This Sudoku TIES everything together : BremSter without BremSterAjouté :
Hi and welcome to Brimstone Puzzles, a channel where I showcase the fun that can be had in the world of variant Sudoku. And today I'm returning to two things. One is of course a puzzle by Full Deck and Missing a Few Cards, and the other one is because of the positive feedback I keep getting on this series.
I'm going to do another Brimstone without Brimstone, which is me solving a puzzle without explaining in detail my thinking. I will try and talk out loud about what is running through my head, but I'm not going to go back and explain the logic that I am using. I'm going to try and solve as if I was solving this recreationally. Um of course there'll be a link below to where you can try this puzzle for yourself, as well as to Full Deck and Missing a Few Cards' website where you can sign up for their newsletter. Um they publish all of their puzzles on the um website and their newsletter will also send them to you all by email. Um really good stuff. Um so yes, this series I don't understand why it's so popular, but people seem to enjoy it and I get a massive uh the the view counts are a little bit down, but I don't care about that. The feedback is incredibly positive. So um while these videos don't do as well as video solves, uh the feedback from people who do watch them is really high. So I I love it. Um people love it. I So I'm happy. Um so this is a Renban puzzle, so we'll quickly go through the rules and then we will try the puzzle at speed. Well, [snorts] whatever my speed is. So what do we have? We've got normal Sudoku rules apply, which means in every box, in every row, and in every column, the digits 1 to 9 must be placed without repetition. And then we've got Renban lines, which is digits along one of these Renban lines uh must form a set of non-repeating consecutive digits in any order. So using a small line as an example, if we put a one on this line, then the other digits would have to be oops, have to be two and three. They could be in any order in order to make a run of um consecutive digits, that would be fine. Um but if you took the digits off a line and sorted it, they would have to be a run of consecutive digits.
They're the rules of the puzzle. That's all we've got to go on and a bunch of given digits. I'm going to restart the puzzle to restart my timer. Let's give this a shot.
I think I'm pencil marking this one to death.
Um cuz these are 4 5 6 7 8 9. There's no seven there or there. There's no five there. There's no eight there or there.
Similarly, these are one through six.
There's no four there or there.
That's a lot less powerful.
There's a seven on one of those two Ooh, so that is 6 7 8 9.
>> [clears throat] >> There's no seven there. There's no eight there. That's a 6 9. So there's no 6 9 there. This is a 7 8. And the seven makes that the eight, that the seven, and there's no eight there. That's cool.
Um So Ooh, that That's going to be interesting. Oh, the nine makes that the six and that the nine.
Ah, right right right right right right.
These are 1 2 3 4, but three has to be in here and there's no three here.
Does that do anything with that?
Well, eight is in one of those two.
Nine is in one of those two.
No, no no, I've got nine. What am I talking about? Nine is in one of those three. I'm actually going to pencil mark that.
Um >> [sighs] >> Ah.
There's no five in either of those.
There's no six there.
There's no four there.
That's very strange. There's no six there.
There's no nine there or six there. This is 4 5 7.
There's no six there. There's no nine there. So five is in one of those two and there's no five there. This is 4 5 7, so there's no four there. This is 6 8 9.
Can I do more with that? There's no five there or there. So five is in one of those two and there's no five there.
Nine is in one of those two.
So five is in one of those two. That's not a five.
Uh can't quite see it.
Five is up in one of those two, but I can't see what to do with that either.
This is the same trick as down here, of course.
There's no five in either of those two.
There's no nine in either of those two.
There's no nine there. There's no seven there or in either of those two.
Could those be that low?
There's no eight there.
There's no four there.
It's [snorts] got to be something here.
It's possible I just over pencil marked.
There's no three here. There's no four here.
Four is in one of those.
>> [snorts] >> There's going to be a geometry trick here, which is really weird. There's some really cool geometry here, but I'm not quite clicking to it yet.
>> [snorts] >> This is a bit restricted.
1 2 4.
And it's not four.
That's weird. That's not four, so that's not nine.
These are a maximum of six.
The nine is on this.
There's no seven there.
There's no seven there. Seven is in one of those two. That's a 7 8 pair.
>> [snorts] >> And we know the order. Seven Oops.
Eight.
So there's no seven there.
No eight there.
In fact, eight is in one of those two.
That's the seven. That's the nine.
Which has done very [snorts] little.
Can I do the same trick?
Not quite.
No six there.
Mm.
There's some very weird geometry going on here.
If I don't put a one there, can I put a six here?
No, because then I'd need to put one and two on this line. There is no six on this because if the Yeah, if there's a six on this, so six is on this.
That's a two.
With six on this, that is 1 2 3. These are 4 5 6, which means that is three. And there's no three in those.
That's not a six.
That's not a two.
There's no two there. Two is in one of those, so that's not a two.
Mm, probably would have done better if I pencil marked differently.
That's not a four anymore.
That's 1 2 3 and that is 1 2 3.
How do I use that?
>> [snorts] >> That is a seven taking seven out of there.
So that's a seven.
So that's one or four. That's three is in one of those two.
So none of those can be three.
Five is in one of those two.
Yeah, I've definitely dropped the ball here.
Like I'm not sure how hard this was supposed to be, but I've not done well.
I have done atrociously.
I think I should be able to do more eliminations from here, but I'm not seeing them.
>> [snorts] >> I mean, this is true, but I don't like it.
That's not a nine.
Nine is in one of those.
That's not a four until interestingly enough.
>> [snorts] >> Oh, crikey.
Given digits.
Five is under now, so that's not the five.
Eight is in one of those two.
Put eight in one of those two.
For some reason this line is bugging me.
That's not a four anymore.
That's not a four anymore. That's not a four anymore. That's a one two.
So this is three four.
No three.
No four. No four.
So four is in one of those two, but without one two, there's no one two in any of those. This is three five four.
No four four.
Five is in one of those two. Five looks up making that nine, which makes that eight, which makes that five.
The nine looks down saying no nine.
That's nine.
Five and four takes four out of there.
That's one two six. That's three. No three.
Three in one of those two.
Five I've already got in this with a one two six. So this is one two six.
There's no eight here, so that's a six nine. That's the eight.
The nine makes that the six. This is a one two. This is a one two. So that's a one two three. There's no one two here.
The six looks down making that the five.
That's not the five.
The six looks down saying no six there.
Six is in one of those two.
Something will break this open, but I haven't got it yet. Four says no four there.
That's a one two three. The three is in there. That's not the three. Not the three. I could have got that by Sudoku.
>> [snorts] >> But that's one two three, so that's the six. That's the four. So that's the three.
That's not the six. Six is in one of those two.
The one two looks down making that the six. That's not the six. That's the six.
Something's going to break these one twos open.
Apart from my insanity. The six looks up making that the nine. I could have used that six instead. What are these? One six.
The one two three makes that the six.
That the one.
That's not the eight.
Two six nine.
There's no six there.
There's no six there. That's the six.
This is a two nine meaning that's one two. Two one. One.
Two says no two. So two.
No two.
These There's no five there. That's the five. And these are one four eight.
Four makes that the one. That's a four eight. Four means eight and four. I don't know why I'm explaining cuz it's mostly for me. Eight.
One and two, which I can do. That is the nine.
That's the eight.
So that's nine.
Two nine.
Five.
Two four.
The one means three two one.
Two one. Three one. What a puzzle.
That was quite tricky.
But a lot of fun.
So at the end, um, for people who were wondering how I was pencil marking these, um, because of the three here, I couldn't put three on this line. So I couldn't put a one or a two on the line without needing a three. So these all had to be four through nine. Similarly here, this three sees all of those and that's a six along line. So I can't put one two or three on it, which means this had to be four through nine. Um, same here. With the seven here, this had to be one through six. With the seven here, this had to be one through six. Five here means this either had to be all above five or or below five. And the two sevens put a seven on the line, so this had to all be above. I had the same here. Five means this had to all be a below or above. And the two threes put a three on it, so these were all below.
The biggest trick was probably here.
Once I got the nine locked into here, this was nine eight seven. And with this being a one or a two, the question was, could I put a six down here? This would have been six five four because of the nine eight seven.
And the six five four would have made these one two three. And I would have had a duplication of that digit. So the six had to go on the line. As soon as the six went on the line, the line was six down to two. So this had to be the two. And the one couldn't go on the line anymore cuz there was a six five four on the line.
Um, I definitely poss- I don't know that over pencil marking was my problem or not. I'm really not sure, but that was a lot of fun.
Thank you everyone for watching. Hope you enjoyed the puzzle. And as always, good luck with your solving.
