Vignola brilliantly simplifies complex harmonic transitions into a single pivotal note, showing that true mastery lies in structural clarity. This lesson effectively demonstrates how foundational blues logic serves as the essential framework for sophisticated jazz improvisation.

Frank Vignola 2 Chord Jam - Bb7 Eb7 Soloing SegmentAdded:
All right, in the last two chord jam, we focused on the rhythm, the comping for the B flat 7 to E flat 7, which is the essence of the blues, the one chord [music] to the four chord, dominant to dominant.
All right, this jam, we're going to focus on soloing.
Okay, obviously the >> [music] >> pentatonic works great.
Okay, that's a good one we need to fool around with. Now, let's look at the main difference between the B flat 7 and the E flat 7th if we look at chord tones.
There's your B [music] flat.
Here's your E flat 7.
It's like B [music] flat major almost to B flat minor.
>> [music] >> All right, which is E flat 9, all right, the substitution.
>> [music] >> So, the D is really an important note because when you're on E flat, you don't want to be hitting that D. E flat 7 that is, dominant 7th because that's a D flat. [music] So, that's the main difference. So, you can essentially >> [music] [music] >> You see that?
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> So those two notes, very important.
You're going to hear me um when I play my solo, I am going to use that those two notes.
I'm going to target those two notes.
And I'm also going to be doing some pentatonic stuff, and then we'll switch back and forth.
You take some.
And here we go. It's going to be fun.
I'm really looking forward to this.
Okay, I'll do a few around.
>> [music] >> Those are your two main notes.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Go ahead.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> All right.
>> [clears throat] >> That's a lot of fun playing over those two changes and it's really like I said the one and the four dominants are really blues.
Just filled with essence of the blues.
And without the blues there's no jazz.
So it's important to uh you know, work on some ideas and understand that difference between the three and the flat three. Very important notes.
All right, enjoy. Any questions, please ask away.
