar detected hail within Lano. So Leno, at this point, you don't want to be outside in that hail. That is dangerous to you. So you need to just wait this out. But we're continuing to watch these storms approach the Bernett County area. And then again, having to watch some hail within this storm back down towards Mason follow that same track here. It's more east than it is northeast. So we'll have to keep an eye again. These storms continue to hold together, maybe potentially clipping uh parts of western Williamson County. But these are the only two storms I have on radar. Both of them severe with the risk of large to very large hail. So, we're going to get you back to programming here. We've got meteorologist Freddy Veila, meteorologist Tommy House, and myself in studio all keeping an eye on this severe weather threat. So, be sure to stay with us for updates. We'll also pop on cakes.com. And we're working to get you an update on Cakes Plus to our free streaming app later on this morning. So, join us there. We'll return you to regular scheduled programming.
We weather service. So, let's go ahead and get started. We have a severe thunderstorm warning issued for pretty much all of Lano County and then southern portions of Mason County are in this severe thunderstorm warning that continue at least for the next 15 to 30 minutes. Hail. We got some large hail being detected. Radar detected quarter size hail up to half-dollar size hail.
60 mile per hour winds as well. This is just to the south of Lano County. Our radar estimated walnut sized hail.
Quarter in considered severe criteria.
But this is extending further east. So Kingsland, Buchanan Dam, and Bluffton.
We got to be watching for some strong to severe thunderstorms that are going to be moving closer to you in the next few minutes. This storm I believe is moving at around 45 mph. So let's have a look and I'll see the speeds real quick here and give you an updated estimated timeline. So okay, 45 mile per hour miles per hour. The storm is tracking east northeast. So I'm going to draw this out and show you when this is going to be progressing further east toward Lake Victor and burn it right toward 281.
>> Burn it by 9:34.
>> Bertrram 949. So we're going to be on here for KXM plus. Is it 9:45 the next cut in?
>> Yes.
>> All right. All right. So, about 15 to 20 minutes here and I also have meteorologist Freddy Veila who's working the digital, the Slack. He's hopping into. So, we're going to have a full team. We got a team of meteorologists here uh that are going to be walking you through these storms as you're progressing further east toward the I35 corridor. The question is, will they keep their same composure and and severe intensity when they get closer to the I35 corridor? Or will our cold front from the north be able to limit some of the storm fuel and storm potential as these track further east? I would say 281 Burn It Marble Falls. You need to be keeping an eye on this. We have a Horseshoe Bay Resort camera which I can try to pull up here though it's going to be fairly difficult. But the Horseshoe Bay Resort camera is showing some storm clouds on the horizon. is him.
So again, back to the radar product here. Certainly have been watching these storms track east now for the past few hours. So this is for Mason and Lo County. Let's pull up when these warnings are issued and when they expire. The Loano County warning goes until 9:45. The Mason County storm goes until 10 o'clock. So, it's 9:24 here.
Um, if we can confirm to other Freddy or Trinity that just digital this is on KXAM plus or on some sort of streaming.
>> Okay. I just wanted to make sure. All right. So, back again to the radar product.
>> Golf ball size hail reported west of Lo.
>> Golfball sized hail reported west of Lo.
So, let's pull up the radar product here. Thank you, Kristen, for that. So, if I'm going to put let's put a 15-minute loop on this and see when when some of that hail moved in just west of Leno. All right. So, it looks like to me I would say about 15 minutes ago or so, that's exactly where that golf ball size hail was reported. So, thank you for that. And there it is. So, radar estimated golf ballsized hail matches with the detected reported hail position southwest of Leno, south of Highway 29 and west of Highway 16. Back to the reflectivity here. These are some loud storms as they're rolling in. 411 lightning strikes in just 10 minutes.
Bikanan Dam and Kings. This is going to be moving into the uh Kingsland area, the the Highland Lakes coming up pretty soon here. So, Horseshoe Bay, Bannon Dam, Kingsland, Bluffton, Atlanta right now is getting some heavy rain.
Certainly some strong wind gusts. And now south of Mason, this storm looks like it's fairly weakening since moving into Mason County itself.
I would assume that the storm on the right hand side, so that Lano storm is taking up some of that storm energy and it typically one cell beats out the other. Uh Freddy, anything to add? He's checking the National Weather Service Slack chats. Anything that we need to quickly mention? It looks like uh other than this just emergency management kind of confirming tennis ball size hail um in junction that's outside of our our area but uh it looks like that's also moving a bit to the east. So uh that's the only thing so far. Pennyized hail detected in storm across northwest Gillespie County. Uh wind gust 50 to 60 mph. And then we're seeing some golf ball sizes, as Kristen just mentioned a bit ago, golf ball sized hail reported just west of the city of Lo near um Country Road 117.
>> All right, thank you, Freddy. So, this looks like it is a Lo County >> County Road.
>> County Road. Thank you, Freddy. So, this is just to the southsoutheast of Lo County. Right along Highway 71 here, there is some large hail and our Horseshoe Bay Resort camera is showing dark clouds as the storm is knocking on the doorstep. Large hail radar estimated approaching Ranch Road 1431, Bikanon Dam where that camera is. This is about I would say okay 5 to 10 miles.
So, so I would 15 minutes or so before this is going to be right in your area.
Buchanan Dam Kingsland reflectivity here also showing that this storm is is fairly large too in terms of its coverage. This storm is about 26 miles wide in terms of the heavy rain.
Although the hail core is certainly a lot smaller than that, but still a decent sized hail core. At least some sort of hail being detected that stretches 15 miles. Large hail about four to five miles here of that pocket.
It's a hail core. We're going to continue to monitor that Mason County storm. Would be surprised if the severe thunderstorm warning for that continues.
Although again, these cells can can weaken, strengthen, weaken, strengthen.
Also want to mention northern Gillespie County real quick. So north of 290, Harper, Doss, Ranch Road 648.
A lot of lightning and heavy rain here.
Certainly reducing visibility. Southern parts of San Saba and even Lampassis, some lightning strikes were detected there. You don't have to be in the the in the severe thunderstorm warning to get lightning. Proof of that is burn it.
Burn it neighborhoods getting lightning strikes and they're about 15 miles away from this. But canon, damn, the latest scan is now showing some of that.
And that was a look at some of our weather cameras here. So, let's get back to the radar reflectivity as we were showing you a look real quick, hopping off the stream of what's going on outside. But Canon Dam is getting some heavy rain and lightning strikes and we're we're tracking this here on KX plus. We have meteorologist Freddy checking with the National Weather Service handling digital duties and he'll also hop on the radar too.
>> And meteorologist Kristen Curry is going to be over the airwaves at 9:45. So Freddy, we got about 15 more minutes here on KXM Plus at least. What are we looking at right now?
>> Yeah, so you know, obviously we're watching these two pretty massive storms that have moved through. Uh timing a little different um you know, as they move through during morning rush hour now through many spots. Uh it looks like the National Weather Service is about to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for Bernett County. Now, >> let's pull up the times for that. So this is moving at 45 and I would say burn it. You got about 15 to 20 minutes before this is your neighborhood.
>> Yeah. So it looks like they should be issuing that within the next couple of minutes. We're going to be watching to see a >> lot of lightning. 460 strikes.
>> Yeah. Look at all that lightning. Can you pull up the hail signature? And then we we'll look at hail now. Check that out. Uh and you can even see, you know, how massive uh of a signature that is.
But I do golf ball sized hail. Goodness.
>> And it looks like the radar estimated.
Don't want to interrupt real quick, but it looks like the the the estimated hail >> signature >> has been matching so far based off of the junction >> tennis ball size hail. Yeah.
>> And then when Kristen mentioned the Lano >> golf ball size hail, it's doing a fairly decent job. Sometimes these overestimate looks like new update.
>> I think they're updating that one. Let me see what they're >> I can also pull up here on the product and and read it for you with our graphics.
>> Leave it in effect until 9:45.
>> Golf ball size 60 m per hour wind still moving at 45. Yeah, they're they're not other other than them just saying, "Hey, this is this looks like it's still going to be an issue. We're going to leave that severe thunderstorm warning up."
But as I mentioned before, they're about to issue one for Bernick County. Uh and it looks like uh it's mostly just going to be within uh the one spot we were looking at.
Hold, let me come back over here.
>> What do you mean to handle something?
>> Nah. Got it. There we go. Uh there we go. That's what I wanted to pull up actually. So you're able to see exactly where it's kind of moving to. Really this is going to affect multiple cities.
So if you're watching from anywhere north of Marble Falls, you're looking at Fairland, you're looking at Burnett, Lake Victor area, Tao already getting a lot going on there. But I mean this storm's moving at a pretty steady clip to the east um as it continues.
>> You want to put a Let's put a 15-minute loop on this here.
>> Let's do that. Let's go out the other way.
>> And you got to hit this little thing up top here. And we'll show you an easterly track. Yeah, how quickly it's moving along 29 I think is the biggest thing.
Um, >> in this storm, y'all, >> let's get back to that radar reflectivity here.
>> Bird especially because this hail core, although it's it's small, it's so compact, Freddy.
>> Mhm.
>> And it's taken more of an easterly easterly look. So So 15-minute loop again. And it's it's still holding steam into Buchanan Dam. Our Bannon Dam weather camera is looking nice. Now, we can't pull it up because we lose microphone quality, but >> unless you already have it here. I think that's a thing.
>> You can drag it. So, you want to just drag the switcher into the show.
>> We will we will disappear for a hot second.
Sorry about that. All right, we're back.
Just wanted to pull that camera up.
>> There it is.
>> There you go. Now Tommy can go to the other one and he can switch it around and it'll be fine.
>> Lockart.
>> Okay. So, path of the severe storm should be receiving large hail shortly. That's from the National Weather Service.
>> And here we go right now with the horseshoe bay resort camera.
blip there. But notice those dark clouds on the horizon, right? We have the hail, we have the lightning being detected, and this thing is coming in right toward Horseshoe Bay. And we're going to have to see if that Bernett County storm gets extended, that warning gets extended into Bernett County because that thing is looking rather strong, Freddy. A lot of lightning strikes here and that hail core is still pushing further east right along that highway that is highway 29 toward Bannon Dam, Bernett, Dandy, and just north of Fairland. and very interesting to see how quickly this kind of developed and kind of built up as it moved east. I think that's the biggest thing. Um, so that's what we've been watching at this point. But there's a lot of lightning associated with this.
What I'm going to do is I'm going to actually bump this out because I do want to check this out.
>> Sometimes reflectivity is a hard time with the full loop. But yeah, let's >> Yeah, let's let's do it like that. Oh, let me go back out.
>> Yeah, you're going to have >> I'm pretty sure Yeah, I'm going to pull up the radar composite.
>> It takes a hot second.
>> Well, the cap broke. While that loads, I'll explain what happens. So, the cap broke around 5:00 a.m. and these storms took more of an eastnortheast track >> and there's plenty of storm energy here.
I can take I can take the map back for you.
>> Here, we'll just do that.
>> There was plenty of It's plenty of storm energy. This thing is just dealing with a with a pretty much untapped environment while there's a cold front pressing from the north. So, so the timing of the front with the direction of these storms is the question. If when the front fully clears through, how much more of these storms and there's that bund extension?
>> That's the new one. How much more will this continue? And this is for parts of Bernard. I would say about 70% of the county here. And this is a storm that is still moving about 45 miles per hour.
And >> all back there, >> some dark clouds here on the horizon still picked up out of that Horseshoe Bay Resort camera.
>> Looks like we're about to do a cutting in just a hot second.
>> Let me know when I'll hop off. We'll be on cakes and over the airwaves. Hazards, golf ball size, hail, 60 mph wind gust.
This is radar indicated impact. People and animals outdoors will be injured.
Wording from the National Weather Service here, expect hail damage to roofs, siding, window, windows, vehicles, and expect wind damage to those same things, especially dead tree limbs. Locations impacted Bernett, Marble Falls, Kingsland, Bertram, Bannon Dam, Horseshoe Bay, Buchanan Lake Village, Highland Haven, Inks Lake State Park, Spicewood, Oatmeal, Briggs, Longhorn Cavern State Park, Smithwick, Shady Grove, and Cottonwood Shores.
Thunder Roars Head Doors is always a great reminder here. We're trying to push. And what we're doing right now is a few different things are happening.
We're going to be over the airwaves soon on KXA. But on KXM plus, we're going to hop back on again. That's going to be coming up in the next few minutes. But until we get the over the airwave push, we're still going to be here with these updates for you. Uh I'm going to pull up the hail core real quick because this is now right toward Bannon Dam. And this is where ish our weather cameras are located. So I'm actually going to quickly throw on the Lake Travis camera and see if we can get a good look here. This is at the Oasis restaurant to the switcher real quick and then let's pull up these weather cams for you. All right, Lake Travis, the Oasis restaurant. Certainly a reduced visibility.
Heavy rain soon and and this is this is where some large hail could be falling.
I don't think this camera is tremendous at picking up any sort of hail, but I'll keep it on here for a second because Lake Travis in the Oasis restaurant is about to get some large hail as this severe thunderstorm warning has been extended into Bernardet. Anything new, Freddy, from the National Weather Service? Are we we're getting some reportets, too, at KXA.
>> Yeah.
>> So, we're we're we're on top of it with uh Thank you all. Thank you all for being on top of it with some of the storm reports here. We really do appreciate that. But we got warnings stretching, man. And we got warning stretching for about 95 miles and over several hundred lightning strikes if it works. Over 500 97 lightning strikes in just a 10-minute span. So strongest severe storms continuing here for parts of Mason, Lano, Bernett. Uh hail core again is something that has actually strengthened in the past half hour. So back to that 30 minute loop.
Hail moving toward Bannon Dam right along Highway 29. also impacting Park Road FM 2342 north of Kingsland and this is now moving into Bernie. We're hopping on KX Plus meteorologist Kristen Curry has an update and then I'll be back with meteorologist Freddy Veila coming up in the next few minutes. Now we're going to get back over to Kristen Curry.
warning for Bernard County. That's the newest update since I last saw you. The hazards have remained the same, large hail and also some damaging wind gusts, too. We could see a system in any of these storms. But right now, I'm most concerned about this one moving into Bernard County as not only does it have a ton of lightning, which is a threat by the way, although it's not considered severe criteria, lightning is a significant risk to you. We also have significant hail and that I think is going to be the primary concern. We already have confirmed large hail from this storm when it was back in Lo. Right now, Freddy, do you mind taking off that P size because that storm had moved for me. Uh and then you can see it's certainly bigger than P size according to Doppler radar here just in and around the Bannon Dam area. Go ahead and question mark that and see what the radar sees. Golf ball uh size. And again, that's radar detected, not confirmed. If you guys are seeing hail where where you are and if you can take say h take a photo and send it to me, please do because I'd like to see how this hail that's actually reaching the ground is comparing to what radar is seeing a little higher up in this storm.
But this is moving towards the east at about 45 to 55 miles hour. So there's a pretty good chance that this is going to come into Bernett County with the risk of large to very large hail. Radar is estimating this in burn it at 9:51. So again 10 11 minutes from now that means you have two minutes burn it to go outside. Make sure that your vehicle is in a place of safety covered up. Make sure your pets are inside as well and you are inside by the time this storm reaches you. So again burn it at 950 is when this storm is expected to be reaching you. So, uh, this is the biggest storm at the moment, the biggest concern, but it's not the only concern with that storm out in Mason County behind it. Severe thunderstorm warning.
What does it mean? It means stay inside away from windows. That's mainly for wind driven debris is why we say that.
And then avoid electrical appliances, especially if you have an older home.
Sometimes those plumbing pipes can come up above ground if they get struck by lightning. They can that electricity can be conducted inside. But uh we are continuing to monitor those severe thunderstorms out in the Hill Country, but they're holding their strength moving east, which means that severe thunderstorm watch is in place until 1:00 because some of those storms could potentially hold together long enough to reach the Austin metro. Now, the storm chance it it's already verifying. I've kept the rain chance at 20% because the coverage really isn't that much, right?
There's two storms out there. It's not like this is all over the place. There's two severe thunderstorm warnings that we're watching at this moment. Looks like they had just cleared the western side of Mason County. When it flashes on my maps, that means they're updating that warning. So, looks like they just trimmed Mason, western Mason County out of it continues for eastern Mason County down into parts of Gillespie County.
>> There's also large hail in northern Gillespie. I was just about to say, y'all mind putting a a hail tracker on that for me because this part is starting to intensify here just north of uh of Harper and Fredericksburg proper.
And again, there's these storms are moving a little bit more towards the east than they are northeast. So, Highway 87 going into Mason County. We want to avoid walnutsized hail with the radar thinks. Um but we're going to have to watch that very closely because these storms all morning long since 5:00 a.m.
this morning have been pulsing up and down. They started out towards the Edwards Plateau where we saw tennis ball-sized hail in Junction. Uh that's just on the other side of Mason County.
So these storms have been proven to drop big hail. So although it doesn't look maybe quite as impressive on radar right now, those storms could potentially get stronger as they move east. Um zooming out a little bit, Freddy, if you will, and and and put uh since I'm out of play mode now, I'll let you run radar. Let me see big picture here. both uh storms a little further towards the north. So, this still this pocket of lightning is concerning as it approaches burn it.
Burn it. Make sure you're staying inside. Uh and then we do again have that that second storm which looks a little bottomheavy on the strength here.
It's interesting that that part is not included in the warning yet. Any word that from weather service as to whether or not they're going to extend that warning?
>> No, as of now.
>> I would expect possibly because it's it's still south of the front because the front's on Round Rock. There's a lot of storm fuel. It's it's a little lopsided here. So, these storms again pushing to the east and they're getting undercut by that coldront. Uh that was what Tommy was mentioning. We got a front sliding through the Hill Country now bringing in cooler air. Now, it's possible we get a little bit of a strengthening as the lift from the initial front comes through and then those storms start to settle down. But this storm right here, uh zooming down if you will, Freddy, a little closer to western Bernie County and and let me see if you can get all the way down towards this corridor here. Bikinan Dam right along 29. Looks like here we got a real heavy pocket of rainfall. Again, these storms were dropping uh one to one and a half inches of rainfall out in Mason County earlier. Had a flood advisory there in effect. A lot of lightning does look like uh we've got Bikanan Dam between Buchanan Dam and really FM30 uh 08. We've got some very heavy rainfall which is going to drop visibility and make conditions traveling along 29 very very difficult. too.
>> They're saying the storm in northwest Gillespie intensifying. They are watching it to see if they're going to issue something for it.
>> Okay. The storm in northwest Gillespie County. So, that was that one right behind here that I was mentioning potentially seeing an extension southward of that warning. Uh, a lot of lightning and sometimes when we see lightning flare like that, it gives us an idea that this storm is trying to intensify. The threat that I'm most concerned about is hail. We've seen some broad rotation with some of these storms, but nothing of significance when it comes to, you know, a a tight little spin. Not at this moment yet. I think hail would be the bigger concern. But this is the Hail Court with storm number two approaching Highway 87, Fredericksburg down here. So, this is just past Doss and going to continue to move its way towards Eker, uh, if it holds together. But again, it's going to be fighting some cooler air. Take me back up north a little bit. Let's check in on our friends approaching burn. Oh, good news here. latest radar scan has taken that down considerably, but like I said, they're pulsing, going up and coming down, going up and coming down when it comes to the intensity of these storms. Um, let's go ahead and put reflectivity back on um um for me, Freddy, and give me a storm track, if you will, with this storm moving at about 50 miles per hour towards the east. Because if it does hold together long enough, I want to give our friends out in Liberty Hill uh maybe a a timeline here. And Tommy, if you can check weather cams for me and make sure we're not we're not seeing anything juicy that we can tell everybody else about. So like give me maybe a storm starting in Bernard County and a storm track through Bertrram and Liberty Hills. So for our friends there out towards eastern Bernett County into western Williamson County can get an idea of what this looks like. So notice remember I just showed you um the timeline here a few minutes ago is showing 950 and now we're already starting to see that timeline move up.
Bertrram at 956, Muhammad 10:06, Andice at 10:11, and then Florence at 10:16. I always like to undercut this a little bit. Move it up two minutes earlier.
That is your deadline to be inside for severe thunderstorm warning coming for northern Gillespie County. Half dollariz hail.
>> Okay, we saw that coming, right? Severe thunderstorm warning being extended into northwestern Gillespie County. So, here's storm number one. Let's move down to storm number two and see what that Gillespie County warning looks like.
They're working on it, you said, or it had just been issued because this one is in place uh until 10:00 a.m. 10:30 actually, I believe.
>> It is issued. Okay, go ahead and scoot me down uh Freddy if you will to see what that's >> I'm taking.
>> Okay, thank you Tommy.
>> I got you guys on.
>> Okay, so this is the part of the storm that they just issued a warning on.
We'll wait until um we'll wait until our maps catch up here.
>> I'll throw it on.
>> Thank you. Thank you, sir. So, a lot of lightning as we talked about with the intensifying storm. We do anticipate large hail to be the biggest concern.
Now, 60 m per hour winds, nothing to batch your eyes out either. That could certainly cause damage, but this storm is going to move towards the east.
Echer, we need to make sure that our vehicles are in safe place, that we are in a safe place as well. you do have a few minutes before that storm uh that the strongest part of the storm reaches you.
>> Thank you. Thank you. Um interesting that they did include parts of Fredericksburg in the severe thunderstorm warning. So if you've got that KSN weather app, um that you probably just got an alert that a severe thunderstorm warning is in place until 10:30 this morning. So Gillespie County, this is a separate warning for you.
Severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 this morning for Gillespie. this storm moving east. It looks like the strongest part of that storm is actually going to miss the city itself, but I'm more so worried about what happens between Fredericksburg and that county line here up against uh Mason and Vernon. Uh as far storm tracking for me. Thank you, sir.
>> Sorry, there's a little bit of a glitch here, but now we're ready to go.
>> That's okay. Uh we just want to make sure our friends know that hail is the concern right now. Big hail at that. We had this earlier. the strongest uh or the biggest hail that I I should say was tennis ball size just on the other side of uh Mason County. So, these storms have are capable. They've proven themselves. Golf ball size hail approaching Burnett and Gandandy here.
Uh but the hail signature here shows you where hail is possible. So, I know sometimes we focus so much on where is the biggest hail. Keep in mind that it could be quarter size hail within that that gray area. the the lighter the colors, quarter size. Darker the colors, more marble size according to radar. But Bernett, we need to be inside. Um, anything from the uh or or actually we do have a confirmed hail report Friday where are we able to to show that on air because you guys are our eyes and ears in this kind of situation especially because we know thank you sir that there's some more rural areas out there in the Hill Country between some of those bigger cities. So thank you guys for letting us know what you're seeing.
This is Hail and Lano from Early Earth.
Thank you, Gina, for showing us what's falling in your neighborhood. Tough to tell because I'm not I'm not sure what size that pen is. Um, we like to see more common objects like like uh tennis ball coins, right? Or a golf ball, something of that nature. But at least this does show me that this is bigger than bigger than a P size, right? We know that. So, thank you so much, Freddy, for joining uh for for putting that into that graphic for me. I want to stay on here just a little bit longer because we do have that severe thunderstorm warning now in Vernon.
Remind me what time this goes until y'all.
>> The severe thunderstorm warning in parts of Bernard County go until 10:30.
>> 10:30 this morning. So hopefully we've got everybody at work in school and just hunkering down inside where they're supposed to be. But that is a whole lot of lightning right on top of Bernett County. Did we have Oh, there's um any power outages you can see if we've got any coming in. Thank you, sir. Tom Miller in studio letting uh helping us out with some storm coverage here. It's interesting >> just now picking up again. So, east of 281 hail signature estimated picking back up toward Bertrram.
>> Absolutely. So, Bertrram, yes, you would be definitely in the line of fire here with this storm that's moving towards the east. And they're moving pretty good. So, there is a low flooding risk just because the storm that's behind this one already dropped an inch of rain, but we shouldn't see, you know, heavy rain causing the three, four, five inches like what we had a couple weeks ago. The flooding threat actually is um probably the least of my concerns right now. I'm much more concerned about damaging hail. Bertrram, 958 is when this storm is expected to be near your area. 10:08 for Mohammed and 10:13 in Andice here. And also, you know, this is close enough to areas near Liberty Hill um that I'm concerned to we'll see if it holds together long enough to actually reach uh western Williamson County. But burn it, you're probably seeing at least some small hail, if not big hail here as these storms have been um known and proven to bring big hail, lot of lightning, some heavy rain as well.
Quickly show me, Tommy, if there's any sort of broad rotation if you can. Yeah, velocity being pulled up disable in the lightning product. Looks very broad to me.
>> Yeah, that looks ugly. No, thank you.
>> Down toward the other one. Just looks like very broad, but still there's some gusty winds there at least to say the least.
>> Yeah, absolutely. I mean, this right here would be some really strong winds and this warning is for both the damaging hail threat and the damaging wind threat in excess of 60 miles hour here. So, damaging winds possible with this storm uh in Gillespie County. So, as a reminder, here's Fredericksburg. We have doss off to the west right on top of Highway 87. We've got some very heavy rainfall and quite a bit of lightning.
So, uh luckily, you know, it does get a little more sparse in population up here. So, I'm hoping those who maybe do have land or forms or um you know, uh uh property out here are just staying inside while this storm passes. Eert still you got to be in that shelter here as the lightning is starting to pick up.
So, um, that window to get your vehicle into a place of safety has since closed because of that lightning threat. Um, heavy rain as well. If y'all don't mind zooming out big picture because I want to remind those in our eastern counties, these are the only two storms. That's why we're paying attention here. Looks like they just updated that warning.
>> I'm checking it right now. Looks like they're just going to continue it until 10:30 a.m.
>> Golf ball size hail radar indicated indicated 60 mph wind gust too in this.
>> Okay. Yeah, golf ball because it was initially for half-dollar size hail. So, golf ball size hail possible out of that Bernet storm, severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 uh this morning and then we've got that nasty storm uh out towards Gillespie. So, uh Austin metro, it is possible with these storms moving almost due east that we see these two storms impact that I35 corridor here later in the morning. So, maybe about 11:00 a.m. noon, Tom. And if you were with me this morning, right, the computers had a really hard time with today's setup because we had that cap.
We still have that cold front moving through. And honestly, these storms are trying to beat out that front because behind the front, which is now sitting in the Hill Country, is cooler and drier air, which would kill these storms.
>> We have some video of hail in if you want to see it.
>> Yes. Give me 10 seconds to show this storm in Gillespie County so you get have an idea of when it's going to be approaching you. record at 10 this morning. Willow City about 10:04. Uh Ryold School at 10:11. Uh we also have it looks like Horseshoe Bay 10:29.
What's that camera look like y'all?
Anything?
>> That Horseshoe Bay camera. Horseshoe Bay at 10:29 um this morning. So, and and these storms are moving fast. So, I would almost subtract a few minutes um from these times that I'm showing you.
Um so, that's that Gillespie County storm. Bernick County further towards the north. Leby County moving east at about 45 to 50 miles hour.
>> We also have some hail footage that Freddy put together. So this is a hail viewer submitted photo. Let's see if we can pull this up here for you.
>> Thank you. So this was that Oh yeah, you can see it bouncing on the ground here.
Hail in Lano. Tough to tell the size of that, but obviously significant enough to the eyeball which would cause um some damage. So hopefully y'all are okay. Uh at this point, LO, I know it's tempting to go outside and make sure you didn't see any damage. Let's hold that thought right now because you still have lightning in the area and you still have this strong thunderstorm down to the south. That thing looks so mean. This Gillespie County storm. Um the Horseshoe Bay camera um and the Marble Falls camera. Anything to show me there?
>> Marble Falls being pulled up now. Not seeing any sort of impressive shelf clouds, but I'm sure that Marble Falls camera is going to start buzzing in the next 15 minutes.
>> Yeah, let's let's give uh everybody a home peek to see what that looks like here.
>> Switchers pulled up. This is the Marble Falls River City Grill camera. I'm going to also turn it a little bit to the left. You can see the lake, although it's not too much to capture for now.
Again, that this will look very different in the coming few minutes.
>> Uh, switch it over to uh >> we're going to pop out and try to switch into the horseshoe bay camera.
>> This one is showing some drops on the lens. Let's zoom back out again and I'll show you the dark clouds as we're seeing some of these uh storms starting to get a little bit closer.
>> Thank you, gentlemen. Okay. And and how about that high camera um that that we've got in uh >> coveted sellers high camera pulled up.
>> O yeah, those clouds look dark. Thank you. This will be one to watch with that Gillespie County storm moving towards the east because obviously if it does, Blanco County would be next. Spin me around just a teensy bit more.
>> We can also the Oasis restaurant like Travis came. Some really dark clouds here.
>> Yeah, that looks scary. No doubt about it.
um damaging winds and large hail would be the primary concerns here, but obviously heavy rain too um coming down in a short amount of time could certainly cause some ponding out there as well. So, thank you gentlemen. Go ahead and bring me back to radar here.
We'll watch those two storms that Bernett County storm. We'll we'll start here in Bernett. Just zooming all the way down to the city of Bernett proper if you will. And yep, some heavy rain here now on the eastern side of the city. 29 going out of the city towards Bertrram. A lot of lightning in the mix.
And pop on that hail core, if you will, to see if this storm >> hail cores is up.
>> Okay. Yeah. Yeah, that thing is holding itself, too. Yeah.
Perfect. We've got meteorologist Tommy House, meteorologist Freddy Veila, uh, in with us. Also, meteorologist Hannah Guard, who you will meet at the end of the month. This is her first week. So, welcome to Central Texas, Hannah. Hey, welcome to Central Texas. This is May doing May things. So, golf ball size hill. Um, and Tommy made a good point earlier. Sometimes the radar can overdo hail size, but what radar has been showing us this morning and what we have seen from your guys' reports have matched pretty quickly. Uh Tom, any updates on how nothing.
>> Yeah, well Hannah just said radar indicated some stronger wind gusts on this Gillespie County storm. Looks like this thing is taking more of a straight line feature right along Highway 16.
Velocity product does give a good idea that this we're talking at least 50 60 mile per hour winds here. uh radar product for velocity. Uh still is it 60 mile per hour winds from this? Okay, so 60 mile per hour. So >> yeah, that that severe thunderstorm warning was to account for both that hail threat in addition to the damaging wind threat. And again, 60 miles per hour that that is a strong winds sometimes with straight line winds and and tornado uh damage. It's hard to even figure out what it was initially because it looks the same when it starts blowing stuff around. really the only difference between straight line wind damage and tornado damage is tornadoes throw it around in a circle and straight line winds you're going to see the damage all in one direction. So very strong winds um moving through Gillespie County >> radar indicated 56 miles per hour. So we're getting up to 60 and that's moving right toward Highway 16, >> right? And and so this would be the New Bron Falls radar here. So again shooting a little higher up, but that that is a pretty good wind that we've got working through northern Glesby County. anything from our friends over at the weather service?
>> Yep. Currently, the severe storm, they're going to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for western Williamson County.
>> Western Williamson >> in uh the next 15 minutes.
>> Okay, we saw that coming too, right?
Just to extend the warning a little further downstream. So, Florence, Andice, Liberty Hill, you all need to make sure that your vehicle is in a place of safety and you will be inside by the time this storm reaches you, which give or take oatmeal at 10:04.
That's back out in Bertrram or uh Bernett County, I should say, Bertrram in Bernett County 10:05. But as we get you into Williamson County, Florence at 10:17, Andy at 10:20, Gerald at 10:35, and then we've got Georgetown Municipal at about 10:41 here, Sarinata 2, 10:40.
So, yeah, you've got about 30 to 45 minutes to make sure everything outside uh is taken care of. Again, two storms.
That's it, y'all. But they are mean and they are nasty. Moving towards the east, almost due east. Now, earlier this morning, they had a northerly component on it, but they've turned due east on us and they're going to continue to work through Bernett County here out towards Lake Victor here, too. You have some heavy rain and lightning. News radar scan shows Bertrram, you are about to get hit with some pretty significant hail here. Uh warning was for golf ball size, but quarter size is when it starts to leave a mark. And if there's a lot of smaller hail, too, um that can also cause damage. We learned that last week with that that severe thunderstorm that rolled through Travis County. So, Bertrram, heads up. You've got hail coming in from the west and it's going to pass directly on top of you. So, we need to be off the roads uh to form to market 243. Highway 29 is also going to be not only a tough spot to be in with the hail threat, but also the heavy rain dropping visibility. Um and we want to stay out of those low water crossings, the creeks and the streams away from the lowlying areas. We know that how that goes. So, um big hail, big hail, no doubt about it. If you don't mind, let's go down to that Gillespie County storm again.
>> You want the hail product for that or reflectivity?
>> Oh, yeah. Look at that. Because now it's starting to pull us up. Now, we got not only the the potential for the 50 to 60 mile perph winds coming out of this storm, but also this storm is strengthening to golf ball size hail according to radar. Um, we need to be inside Eert away from windows. If y'all don't mind pulling up the severe thunderstorm warning uh protocol because the warning means it's happening, right?
Things are happening. We need to be inside. We need to be taking those actions now. staying inside and away from windows. Away from windows because we need to be away from glass from any wind driven debris which is obviously concerned with that Gillespie County storm. Now we also want to avoid electrical appliances too. We do have the greater severe thunderstorm watch in place for most of the area until uh Say that one more time. You >> need a breath again.
>> Oh yeah, I can. Yeah, I'll give you here. Um give me about one more minute uh Tommy and then I'll I'll switch gears with you. And typically y'all, you know, we don't necessarily go um minute by minute with severe thunderstorm warnings, but we just want to stay here for a few minutes longer because this forecast changed in a very big way from what I was telling you this morning.
We're we are now casting now, if you will. were trying to keep up with the storms that were not there earlier this morning and all of a sudden starting to blow up and and and sometimes these storms can kind of do their own thing and that's what's happening right now as no computer zero showed it at this time in the Hill Country. So we're keeping up with mother nature who is throwing some hailers at us in Gillespie County in addition to Bernett County storms moving off towards the east. I'm going to hand things off to meteorologist Tommy House if you want to pop in here for a second so I can uh uh check an update here with our friends from the weather service.
>> Yeah, thank you Kristen. Let's get back to this reflectivity here. Looks like we have an update for this severe thunderstorm warning that is just to the east of Bernett and we're also watching storm number two down toward Gillespie County. This one looks to be gaining some strength as it's positioned right along the front. So, it's tapping into a lot of storm energy. Let's get first zoomed to the Bernett County storm because I am noticing a few different things with this storm. The radar estimated hail still looks impressive, but if you look at the supercell composite, if you look at the lightning strikes, notice that we're seeing less lightning strikes in the past 15 minutes. This indicates to me that this storm is moving over more of that stable air behind the front. So, Williamson County, as Freddy mentioned, that could get extended, the severe thunderstorm warning, but certainly a significant improvement here in terms of the storm strength and composure. Regardless, Bertram is right on that edge of that hail core. If we can pull up the hail core here, I want to show you the strength and size of this storm in terms of hail. I would say maybe P size just north of Bertram itself. Radar indicated Esme is switching you over.
>> Are we going on the KX Plus room?
>> No, I mean if you want, but you can just stay here.
>> All right.
>> All right. Hey guys, thanks. We're back on KXAM Plus. We've been over the airwaves here on KXN. Uh huge special thanks. We have four meteorologists here that are keeping our eye on these storms. Storm number one up in Bernett County. That's been the storm moving through Lano, Bernett, Bertrram. But there seems to be a weakening trend here. So this seems like a good significant improvement. Just look at the last hour. This has gone from hundreds of lightning strikes in Lano County all the way toward few lightning strikes and that hail significantly going down. So National Weather Service was suggesting that a warning gets extended into Williamson. I don't think they're going to go ahead with that. If they do, we'll let you know. But that is not looking like it's holding the same characteristics as a severe thunderstorm. Now, Gillespie County, that's a different story. Right along Highway 16, Eert, this is a powerful storm that is producing some large hail radar estimated >> right over Eert. This is some large hail. And so the the the radar estimated again sometimes overdoes it, but National Weather Service says, "Hey, at least an inch and a half." And this is hen sized right along Highway 16. So Echert Ranch Road 1323 just to the east of Ranch Road 965.
So these storms are certainly very strong. This hail signature certainly looks concerning to me because of its not only straight line winds in this storm, but also up to hen egg size radar detected. Back to this reflectivity loop here to show you it's moving at about east northeast. National Weather Service has this tagged at I'm thinking 40 miles hour, 45 miles hour. So, let's time this out for you here. Uh coming up in the next 30 to 40 minutes or so, Sandy by 10:24, Willow Creek 10:05, Cave Creek School 10:06.
Lightning count got 259 lightning strikes in this storm that is in Gillespie County. So Blanco County, although you're not in the severe thunderstorm, there are lightning strikes in Blanco County right now.
>> They're not going to extend the Bernett County one right now. They're just your weather statement, right? Um, but they're still concerned about the one in Gillespie.
>> This thing is intense. And the winds too are something that stand out to me.
We're seeing radar detected. And again, this is a new Bron Falls, so the position of the beam capturing these winds may not be what's happening at the surface. But if I remove real quick the warning text and we just pull up the raw data, velocity indicating anywhere from 50 to 60 miles hour. And that certainly falls in the severe thunderstorm window to say the least. And with that hail core and hail signature, I wouldn't be surprised if at the surface there's at least severe thunderstorm stuff.
Anything digitally we need to add, Freddy? I know there were reports and and reported at kxane.com footage of this.
>> So we have a couple of pictures Hey guys, sorry apologies for that. As we're trying to pull some footage for you that we can show some of this hail, Freddy Veil put this together. Freddy, thank you so much. This is out in Mason and what we're looking at is see some of those hailstones that are hitting the ground and bouncing up. So, it's tough to measure obviously from a distance, but this definitely looks at least severe thunderstorm warning hail, right?
I would say at least quarter inch, maybe up to half dollar inch. And we're actually getting some footage, too. It looks like there's a massive hailstone in that person's hand. You see that? I mean, we'll have to pull it up eventually. That looks like to me at least an inch and a half. We're maybe creeping on two inches for some of the hail that's being sent in. Yeah, that one was sent by looks like the Fredericksburg Times, so we can't run that one, but uh it's a really cool interesting picture to show.
>> All right, Cington Sellers here. Hi, Cumberton Sellers camera that is positioned out in the Hill Country. And yeah, Chris, if you heard an audible oof, it's because of the new radar scan that comes in for hail. So, let's take a look at this thing. Oh my goodness.
>> Yeah, >> the winds are bad, too.
>> Willow City, you got the winds there.
Uh, >> all sorts of scatter information.
>> Grapefruit. Grapefruit. Checking texts here with meteorologist Nick Bannon.
Gillespie storm may carry Okay. May carry some sort of um tornatic signature depending on the wind.
>> Crazy on this.
>> Yeah. Okay. So, this thing could definitely produce some sort of rotation as there is some decent windshare which is when the wind changes direction with height which indicates that right on the outer edge of this storm. You don't not not necessar you don't only have the 50 to 60 mile per hour winds, but there also may be some rotation where there's a different wind at the surface versus a loft and that is what could potentially make this a tornatic storm. For now, not tornatic, but we need to be watching this because it has a very concerning hail signature.
So, this is just east of I16.
Wow. This is radar indicated.
I believe it's up to grapefruit sized by the radar and most likely a bit overdone, but at least two inch hail I would say is falling just east of I6 north of Ranch Road 1323.
The storm is a beast as it's in Gillespie County, moving east into Blanco County.
>> They're estimating baseballsized hail in northern Gillespie.
>> Estimating baseballsized hail in this storm. So, >> an update to the warning coming to allow for WA.
>> Okay. So, we're going to have an update to this warning, too. Is as this extends into Blanco County, the wording and significance of this severe thunderstorm warning, I I guarantee you >> it's a considerable damage tag.
>> Considerable damage tag. All right. So, I mean, with the radar estimated hail here and the way it's looking with these winds that in eastern Klespie County there, I'm sure there will be some storm damage to this because I'm thinking of windshields >> and some dead branches and this storm is definitely going to be holding its composure. We're getting we're in KX.
Plus, here's what's going to happen across the next few minutes if you're watching. When I when I give the when I give the when I give the signal, meteorologist Kristen Curry will be hopping back on the airwaves. I'll be switching to radar for her. We got meteorologist Freddy Veila and we have our new meteorologist Hannah and she's going to be here. Hey, welcome. Uh we're watching this. We got formats here and we're ready to to take control of this storm for you and help guide you all as this is moving into Gillespie County.
All right, meteorologist Chrisa Curry, she's walking behind me. She's ready to go hit the airwaves. I'm going to hop off cake saying plus. I'll be on the max for her and we'll be right back with some of this.
size hail in your area right now. So, >> okay, thank you. Sorry about that. Some technical glitches here. Uh we have a very strong storm, a dangerous storm capable of very large hail in northeastern Gillespie County. Radar can depict baseball to grapefruit size hail in this storm. So here's Eert. We've got Fredericksburg down to the south and west. So this is not a risk for Fredericksburg. This is going to be a risk for my friends in northwestern Blanco County. So here is the county line between Gillespie and Blanco County. This is out towards Echert and Willow City. A very dangerous storm with significant hail possible. I mean 2 in to 3 in in diameter here. Uh and this is going to continue. Weather Service just let us know they're going to uh issue a downstream severe thunderstorm warning.
Not even just for significant hail, but also for some damaging winds. Hannah, you got something for me?
>> The continuation of that current warning is for baseball size.
>> Baseball size hail. Yes. Baseball size hail is what we're going to be looking at this warning for. It flashes and then it's going to u update for the significant threat. So baseball size hail that would actually alert you via your wireless emergency alert as that is considerable uh damage possible out of baseballiz hail. So uh the phone alerts will go off that that similar sound to the amber alert. Sometimes if you know just a regular severe thunderstorm warning for quarter size hail, you wouldn't get that alert. But this storm is so dangerous and it's got the potential to bring hail that could bring considerable damage that the weather service went ahead and updated that warning. So, it would hit everybody's uh cell phone who's got those notifications turned on, which is why it's so important. Round Mountain, this storm is expected to be in your area at 10:35.
So, if you know anyone who maybe drives Highway 281 between Johnson City uh in and Marble Falls, give them a call and tell them, "Hey, you've got a nasty storm coming in from the west that you need to be off the roadways here."
Severe thunderstorm warning. If we can maybe bring up those u up those precautions, we got to stay inside.
That's the biggest thing. Stay inside and away from windows. Uh that's mainly for wind driven debris. And we know that we've got some serious winds with this storm. We want to avoid electrical appliances as well. Uh as sometimes with so much electricity and so much lightning in the area, sometimes those pipes that come up above ground could get struck and and conduct that electricity in there. So thank you. We can pull that down. Let's take this full here because this storm is just about to cross over that Gillespie County line and into Blanco County. So Sandy, heads up. You need to be making sure that everything outside is taken care of, vehicle protected, pets inside. We need to make sure that our friends in Round Mountain know. So, if you've got any friends and family in Round Mountain, give them a call. Make sure they know that this storm is coming in hot from the west. Here's an updated timeline as this storm. What was that? That storm um uh speed, Tommy, for >> 40 miles hour east.
>> 40 miles hour. Sandy at 10:27, Brown Mountain at 10:30, uh Morrison Ranch at 10:35, and Cypress Mill at 10:46. These storms have held together nicely despite everything working against them as that cold front continues to move in. So, we might get a little bit of a wind shift as that front sinks south into the Gillespie County.
So, although the tornado threat is low, it is not zero. I'm still most concerned about hail. Go ahead and put that hill core back on there for me as that. That really kind of took us for a second thinking, okay, we were initially golf ball size, maybe ping-pong ball size, and then all of a sudden it flared up and radar was saying to us that, hey, there could be some baseball to grapefruit size hailstones in that storm. So, right along Ranch Road 1323 here, we've got a significant warning extended further downstream into Blanco in parts of southern Bernick County.
>> Okay. Yep. This is that little sliver of Bernett. Uh let uh go ahead and read that warning to me, Tommy.
>> Yeah, National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning. Uh this is going moving east at 35 mph.
Hazard baseballized hail in 60 m per hour wind gust. This is radar indicated, but this is a destructive storm for rural northern Blanco County. So destructive storm, that's the wording by the National Weather Service.
>> Absolutely. And that warning in place until 11:15. It does look like the worst of the hail is going to stay north of Johnston City, but Sandy, if you got friends in Sandy, you need to give them a call because that is a nasty hail storm that's about to move in. Uh, interesting to note, 35 miles per hour, so these storms are slowing down a little bit. We'll have to watch for the risk of maybe some um localized flooding underneath some of those heavier showers. Thank you, Tommy, for the storm track. Sandy at 10:26 here. So, you have less than 10 minutes until this storm is on top of you. Round Mountain at 10:39.
>> Yeah. Can we pull up a weather camera?
Hannah did a great job of pulling up the Coington Sellers camera. Let's see if we can pull up that weather camera.
>> Looks like there's a decent cloud there on the >> Perfect. Okay, >> that's looking up northward.
>> Yeah, looking at the storm. So, the Coington sellers camera. So, again, Coington Sellers High, that's in in Blanco County. So, yeah, we want to make sure that storm is or that camera I should say is pointed towards the west looking at this storm. Meteorologist Hannah Gar joining us. This is what day three of the cakes again. So, we appreciate her help behind the scenes.
Freddy Veila, Tommy House, my guys keeping me updated as well. So, look at this storm right here. Thank you guys in the back too for showing me that that weather camera. Um, this hail court right now straddling Gillespie and Blanco County. So, Blanco County heads up. You've got a very strong hail storm moving in. Take me up briefly to Bernett County. Um Tommy because we also had that severe thunderstorm warning for Bernard County and this storm's right >> significantly improved swallowed up >> right right about to move into western Williamson County. The good news though is we're starting to see some of that cooler drier air come in behind that front and so uh that's cutting off the strength of this storm. Barely a hail signature so uh that severe thunderstorm warning is probably going to be allowed to expire. So this is the one concern right now. A very significant hail storm with potential of baseballsized hail moving out of Gillespie County and into western Blanco County. There is a possibility if this storm holds together and can stay ahead of that cold front, stay ahead of the cooler and drier air that it can maybe reach Hayes County.
That's something we'll watch. But I mean, if there's any sort of silver lining to this situation is there is a lot of rural area out here. Now, we know that people have land out here, maybe some property, um some barns and and and and that sort of thing. So, we're going to continue to stay on top of this as that that hail core is not is not great.
Um big picture-wise, thunderstorms, two of them. Severe thunderstorm warnings, two of them. Um cooler air coming in.
So, this storm once that front catches up, can you actually show me, tell me, where the front is right now?
>> Yes, you can see it on the reflectivity.
This is just south of Walnut Creek Park.
You can see the line here. So, it's moving toward the Austin area. So, here's that loop to show you right through Taylor. It's actually right on the edge of that storm, if not passing right through it. I'm going to try to draw this here with with the with the stencil we have. And I would place this front pretty much right on where that storm is, which is indicating to me that maybe this storm will weaken in the next 15 to 30 minutes. But for now, it's still tapping on a lot of that storm energy.
>> Yeah, this would be the leading edge here. So the wind shift is here, but it's going to take a little while for the cooler, drier air to catch up as well. So that's why we're most concerned about it. So again, that hail core that we're watching moving into northwestern Blanco County, which for perspective, see there it goes again, starting to get stronger.
>> Yeah, looks like it's getting stronger.
I'm going to put a 30 uh 30-minute loop on this just to show where it's moved from Eert slowly weakening, but now it's getting a little bit more steam moving into parts of Blanco.
>> Absolutely. Thank you, Tommy. So Austin is back up here towards the north and east. This storm is moving almost due east here. So yes, there's potential maybe Hayes County, southern Travis County as well if it can hold its strength. But like I said, it's got to beat that cold front or else it's going to die with the cooler, drier air coming in. But um nasty hail signature. Go ahead and see what radar tells you. What is radar showing that storm um excuse me, the the hail hail product. What is the radar thinking? Hail size.
>> Oh yeah. So let's get the hail size product for you. It looks like it's about right now billard ball. So pool ball.
>> Absolutely. So bigger than 2 in, right?
Anything quarter size or bigger, it starts to leave a mark when it hits and anything and everything that it hits outside. So uh this is going to be a concern against today inside. If if have we gotten any more um pictures because thank you all so much out of Bannon Dam.
You you guys did send in some significant hail photos and it really helps us tell the weather story as to just how strong that storm was up in Bernett County. Thank you. Uh Freddy, this is or Tommy, this is the uh hail that fell earlier this morning with that Bernett County storm that has since weakened, but obviously bigger than quarter size hail.
>> We got another one coming up, too. This is also from meteorologist Freddy Veil putting this together.
>> Okay, thank you Freddy. O yeah, look, you can even see some some of those bigger hailstones within um within that hail. So Oh, this was in Mason. So >> this was a little bit early. We're going to try to pull some other latest footage, too. Freddy Freddy's Freddy's working on it.
>> I'm working on one from uh Burn It, it looks like. So, I'll have that one for you in just a couple minutes.
>> Okay, I lost my graphic.
>> We'll get back to the reflectivity for you here.
>> Okay, thank you. Um, so less of a concern with the storm moving into western Williamson uh county. A whole lot of concern for this storm here moving east through northwestern Blanco County about to approach Sandy and about to approach Round Mountain. It does look like there is a teeny little sliver here of southern Bernie County. Show me what that marble falls camera looks like y'all. Yeah, I'll see if we can pull that up for you here.
>> Might be pretty yucky.
>> Um, spin it to the south. I mean, this is the wonderful thing about having these weather cameras all over central Texas is it does give us a good idea uh of what's of what's falling. Go ahead and pull that.
>> Not too crazy here.
>> I could Let me take a zoom out. We got other cameras to show you south. It looks like y'all were looking west. Um, you want >> north in the rain?
>> Say that one more time.
>> It's a little too far north in the rain to see the center of it. Well, Coington Sellers camera here moving to the right.
>> There we go.
Um, go ahead and pull that full y'all um in in the back just so I can see. I don't know if if my eyeballs are or are fuzzy or if that just screen is so small. Okay. Yeah, look at the movement on the clouds too.
>> Take another big look. We have Santaita Ranch. There's that weakening storm. Got some gusty winds there on the trees. But this is again not really the concern, but a look at one of the storms.
>> Yeah. No, absolutely. Um and and show me, Tommy, there was one covered in rain right below it. What is this one right below it?
>> Yeah. So, this is our horseshoe bay resort.
>> Okay. Yeah, that makes sense, too. Look at the the wind and the trees there. Um so, yeah, heavy rain is certainly a possibility. We did see over an inch of rain. Freddy, if you want to maybe look at what our hydrome totals so far to see if there's any trouble spots with that rainfall. Um while we get back to radar, thank you guys for doing that. That obviously gives us a better look and and you guys at home are the eyes and ears, too. If you're seeing anything that I'm not seeing or I'm not saying, please let us know. Shoot us an email [email protected] or if you've got photos or videos, if you go to cakes.com and click on reported or contact us, that'll be an easy way that we can show your photos and videos right here on air. So, storm of most concern still out there in northwestern Blanco County.
Again, Austin up here to the north and east. This is south and west south and west of Austin proper.
>> Okay, I do have some numbers here. Uh Mason it looks like has gotten over an inch and a quarter. Uh just this is since midnight by the way. Um Fredericksburg has gotten threequarters of an inch. Uh Frederick's northern Fredericksburg over 3/4 of an inch. Uh it looks like the most rain that we received was Mason in Lano. Um Mason did get almost an inch and a half of rainfall. Uh yeah, since midnight it looks like. And really when I go down the last three hours, it's the same.
Everything's been within the past three hours.
>> Okay. Yeah. You know, that's good to know. I mentioned it and I asked because we did initially have a flood advisory up for Mason County for some heavy rain.
Um but it does look like this is less of a flooding concern, more of a hail concern. Obviously lightning, too. Don't underestimate that. But Sandy, it is now um your time to be inside. Let this storm pass. It's moving at 35 miles per hour. So, it's not going to be an all day deal, but you do need to make sure you're at least inside for the next 30 minutes while this storm passes. Tommy, >> yeah, there's something I want to quickly point out. And when you look at the size of this supercell and its composure, you get a good idea of how strong it is based off the lightning strikes. And it it's clear to me in the past hour that the the size of the storm is has shrunken, but the hail core is still intact. And that's the concerning part because this thing was stretched about 50 plus miles in terms of lightning and heavy rain. But it looks like at this time that hail course still is stubborn moving right towards Sandy.
The reflectivity also indicating to me that this is causing some damaging hail.
Although I will say in the past we'll load up 30 minutes or so. It's gone from detected grapefruit size to a little bit of a a shrunken golf ball if not maybe up to a tennis ball. Regardless Sandy Round Mountain 281, this is going to be damaging. Yeah, absolutely. You know, maybe maybe it is in a in a phase where it is weakening. Um, but we've seen these storms pulse all morning long.
They flare up, they get strong. We see a big pulse of lightning and we see the hail uh size get bigger and then they weaken and they get bigger again and they weaken. What's working in our favor is that cold front. That coldront that's going to bring cooler, drier air, and because these storms have moved through the Hill Country already, it's going to zap the atmosphere. So, the more we get out this morning in the way of storms and the faster that coldront moves in here, the less of a concern we have this afternoon into this evening. But the reason I'm I'm stressing this maybe a little bit more than just, you know, I normally would with a severe thunderstorm is one, this was capable of baseball size hail. And two, the forecast really changed on us. I mean, that's what happens here in Central Texas in the springtime. The forecast can change like that. We did not see storms overnight into the early morning hours this morning, which allowed for these storms to get into that really rich, humid, warm air mass and just fire off. So, we're still going to be keeping an eye on this on this hail storm. It is 10:25. What's up?
>> I know that we've got a newscast coming up at 11:00 a.m. on KXN. I'm going to leave you here on KXA News until I see this storm one, strengthen again, or two, they issue a new warning. I'm going to leave you here, but we're going to be over on Cake Sand Plus until the storm threat is over. So, if you are in Blanco County specifically, I really want you to make sure you're hanging with me on Kakean Plus. That's that free streaming app. Uh Roku, all all the all the the um the places Fire Stick that you can get that. Make sure you join us over there.
I'm going to leave you here on Cakes and CW Austin. We'll go over on on Cakes and Plus until, like I said, this storm gives me reason to jump back on. If not, I will see you again on KCN News at 11:00 a.m.
watching here on KX and Plus. It's our free streaming app. Uh just confirming is Digital aware that the D2 transfer is coming?
>> Yeah, they're doing it right now. But also, I know a lot of people have been checking in for the severe thunderstorm warnings. Uh they just went ahead and cancelled the burn one.
>> That's fine. Thank you so much, Freddy, for alerting us on that. Uh something I want to point out is it looks like in the most recent scan, the second Kristen just jumped off air, we're now getting another radar indicated look of what's happening just north of Sandy. And this is shaping up to be some tremendously large hail. Uh, I believe this is radar detected grapefruit sized hail. I mean, that is just unbelievable. That doesn't mean grapefruit hail's falling at the surface, but it is still something we need to be talking about. There were reports uh meteorologist Hannah Guard said, "Hey, there is baseball sized hail with damage." She pulled that up from the Slack chat. So, we have damage confirmation from this storm. So, we need to be treating this as if this is happening right now to the surface. And it's regardless still large hail is falling toward 281 and that's what I'm most concerned about. So Round Mountain 281, we need to be preparing for some large hail because this will be arriving in the next 15 minutes just north of Sandy. This is confirmed baseball-sized hail which produced damage to vehicles.
This severe thunderstorm warning is continuing at least for the next 15 to 30 minutes if not longer. And if it's keeping its same trajectory moving east across Blanco County, could this move toward western Travis and Hayes? That's going to be the the question. And we're going to be on top of it here in KXM. We got four meteorologists in the weather center. We have reports with the National Weather Service. Rainfall amounts or over the airwaves. We're on free streaming apps. And a good reminder for our free kxn first warning weather app. Our meteorologist Freddy Vea said that they're cancelling this National Weather Service severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Bernett County. So, thank you Freddy for that.
It may also be good to let Kev know he's stormchasing right now that there's no need to really hit that storm anymore if he's riding up that highway. Uh be a good reminder to that and instead position maybe get down 35 toward Austin and see maybe go west toward Bave with where this is heading. Uh also, if we could pull up in the next few minutes, I'll take a look at the Bave Auto Mallal camera because that is going to be in the next 30 minutes on track to be capturing this storm. So Sandy 1323, it's the ranch road through Sandy right toward Round Mountain. Ranch Road 962 west. We have numerous lightning strikes detected here. Matter of fact, in just the 10 minutes, new scan just came in 186. So let's see how it looks on the hail core. All right, so not as strong as it just was. This was the previous scan and so slight improvement, but as Christian said, these storms, they'll weaken, they'll strengthen, they'll weaken, they'll strengthen if you're in the warning, right? respecting that polygon and staying indoors when thunder roars is is the best advice we can give.
Although I will say Johnson City, you're all set. Johnson City, you're in the clear. High Texas, you're in the clear.
Places that I'm watching, Round Mountain, Spicewood, and then any part of eastern there, Bernard County, that's where things are going to be looking maybe for a turn for for the worst.
>> Mic down just a bit.
>> We're getting some audio. Yeah, this is loud.
>> The microphone 6 on this computer always overd does the audio. Thank you. Thank you, Freddy. This happens sometimes with this computer software.
>> We now have >> five meteorologists as we're on KXA.
Plus, our chief meteorologist, Nick Bannon, is here. So, we're we're super uh we're super prepped for this storm as it's tracking toward Round Mountain in 281. So, right now, we're we're watching this storm as it's positioned north and east of Sandy. This is a decent hail core. radar detected, but still to say the least, this is confirmed with baseball damage to vehicles as meteorologist Hannah Guard pointed out that this is this is confirmed damage in several parts of Gillespie County. So, we still need to be treating this hail core as if it's keeping that baseball-sized hail moving toward Round Mountain, moving toward 281. Can we just check make sure that the quality of the the microphone is still doing pretty well, Freddy? seems to be hopefully if it's a little loud hopefully we're fixing that. Besides that, the Bernick County storm has now officially ceased.
Couple of lightning strikes, some streamer showers in Austin and we're watching for this storm that is moving through Blanco. Reflectivity was showing that the outer edge of that front, the northerly winds are now south of the storm. Hopefully that can help choke this out. We'll put a 1 hour loop on this to show you that the storm itself looks to be at least the the the reflectivity core seems to be shrinking.
And to me, looking at the lightning strikes, it's always a good indicator of the strength. There seems to be the storm shrinkening, but there is still that pocket of hail that is damaging.
So, until we get a signature that this thing is is really winding down, and look, another scan right toward Round Mountain. Good.
>> It's a good trajectory. Now it's golf ball.
>> Doesn't mean golf ball size hail is falling, >> but it does mean that there still is some large hail in this horn stom. Any updates you want to give, Freddy?
>> Um, yeah. I'm just getting we're getting a bunch of photos and videos from um Oh, they are going to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for Blanco. I don't know if that's already been issued yet or not. Looks like >> it's that's it right now >> for downstream. It looks like >> So, are you saying they're going to extend it or they're going to wait?
Looks like my guess is they're going to have to wait just because the kale cord to the edge of the warning still 10 miles. What do they say?
>> The Yeah, downstream warning is also coming for Blanco. So, I'm assuming they're going to extend like >> we'll have to we'll have to wait and see. It does look like >> Oh, never mind.
>> It does.
>> There we go. Uh let's see.
Main threats continue to be destructive hail and 60 mph winds in addition to cloud to ground lightning.
>> Cypress Mill and Spicewood. Thank you, Freddy. and highway 281 are highway 281 around mountain is where honestly I think that's where this at least radar detected pocket of hail will continue to show large hail amounts just toward Round Mountain itself from the main radar detected hail to Round Mountain you got about three miles there so this is right on the doorstep of 281 extending east severe thunderstorm warning as meteorologist Freddy VA pointed out continues until 11:15 team.
Uh, so this was the wording. This is a destructive storm for rural northern Blanco County. Now, let's point out the good. The good here is that this storm is is is shrinking in terms of coverage and and the lightning strike number is going down. The biggest reason for that is the front has cleared through. So the front is pushed through Austin. The front is pushed through northern Bernett and that that essentially is is squeezing and shrinking the storm slowly choking it. The problem is is how far east will this storm go before it becomes like that Bernardet storm. And that's been the question that that we've been trying to figure out. It does look like though there are some cloud to ground lightning strikes that are several miles ahead of Ram Mountain. So, Cypress Mill and Spicewood u lightning strikes being detected 10 miles away from the storm itself. So, it doesn't matter if it's raining. If you hear thunder, let's head indoors because you can be still away from the heavy rain and the storm itself and there can still be a lightning strike being detected.
So, this severe thunderstorm warning continuing. We have uh again back up toward Bernett Briggs. If we can already let Kev know, he had a one of our reporters, Kevin Bascar.
Okay, good. We let him know. Um because that that storm you're chasing some showers up there, Kev. Uh but 281, that's not the case. And thank you for a lot of viewers who have been sending in their reportit kxane.com. Meteorologist Kristen Curry will be posting on our social medias. Uh meteorologist Freddy Veila, and actually looks like now we have an update to this warning. So let me go ahead and read you that update. 35 mile per hour movement.
This is moving around east northeast.
still with the hazard of baseball size hail and 60 m perph wind gusts. Here are the impacts here and this is the wording the NWS is saying this is people and animals outdoors will be severely injured and what they mean by that is if you're in that large hail if there is baseballized hail and if you're outside not a good look there expect shattered windows and this is again for that hail core extensive damage to roofs siding and vehicles including Round Mountain Johnson City Sandy Pinal's fall state park spicewood cypress mill and 281. And so if I could pull up the hail core here, this is okay. So good improvements. This is actually a very good improvement just in the 30 minute loop here. Look, I mean this came in with grapefruit detected hail 2 in plus and now it's down to about an inch, inch and a half. And typically whatever's happening radar estimated, I like to go a size down. So maybe at most golf ball size hail hitting 281 now. Thank goodness that a lot of that rural area is where that largest hail fell. So Round Mountain just south now we're seeing an improvement on the hail core looking more like up to golf ball sized just south of Round Mountain. In this severe thunderstorm warning though the hazard remains baseball sized but there is a clear indication to me that within the past hour this storm is beginning to shrink. So here's the 1 hour loop moving into portions of northern Blanco. Good indicator too is the lightning count.
Lightning count from Gillespie to Round Mountain to Cypress Mill. We've gone from several hundred lightning strikes.
Still 315. So I'm not discounting.
There's still 315 lightning strikes.
This thing is a beast still. But as this moves towards Cypress Mill and Spicewood. Could there be an additional improvement to that hail? That's what we'll have to see. We also have meteorologist Freddy Vila who's working on some new graphics with the storm reports and footage. And we have meteorologist Hannah Guard here who's doing an additional look with the National Weather Service using her expertise in radar detection. And that's pulling up some weather cameras, too.
So, Lake Travis is showing uh some dark clouds there on the horizon. So, thank you, Hannah, for that. And it just looks like to me that we're we're seeing the storm continue to wind down, but winding down doesn't mean that we're out of the clear yet, right? It means that there still is some damage that could be on the way.
>> Do we have any new content that we can throw on the KX Plus stream?
>> Did it right now?
>> So, we're going to go quiet for a second.
>> And welcome back to KXAM Plus, our free streaming app, as we're looking at some new content here. Thank you, Freddy, for throwing this together. This is sent by Pam in Willow City. Pam, thank you. And I like to always look at what's happening with the hailstones at the ground because I'm trying to get an eye indicator. The eye test is telling me that's around golf ball size. Certainly severe. There are also reports, as Hannah brought to my attention, from the Slack chat. National Weather Service says that there were baseball-sized hail with damage to cars, windshields.
Certainly not a good look there for windshield damage. So, thank you, Pam, for submitting this to our weather cameras. Our Horseshoe Bay resort camera. Now, we have a storm closing in.
Some drops on the lens.
That storm should be moving.
>> Yeah. So, it looks like it's right on the doorstep there, right? And >> it might just be in the rain up there, unfortunately.
>> Definitely. Regardless, some slick spots, reduced visibility, and some strong storms. just keeps kicking out to that mason. But here's that storm again.
1-hour loop is showing that I think east of 87 Eert into western Blanco County.
And I'm going to circle this area. I think this spot is where we need to watch for the most extensive hail damage because that's where we saw footage. And we'll have to see if we can get footage of this. But someone sent to the National Weather Service Slack chat their hand. It's hard to measure hand.
Rulers are best, but it was consuming their palm. It almost looked like a tennis ball to me.
>> Well, they put in a storm report of baseball size hail.
>> So, at least we have that baseball size hill, right?
>> Near Bell Mountain Winery.
>> Okay. Lot of >> They must have measured it if they put in, >> right?
>> Great point. So, definitely in portions of Gillespie there were baseball sized hill least.
>> New photo is ready for you.
>> We got a new photo. I'm about to hop off. We'll be right back.
Hey, we're back here on KXA and Plus.
I'm meteorologist Tommy House. We got all five of us here as we're watching this destructive hail in parts of Gillespie. It looks like there's a little bit of hiccups with the image loading. Let's try this one more time.
There we go. All right, Sarah Foster sending this in. Thank you, Sarah. And that hail can certainly pack a punch to your vehicles, roofs, and >> okay, we have we do have an update from the National Weather Service. Severe thunderstorm over in northern Blanco is now north of the cold front. There has been a gradual weakening of the storm in the last 10 15 minutes. Large hail still detected around golf ball. And >> that's what Tommy said.
>> That's we got copy copyrighting that phrase.
>> Look at that.
>> I'm stealing that from Ed Petrresi.
That's what Ed said. Anyway, Blanco County, a lot of lightning strikes and this hail core is weakened. It's entering more of a stable air and there has been no wording correct from NWS that this is getting extended.
>> No, as of now, no.
>> And I don't want to speak things into existence, but with this trend, it's looking like the I35 corridor should be better than how we looked an hour ago.
And that's a fair assessment to say with just the way this thing has been looking. Obviously, could we see some rain and some lightning and even a severe thunderstorm? Yes. But as this is moving through northern Blanco, I'm feeling pretty confident in just the past hour that this thing is winding down and and just the one hour the 1 hour hail size is speaking for itself.
Right.
>> Um you know, we haven't seen it really really usually we see it kind of do this kind of up and down type of thing where it strengthens, weakens, strengthens, weakens as it's gone past, but uh over the past what 20 minutes we haven't seen that increase one more time. So that's that's always a good sign. And Hannah just pointed this out, but I'm I'm not just scrolling. I got I got push notifications here of damage reports from the NWS bots on X. And I want to read through some of these reports for you that these happened a few minutes ago. Uh Lo County, there were 1.25 in hail. That was a public report. Uh we also saw reports of baseball size hail.
Hannah mentioned that. That's 2.75 in. A new update to the NWS warning now. Looks like it's shrinking. And spicewood. This is a very good case for spicewood compared to where we were Cypress Mill.
This cut just south of Round Mountain in Cypress Mill. Uh, and this >> keep it till 11:15.
>> Okay. And it's 10:42. And I would be shocked if they even keep it toward them till 11:15, but that Thank you, Freddy.
That's a good point that this is still uh continuing. I wonder if it's going to get extended though. More reports I want to bring to your attention. Again, that was the biggest 2.75. In emergency management picked up well over an inch.
a lot of emergency management offices picked up over that. Willow City and is Willow City that's that's the place that I believe Hannah said, right? Willow City is by >> was one of them. So Willow City and Gillespie in Eert I if anyone is watching from Early You got friends and family there.
shoot him a text and say, "Hey, can you send a video footage to report it.com or go to our website kakes.comreport it?" And you can fill out a form there and send us some of the storm footage because the viewers, you guys are the people on the ground. You are our stormchasers. So safely, if you can safely take a image or if you did, I think reported at ken.com is a great tool that we can we can work hand inand on that. It does look like too the cypress mill hail is significantly gone down. And I mean, look, this storm isn't really looking too gnarly in terms of reflectivity.
>> You're good to jump off for now so we can start prepping for the midday.
>> All right, I'm going to go hop off, take a spoonful of honey, drink some water, and uh we will try to be back here with Freddy Veila, who's going to be commanding the 11 to1 on KX with Will Depri and Avery Travis. All right, that's uh everything I have to say y'all. Thank you for watching, and we'll have updates here on KXM and a great reminder for our free KXM First Warning Weather app as we have daily storm chances. So, this could be happening again in the next few days. Hopefully not, but we'll we'll It's huge. There's someone holding a hail little ball of hail. I guess that's what you call them. In their hands. And it does. It looks a little bigger than >> uh let me see. It is not Sarah Foster.
It's Pam Dozenberry. But I can pull up Sarah Foster.
>> Pam Doenberry.
Yeah, I think Sarah Foster also had some. But that was that that piece of tail from Sarah Foster was from from Fricksburg.
But yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, I found it.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm looking. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
>> Looking at the the hill from Pam. Yeah, that is some pretty big hill. Same with Sarah's as well.
>> Okay. I'm going to show Sarah's cuz I just got it for our viewers so they can take a look at what we're talking about.
Two baseballsized hills in one hand.
That's crazy.
>> Yeah. Yeah, that is crazy. I would not I mean, imagine if that hits your windshield. Geez, I can't imagine. I hopefully there hasn't been too much damage out there, but that that doesn't look too good. I was listening to our meteorologist cuz our meteorologist um our meteor I was going to say Kevin Kristen Freddy Nick is here in in the news studio and also Freddy and Tommy are here and they were talking about grapefruit size hail in some area out of our viewing area and I'm glad that's not here.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Grapefruit I mean I don't know what do you think is bigger grapefruit or baseball? I'm I'm trying to think of what's bigger as big.
>> I think grapefruit baseballs are are pretty small unless you're talking soft.
>> Yeah, I guess that that's I guess that's true. But I mean they're they're both still big for hail. I mean I I think that anyone anyone who's standing outside I mean I I don't know if you'll get a concussion from it, but I don't I don't think I think it might hurt if you're outside a little bit. I think you may get a concussion if you're getting hit by too many of them.
>> Which is why if there is hail, you should stay indoors. Am I right, Esme?
>> Exactly. And keep your cars covered cuz you don't want that problem to happen.
Um, so what is it looking like? We're still looking at outside of the vehicle that you the area that you're in. Where are y'all in right now?
>> Yeah. Uh, we are on Frank. We're on Highway 290, right? Yeah.
>> 291 West.
>> 291 West. We're on Highway 291 West, uh, Hayes County, if I'm not mistaken. So, yeah, I mean, it's uh the path to get to to that area, it seems that it's it's pretty uh it's pretty uh pretty pretty fine at the moment. It doesn't seem like anything is too crazy. Um, but overall, um, it's pretty dry out here.
>> Um, I'm going to pull up. Can you see the stream or No, you can't see the stream.
I can't see the stream because I'm not on on the call, but uh you can describe to me what you're seeing >> video.
Let me see >> which one. I do have the megaphone TV UGC thing pulled up so I can I can >> So this one is another PAM one, but it's a video of all the hail falling.
>> Okay, let me see.
>> This is the one where >> What was it sent about 30 minutes ago?
It seems >> uh it was sent Jack our social media Jack Jacqueline sent it to us at around 10:38 in our UGC group chat.
>> Yeah. Uh yeah. Okay. I see that. Oh, I see this hail.
>> So that's where you're headed.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Um looking forward to it. I mean as as long Yeah. I'm I'm listening to the video right now. I mean, you can hear how that hail is is um is hitting the roof. It's pretty loud, right? As I don't know if you can hear the audio from your end, but >> I cut the audio out, but I'm I'm sure it's pretty loud.
>> Yeah. Um so, we were talking about concussions. Yeah. No, I think that might give me a concussion.
>> Yeah. You might want to put a helmet when you get there.
>> Yeah. But, uh I mean I when I get there, I'm not I mean, you might want to check with the meteorologist on this one. I am curious if you're able to answer this for me, Esme. like is is do we know if the hail is is still active in that area or has it moved out?
>> Um from when I would what I was looking at it seemed to have moved um I would say norththeast of it. That's what I was looking at in their graphics but they are actually live right now. So if anyone wants to listen into the meteorologists tracking the storm. They are also live on our app. We have a a form of where you can watch two different live streams at one time on our KXM plus app. So you can click through and right now they are live on one of our channels on the KXM plus app as well as our website and our Facebook page. Um and it doesn't seem like they are updating anything at this moment.
They just have some weather graphics pulled up but um still a severe thunderstorm watch in all of the areas, specifically Williamson County right now. Um but yeah, that's those are all the updates I can give you on my end.
Yeah. I mean, like it's when it comes to severe weather. I mean, uh I'm not I I was not here that day, but I mean, do you remember the the the severe weather that hit Williamson County? I think about two weeks ago on a T.
>> Two weeks ago. Yeah. And all the flooding that was up in Georgetown.
>> Yeah. Yeah. I wasn't here for that day, so you might have to tell more about me.
It just happened. I mean, my beat is Williamson County, but they I wasn't here. Everything was going down. So, like, wow. That that was a bit unfortunate for me not to be there and at work. But uh but yeah, I mean like it it Williamson County, the the Hill Country, we are in flash flood alley.
It's this the central Texas is in is in flash flood alley. So like when it comes to severe weather as we have have shown you throughout throughout the years, throughout the month and throughout the time here on KX, it uh things can escalate quite quickly, right, Esme?
>> I think we dropped your video. Is your camera still working?
>> Let's see. Can you hear me now? I can hear you, but I just see a black >> See me now.
>> I just see a black screen.
>> Oh no.
Let's see. I'm trying to fix it right now.
>> Now we lost his audio.
>> This is the name of the game of live streaming. You never know what's going to happen, but you also get to see things that are happening live. And watching Kevin drive to this location has been fun. Kevin, I can hear you again, but I still don't see you.
>> You don't see me? Oh, no. What's going on? Okay, let's see. Um, trying to troubleshoot if I pressed anything wrong here. Right now, I have on the program view the uh the windshield. You don't see anything on the side. Interesting.
Hey, just the black screen on your end.
>> Yeah, it's just a black screen on my end, but do you see anything in your program?
>> I do see something in the program transmit uh window. Let me see.
