Earth Day Magnet Fishing On The Detroit River

[00:00:10]Welcome back everyone. Thank you for joining me again this week. This week I am at the John Dingle Park in Ecorse, Michigan. I am here to help the Friends of the Detroit River with their yearly cleanup. Uh, we will be meeting with several other magnet fishers today. Now, in the past, gotten a lot of interesting stuff out of this park, spent a lot of time here. Uh, close to 40 firearms, an antique slot machine, uh, seltzer bottle, uh, my my first sword came out of this park. So, uh, let's hope we have a great day today and uh, find some good stuff.

[00:00:59]A lot of rocks in there. Holy cow. All right. So, uh, change of plans. I just got an email, uh, letting me know that the cleanup event for today was canceled due to the rain.

[00:01:19]Just every single throw is just a massive rocks here.

[00:01:26]I'm going to try to get the magnet out a little bit further.

[00:01:46]We got piece of metal, a whip-it, a nut, piece of metal.

[00:02:07]I don't know what the heck that was. We got a battery, hand warmer, and looks like it up screw.

[00:02:30]Oh, it actually says AirTag on it.

[00:02:33]So, it's an Apple AirTag.

[00:02:36]I wonder if they're waterproof. I wonder if somebody's signal just came back uh, or if it came out of something that was stolen and ditched here.

[00:02:44]All right, it's got some weight, but I mean, every throw has just been a pile of rocks so far.

[00:03:19]There's a design on the handle, but I can't see what it is.

[00:04:28]All right, so even though the cleanup event is uh, been canceled, I have met up with a couple people here. I have Steve right here.

[00:04:36]And as you guys all know, George way down there. So, say hi to Steve and George for me. All right, I've been pulling this one in slowly for a while now.

[00:06:23]Kind of. So, I'm guessing that that's out of a old revolver.

[00:06:29]You can't really see any detail cuz it's so muddy.

[00:06:39]Looks like just bottle caps and some welding rod.

[00:06:45]See if we picked up I feel stuff down there. I'm going to put the bigger magnet down there.

[00:06:54]I switched over to the the cube so I could get out there a little further.

[00:07:03]Got lock nut, lighter, whip-it, bunch of other stuff. We're going to put the bigger magnet right there.

[00:07:15]All right, I'm on something bigger.

[00:07:20]Ah, oh, you know what? I think it was underneath a rock.

[00:07:24]I'm going to try that spot again, but uh, it felt like the rock rolled over and I lost whatever it was. That That happens. Sometimes a rock can feel like uh, like you got something even when you don't. Okay, feels like I'm in a load of fishing line or something here.

[00:07:43]Saw that oil coming up.

[00:07:45]Now, a lot of people say that uh, the oil is when you find a motorcycle or something with oil in it, but just about all of the vegetation and everything that's underneath something as it decomposes uh, will form an oil oil like that that will float up once you you're moving stuff. Let's see if we got anything here.

[00:10:14]That's interesting. Never got a tobacco can before. I've gotten lots of uh Is something inside?

[00:12:39]We got a bolt. We got uh whatever that used to be. Oh, it's a clamp, okay.

[00:12:46]We got a bottle cap, fishing lures parts of a fishing reel. Yeah, all kinds of stuff here.

[00:12:59]So, George and Steve had had enough of the the weather, well, the slight drizzle. So, uh now it's just me.

[00:13:23]All right, we got an AirPod. Got an AirTag today and an AirPod.

[00:13:41]It's been a while since I found something. Got a uh one of them little uh uh lures. I forget what they're called.

[00:14:04]I don't think they're worth keeping. All right, so I'm going to get call it a day. Uh had a good time. Didn't find anything crazy, didn't find anything super interesting, but uh we got a lot of a lot of junk out of the waterways.

[00:14:14]There's so many throws I didn't even show you guys uh cuz it was just bottle caps and chunks of metal and stuff. Uh I estimate probably close to 300 lb of junk pulled out of the water. But like I said, most of it's, you know, really small pieces of metal just uh that flake off the walls and stuff. Thank you guys for joining me. I hope to see you again next week and take it easy.
