Jury convicts Timothy Kennedy in Trooper Maynard murder

[00:00:00]13 News starts with [music] breaking news. That breaking news is out of Mingo County. Good evening and thanks for joining us. I'm Amanda Barron.

[00:00:07]>> I'm Marilyn McAuliffe. Guilty on [music] multiple counts. That's the verdict in the trial of Timothy Kennedy, the man accused of killing a West Virginia state trooper.

[00:00:15]>> We have video of the verdict being read inside the courtroom. Listen in.

[00:00:19]As to count one, murder of Cory Maynard, we, the jury, unanimously agree and find the defendant guilty of murder in the first degree.

[00:00:31]Count two, first-degree robbery of Cory Maynard, we, the jury, unanimously agree and find the defendant guilty of first-degree robbery.

[00:00:43]Count three, disarming a law enforcement officer, Sergeant Maynard, we, the jury, unanimously agree and find the defendant guilty of disarming a law enforcement officer, Cory Maynard. Count four, attempted murder of the first degree, CK Johnson, we, the jury, unanimously agree and find the defendant guilty of attempted murder in the first degree.

[00:01:08]Count five, attempted murder of the first degree, Benjamin Baldwin, we, the jury, unanimously agree and find the defendant guilty of attempted murder in the first degree.

[00:01:21]All right, that's Cory Maynard right there. His wife and his um mom and sister all took the stand asking the the jury to give no mercy to Kennedy because he was given their son, their father, um their husband given no mercy.

[00:01:38]Um lots of tears and testimony as they continued that that talk. Uh the family was all in the front row, of course, thinking back to that day when Maynard was shot and killed by Kennedy that day, June 2nd, 2023. The courtroom had so many state troopers in there, it was overwhelming, probably about 40 state troopers. And Kennedy or I'm sorry, Maynor's family was right there in the front row. And before deliberation, of course, the prosecution and defense delivering their closing arguments. We'll keep you updated on the story throughout the evening. Certainly an emotional journey though for this family and more from the courtroom tonight as we move throughout our broadcast this evening.
