Nicks blog 28. Got my hands on two tidy snatches in one day. Things are looking up.Added:
We love buying vehicles, especially when they look like this. Yes, that is a private number UN03AAA.
Now, it's UK registered, but it's been in Ukraine for 2 years and we've just bought it back.
It couldn't stay in Ukraine because it wasn't registered out there. Some sort of problem. Now, what's special about this is the glass is not 27 mm, it's 40 mm and these frames have been remade deeper to take the bigger glass.
And it's beautifully sprayed. Very, very nice sort of matte, but very smooth paint.
And it's got all sorts of extra little bits, reversing cameras and stuff like that. About the clearest glass that I've ever seen in this Land Rover.
Obviously beautiful seats and a few bits I'm not quite sure what they are, but we'll get to the bottom of it.
The tires are particularly aggressive and they're all brand new.
And reversing camera down there, that's probably not a good idea if you're going to go off-road cuz I think that's going to go flying.
This has done a couple of thousand miles coming back, I think.
Spare bull bar.
I think it was involved in a little bit of a shunt. Oh, and the guy here had it had a air conditioning unit. This is one of those ones that didn't have the big air conditioning in the roof, so he had an aftermarket fitted and I think that was probably quite pricey. The rest of this stuff is just sort of spare parts just in case.
He had a new one of these as well.
This is the automatic lock.
Yeah, I'm not sure about the Union Jack on the back.
That might not be such a good idea.
It's got several sets of keys including a very big one with all sorts of bits on. I'm not really sure about that.
Lots of charging bits and pieces and a huge service history file of all the things that have been done to it while abroad really.
Yeah.
Makes boring reading unless you're an accountant.
Yeah, so we're slowly building up our stocks again. We completely sold out of snap land rovers and now I think we've got I think we've got three and another one literally on the way.
So we're slowly building up again but if they're all as good as that one, it would be very very pleasant.
Well, one of today's jobs is to sort out this old Bessie. Now, I sold this crikey, I don't know how many years ago.
It could be Well, it was well before COVID.
Yeah, well before COVID. So it could be 8 years, could be 10 years and it was a real nice petrol sipiter and then it had all the sights in which was rare. All the sights, all the gunners, it beautiful, beautiful. And it got gas and air blank firing on the main gun and the chain gun.
Um only thing is when I bought it, the bloke's bottles didn't belong to him. So I had to buy more bottles and the gauges and the cables and all this kind of stuff and rig it all up. And then we had a little play and oh my god, it was so loud. All me dogs went mad and didn't eat for 3 days and seriously, seriously loud. Ear protection with ear plugs in.
Good tracks, great road wheels but like I say, sat here for 8 years. So today, we are going to give it a birthday. See what it needs. I think he wants to do his daughter's prom in it in a few days time. Oh, that was that was cool as well. I did this special fitting I do where you can open this all the way up and then this bit here opens forward for tall people or big people. Normally do it for America.
First he needs to cut across there and put the hinges on and then cut the rest, then you put the edging on and then twiddly diddly diddly.
Um [snorts] yeah, it's a great mod. Very nice driving it with that open. You can see everything down below, right round your knees and things when you when you're wiggling the levers.
So, there you go. A beautiful vehicle sat for years. How long can you leave a petrol CVR(T) for the engine ceases?
That's what I'm really worried about.
Um this step was one of mine.
Um basically, on the Stormer, you have a very nice step on the front that folds up.
And and I fit them on a lot of CVR(T)s, just for big people who want to climb around without, you know, falling over and struggling.
It's the 432 wheel family over.
Uh we have got them all over the place now.
It's um kind of slowing down.
Another load there. Another load there.
Uh yeah.
Oh, that's a bit bent there. Don't know how that happened.
Um yeah, it's slowing down now with the stuff going to Ukraine, it's um I think it's over now.
Another load there.
Another load over there.
And that's not even the ones in the yard. They're everywhere.
Good stock for the future, I guess.
Wiggly. Wiggly wiggly. You give it a bit of a wiggle and I'll give it a bit of a wiggle and you might get lucky.
It's quite tight, isn't it?
Yes.
And uh maybe this year I can see a pair of ear uh yeah, the uh headset down there. Oh, what a shame. That's life. That's life.
Wiggly wiggly wiggly wiggly wiggly wiggly.
It's going up. Slowly it's going up.
Well, when I pull these levers, I can see bubbles going on down there. Now, that means the pipe and it's coming all the way back. So, the pipe has probably burst and it's firing brake fluid out through the water. So, uh this one, that's just seized solid.
I don't think that's moving anything up the front end. So basically it's going to be uh steering calipers.
Um no, probably be cylinders. Um they they feel okay. The brake pedal feels okay.
The front was okay.
>> It might just be that it needs cleaning out and That's moving.
Yeah, it might just be a cylinder. But the cylinder is uh down there. Can you turn the fan, sweetness? It's not moving just yet.
Did it move?
No, not yet. Okay.
Watch your fingers.
Oh, it's got me. Ah.
I remember the last day when I could pick that up in my jaws on the edge just grip it and just lift it and put it on the bonnet or something. Hopefully this is the big kiss of death. If this fan doesn't turn, it means plugs out, Coca-Cola down the bowls. Oh dear. Oh dear.
What do you reckon?
Now if this had been a diesel, it may have it may have stood for 10 years. I don't know. 8 years. I can't remember how long it was. Long while. It was well before um well before it seized, wasn't it?
And that was before Cody.
Yeah.
It certainly feels a bit tight. Oh dear.
Right. Well, first thing you need to do is put Coca-Cola down it or do we put um oil? I think Coca-Cola's the best.
Um I would personally go for a little bit of red ATF. ATF mixed with some diesel. Mhm.
Get it nice and thin.
Yeah.
Once you've done that, you can't go back to Coke.
No.
I don't think it's seized.
You think it's just stiff? Yeah, I can I can wobble it a bit. All right, battery's coming later?
I can get you some batteries. Okay.
Well, it's a bit some kind of water logged on the top of the cylinder. I've got an airline handy. I'm going to try and soak that water out with this cloth.
And then whip the plugs out, put something slippery down there, and then we'll tow it over to the workshop, and kind of start work on it.
I've had a little Finally got rid of this trailer.
Bed knobs and broomsticks. Now, this was this strange guy. He loved taking his wife dogging cuz she was ugly. So, what he did was he built a four-poster bed in this trailer, and he had this big bouncy mattress which was a leopard skin cover.
And then you could have a bash, but you had to wear a blindfold.
And it worked for him. Worked for her.
Worked for all of them. Okay-cokey. So, all begins.
Flop the water out.
Ah, look at that. He took the mud flaps off so as not to damage them. Good lad.
Good lad.
Good lad.
And then tanks a lot.
Tanks a lot.
Tank driving experiences.
Brake discs. Brake pads. How cool is that? Right, my job is now to whip them plugs out, fill it up with something slippery, and and then power wash everything over. I'll put the plugs back in.
In fact, I'll power wash my first.
Yeah, I'll power wash it first. All around the electrics.
Lots of old leaves.
Wow, look at that lot.
>> [panting] >> Uh, very nice job, Taylor. If you're going to slip off, let me know so I can >> Have me phone ready.
>> it earlier. I did slip Did you Oh, could have split the money with you.
Now, these nasty brown marks Have you been sitting on that?
Excuse you.
>> [laughter] >> Keep your pants on, please, for God's sake.
Let's see what's going on in here.
I've got close to doing a little bit of spraying on the old roller, but I haven't done it yet.
The Leyland DAF's coming on nicely.
I get to mention that the most beautiful snatch lander we've had in our lives did get recovered. It did come across some German and a Belgium and all that lot and it broke down in the UK. It made it across Germany.
During Germany they put some I'm not sure if it was a lift pump or an inject pump and I don't think they've done it correctly. I think that the um probably the power on off is is sticking and Ash is just about to get his probe out.
He's going to probe.
Normally he uses just a finger but today he's using a piece of electrical.
Ooh, what up? Nipple dick.
Nipple dick dick. And is the ignition on?
And if it goes beepy beep beep it's getting power.
Beepy beep beep sounds like power.
>> No, no that's the wrong >> That's an earth. That's an earth. That's an earth. Only got the earth.
>> Yes, ignition is on. Ah well, it's it's still on earth. Right, okay. Give us a second.
I'll pull the wire off.
Hold that. Hold that.
He thinks he's coming in my caravan with that bloody beard.
I might have a shave.
>> Believe it.
Okay. I know what I'm going to do.
Frank. You've [screaming] got no gas in it.
Are you turning?
Hang on. Hang on. We've got fuel coming out now.
So it could be damage on the pipe from the fuel tank to the filter and it's drawn a bit of air and we've run it through.
No, it's just just the sole of power the solenoid. Oh, the solenoid is is on power.
So power to the solenoid is non-existent. It could be a fuse, it could be a relay. It could be something to do with the ignition.
But either way we'll have you running.
If the apocalypse comes I'm having a white one with a union jack on it and uh UN number plates.
Bit of a sneaky trick. Love it though.
Love it.
Love it. Love it. Love it. And we've also got UN04AAA.
As a gift.
Can't ask for more than that, can you?
Yes, not as much.
Oh.
Bit sparky down there. Bit smoky. It also smells horrendous. Bit strange.
>> And there's a fault on top of my probe, so she's after backfilling.
Maybe I am held it too long.
Should have better hold that.
Uh so, we changed the fuse and it popped again, and that means it is a down here, down here in the depths of the motor, down here, this little thing here. See that little thing down there with a little silver bit?
That is the fuel injector pump stop solenoid.
And that is faulty.
So, we'll order one up straight away. In fact, we'll order six cuz it's a Land Rover, and we can keep the rest for spares. Chow pong. Chow pong. Chow pong.
Wrong hole. Wrong hole.
Never mind, it's here now.
It's here now.
It's here.
And the engine is rubbing on the back of that uh on the back of that snatch. We didn't install that That's a nice snatch, isn't it?
Everybody likes a neat and tidy snatch.
Nice looking spring in it, too.
Very nice looking.
A rigid raider. That is quite a big engine.
Bit rusty.
But say, there we go.
It may have to go up to Snatchy Shop.
Look, look how wide those trailer tires are. They wouldn't get stuck on the shingle. Oh, yes, they would.
They are not wide as all.
>> Not if you glue more rubber on the inside and outside.
>> Yeah. Yeah, or put bits of studding on there, weld them, and put two extra wheels on that that break off in about 3 minutes when you go across the shingle.
I wonder what this was.
I wonder what that was.
I don't know. I don't know.
Quite nice, but it's a shame it's been rubbing all the way, isn't it?
Yeah.
Yeah, there we go.
That is a very fast cordless charger.
Um when I say charger, I mean kind of air charger. I bet you can charge your phone off it as well. I want one of those. Could be very useful. What I like about Tuesdays is it's a good day to get vehicles delivered.
I don't know what we're doing with the rigid raider.
I just don't know with a 75 Suzuki on it, but I bet that goes pretty well.
And big wheels be quite good for seeing gold. Maybe maybe that's a snitchin' boat. I don't know. I don't know. Shame the engine was touching the snouts all the way.
And that's a bit scratchity scratchity, but that's life.
Yes, bit of polish that needs I think.
What?
He's ignoring us.
Slowly.
Here we go.
It's a beauty.
Lovely.
Being towed by the guy.
What do we think, Ashley?
It's a boat.
It goes on water.
We have so much fun with this on our pond for about half a second.
Um yeah, 5 minutes of flapping about and then another half second great fun again.
Mhm.
Hello, biscuit.
Hello, Tina.
