Wilson masterfully injects harmonic tension into standard worship structures, proving that a single altered chord can transform a predictable progression into a sophisticated jazz statement. It is a brilliant demonstration of how technical precision can elevate the emotional depth of simple melodies.

Play your 5-1-4 like this instead🤩💕👌Added:
Hi bro.
The entire church leadership, the choir, the congregation, uh the music In fact, everybody, the whole church, they told me something about you and I think that um I need to talk to you. They said that anytime you are playing a song like um Way Maker, Miracle [singing and music] Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the Darkness, my God, [music] >> [singing] >> that is who you are. And you get to where you're going to another four. You normally play about two or three 5 1 4 progressions and uh sometimes you play this. They said you play this.
Um That is who you are.
>> [music] >> You do this.
Way Maker, [singing] Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light [singing and music] in the Darkness, my God, that is who you are. Sometimes you say you do this also.
>> [music] >> And in fact, they said that they are tired of this one. They are tired of this one. So, please they came to me and then they spoke for some time and after some time I was like, "Ah, I need to talk to my brother. I need to you know spice my brother's chords up.
So, today I'm going to give you a 5 1 4 progression you can play instead of these ones. And trust me, it's going to change everything totally for you.
So, stay tuned and please, if you are new here, subscribe to my channel, share the link, comment. In fact, you have to give me some boost at the comment section, okay? Just boost my morale, okay?
Like it, share, invite other people to also subscribe and God is going to bless you, all right? So, let's get right into it. We're going to be in the key of G sharp or A flat. Okay?
And I'm going to use two chords, just two chords to spice up your 5 1 4 progressions, okay? And um the first one is just the In fact, both of them they are just the same chord but I I did a slight, you know, alteration somewhere there. And this is the chord.
Uh we are using the flat 9 13 chord, okay? Don't be scared.
Please, don't be scared. We are using the flat 9 13 chord and then the augmented 7 flat 9 chord.
Both of them we're going to use them to spice things up and these are the chords. Don't be scared as I said. You're just hearing the name so huge. If you don't know chord nomenclature, I'm going to put uh another video on this channel that's going to talk about chord nomenclature but I think you're going to understand this one. So, let's go.
This is G sharp.
Uh 1 2 3 4 5 [music] 6 7 back to 1.
Okay?
The first chord which is the flat 9 13 chord G sharp flat 9 13 chord, let's first of all play our 7.
1 2 3 4 [music and singing] 5 6 7 That's the the flat uh 6 or the um what do you call it? The dominant 7, okay?
Note and then you add your This is our 9.
Okay? But this is our uh flat 9. Okay?
And then this is our 13, all right?
Uh-huh.
So, we play [music] this when we add the third like this.
We have our flat 9 as A flat flat 9 13 chord, okay? Uh-huh. You can As you know, you can always, you know, uh invert your right hand voicing [music] so you can do this.
Okay? So, I chose this one.
All right? I chose this one.
Uh-huh.
>> [music] >> And we are going to apply this.
Okay? And then we edit it a bit or alter it a bit by moving this note, the 13 note, okay? And then we pick this one which is the augmented 7. Okay? Uh-huh.
If we play this alone, this is A flat augmented 7, okay? So, we have the flat 9 here. Uh-huh.
There's a [music] A flat uh flat 9 13 or A flat 13 flat 9 and then this is the A augmented 7 flat 9. So, this and this.
Some people are asking questions, "How are we going to use this to play a 5 1 4?" Wait for me.
This and this, get them first, then we move.
And this.
All right.
>> [music] >> Now we know. So, as you can see on my root note, we are having it on the 1, okay? So, it's going to be in the middle of the progression. We are doing a 5 1 4. Okay?
I'm going to give you songs. Then we do examples. So, when we get to the normal 5, you can play the flat 7. [music] Okay? Major flat 7 over our 5 as you do.
Okay? Uh-huh. But your 1 we are going to change it >> [music] >> and use these ones. Okay? So, we're going to do something like that then we go to the 4.
So, let's pick some examples. Let me put them in song so that you can get what I really mean. Um let's pick the same song I was singing.
Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, [music] >> [singing] >> Light in the Darkness, my God, that [music] is who you are.
See?
Ah.
So, let's go again.
That is who you are.
>> [music and singing] >> See?
Way Maker, [singing] Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the [singing] Darkness, >> [music] >> my God, that is who you are.
See?
So, the first one Uh-huh.
Okay? You know I hit this one so much.
As a pianist, you know what we we mean when we talk about touch, okay? You need to understand hard touch, soft touch, and medium touch, all right? This one is kind of a soft to medium touch when you're hitting that augmented note, okay? So, Way Maker, >> [singing and music] >> Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper, Light in the Darkness, my God, that [music] is [singing] who you are.
Ah. Then you go to your 4. So, 5 1 5 1 4.
All right. Then let's pick another song like um uh this song by Anita Wilson.
>> [music] >> Okay?
Um um more than anything, yes.
Then you go to I love you, Jesus. That's a 4.
So, most of the times most guys will play I love you, Jesus. [singing and music] I worship and adore [singing and music] you. 5 1 4. But we are now pushing this one we just learned over there. So, so we go I love [singing] you, Jesus.
I worship and Just want [singing and music] to tell you Lord, I love you.
>> [music] >> Lord, I love you.
anything.
See?
I love you, [singing and music] Jesus.
I worship and adore.
>> [singing] >> Just want Okay? Another song like um High and high and [singing] high.
>> [music] >> High and high and high.
And we lift >> [music] >> you >> [singing] >> high and high.
See?
>> [singing and music] >> Okay? So, that was a flat of 5 >> [music] >> 1 4.
So, we are moving this one there again.
So, and we >> [singing] >> lift you high and high and high.
High [singing] and high and high.
[music] So, you have to engineer it, make it fit your progression, okay? Whenever you find a 5 1 4, you put it there. So, I'm playing that one again. And we lift >> [singing] >> you [music] high and high.
>> [singing] >> High and high and high. Or you can play it fast like this.
>> [singing] [music] >> See.
>> [singing] >> You got it.
This is I think this is going to sound good in the ears of your congregation and they will stop worrying me. I'm tired. I'm tired of how you've been disturbing my sleep these days.
Your MD especially. I don't like that.
Let me give you another song.
>> [music and singing] >> Okay.
>> [singing and music] >> No that song.
>> [singing] >> You are [music] God. Normally you say you play this.
>> [singing] >> Okay. So I'm going to give you this one too how you use it.
>> [singing] [music] [singing] >> Yes.
>> [singing] [singing] >> Mhm.
>> [music and singing] [singing and music] [singing and music] [music] >> Okay.
>> [singing] [music] [singing] [singing and music] [music and singing] [singing] [singing] >> Okay.
All thrones. So why are you going to do four?
>> [singing] [singing and music] >> Sorry.
>> [music] [singing] >> This one will work better when maybe you are doing this song not in real time like the four four time but maybe somebody is doing some talk music kind of where you've been left alone with the singer, okay, or the the lead vocalist and you are trying to play some talk music, okay?
>> [singing] [singing] [music] >> Forgive my voice then.
>> [singing] [singing] [music] [singing and music] >> All right, so please from henceforth I don't want to hear anything.
Play your five one four like this instead. I'm done. I'm done. I'm done.
