Heliospher EXPLAINED : The Edge of Our Solar System ☀️ #space #heliosphereAdded:
We don't just exist because our sun is a gravitational ball of nuclear fusion, but also because it's a protective sort of shield for the entire solar system.
[music] The sun is constantly pushing out a huge stream of charged particles traveling at millions of miles per hour.
This wind inflates a massive teardrop-shaped bubble around us called the heliosphere.
>> [music] >> As we move through the galaxy, it pushes back against galactic cosmic rays, these sort of >> [music] >> high-energy fragments of atoms from exploded stars. And the sun's magnetic field is carried by the solar wind, creating a sort of magnetic web that entangles and deflects up to 90% of this intense interstellar radiation before it even reaches Earth. Interstellar radiation is just a like a cosmic rain of subatomic particles, mostly protons, traveling [music] at nearly the speed of light.
And without the heliosphere to thin them out, this radiation would etch away our DNA and likely make life as we know it impossible across the universe around any [music] star.
