Japan's Maglev train achieves speeds over 600 km/h by using powerful magnets to levitate the train approximately 10mm above the track, eliminating wheel-rail friction and enabling near-frictionless travel; the train is propelled by a moving magnetic field along the track, with wheels retracting at full speed, though the technology's high infrastructure costs limit widespread adoption.

Why Japan’s Maglev Train Floats | #maglev #trains #engineeringAjouté :
Japan built a train so fast it broke the world's speed record at 603 km/h. But the craziest part, it barely touches the track at all. No wheels grinding on rails, no metal on metal contact. This train literally floats. Normal trains become unstable at extreme speeds.
Wheels vibrate, tracks shake, friction fights everything. So engineers asked a wild question, what if the train never touched the rails? That's Maglev.
Powerful magnets lift the train about 10 mm above the track removing almost all friction. Then the track itself becomes the engine. A moving magnetic field pulls the train forward like a giant invisible conveyor belt. At full speed the wheels retract completely. From that moment on the train is basically flying.
The result, one of the fastest vehicles on Earth. So why don't we use Maglev everywhere? Because every line needs entirely new infrastructure built with millimeter precision. It works incredibly well, it's just insanely expensive. And that's why the world's fastest train barely touches the tracks at all. Full explanation on channel.
