This video demonstrates a complete Renaissance faire makeup and costume preparation routine, including applying eyeshadow using a light-to-dark gradient technique with the Harry Potter palette, applying liquid latex prosthetic ears by painting the inside of the ears first and allowing it to dry slightly before attaching, and applying highlighter to the cheekbones and nose bridge. The creator emphasizes that less makeup is more comfortable for all-day wear, especially when feeling unwell, and shows how to create a half-up half-down hairstyle with a headband featuring small horns.

Ren Faire Makeup and Costume GRWMAdded:
a bit of a rush and clean off that camera.
Get you guys up over here the very best of my ability. There we go. Move my pillow out of the way. We not as per usual, but as is somewhat typical for me are in a massive rush today because I ended up having bathroom problems all morning. So, I'm drinking Vital Water and I have about an hour to get ready, but I want to be done way before that.
So, we're putting today's headband is my cute little horns I got off Amazon.
Going to throw these on.
I think I'm going to do my hair differently afterwards, but for now, I just need my hair out of my face anyways. So today's look is going to be pretty normal at first and then I want to try to add on some like bumps and ridges and all that sort of stuff to get like the scalier look. My nails are try, you know, I did my henna nails and they peeled at the top too early and I did not have time to fix them. So this is what we're working with, which I think is fine. And we're just going to kind of just get into this as fast as we can. I have to glue ears on. I have to put the bumps on. And I have to do my actual makeup. So, I have my case over here.
Some of the things that we're going to use today, my normal mascara, my normal lash curler. Let's see. We'll put them all back here for now. We have some lashes, which I'm debating if I'm going to wear them or not, but I have some lashes over here. We are going to need our normal black eyeliner, our normal blue highlighter, just stuff that I pretty much always use. I have my red lipstick. I just don't know if I'm going to do red or black today. We'll put it over here. We have just plain old black eyeliner.
And then we have our What else do I even have in here? I have a lot. Have my lash, not my lash curler, my sharpener, my glue, and I have this maroonish eyeliner as well. I'm just grabbing everything so I can work through this as fast as possible. I think for my actual makeup today, we have the Who is this? Jaclyn Hill. I have my normal shades. I'm probably going to stick with this. So, we'll put this one over here. Actually, no, we're not. We're going to use the Harry Potter palette today. I feel like these are a little bit closer to the colors that I'm wearing. It's hard to see. We're going to do this one for today. And I think that just about covers it. I might use some of the fake piercings. We'll put them over here.
I have my jewelry on. I wanted to wear a necklace today, but when you are when you have problems like I do, I was in the bathroom all morning. I don't want like anything extra on me. I do not feel 100%.
So, I'm keeping it light with just the earrings for jewelry today. I'm probably just going to keep the neck, no necklace. I'll put rings and bracelets on. So, for our palettes, we are going to start here. I'm going to do a very like typical me style makeup look. So, we're going to go in with our lighter shades first, our little pinks and browns. Probably darken it with the blacks afterwards. And then I have this like whitish highlighter. So, that's the plan.
And as per usual, I have all my shiny brushes. We're going to start with one of the fluffy ones. And I do not have my normal towel today. So, I'm literally wiping it off on my bed. So, clean makeup clean makeup brush. Starting with essentially lightest to darkest. So, we're going to go with this skin this skin toned color, then into pink, then into this darker brown, and then darker brown. So, I hope this is a good angle for you guys. We I always start with the skin like this exactly matches my skin tone, right? So, I immediately just put it all over the place as a little base for my makeup.
I also forgot to put sunblock on. So, before I continue, we're going to grab that and do that. But, I'll just put this on my eyes first.
Then again, same on this side.
And that is essentially just how I do my base makeup when I'm just putting on eyeshadow.
But I have to grab my sunscreen because I will be outside in the sun all day. I can show you my dress while I'm standing. It's very simple. Red. It's pew. Whatever. My sunscreen's in the closet.
The dress actually tightens in the back, but I've been in the bathroom so much I did not feel like tightening it up yet.
Sunscreen. I just used the Cave one cuz it's the plain one the dermatologist told me to use.
Had two big old dollops and I just kind of put it all over the place.
I will say from my last live stream to today, my skin is cleared up. I'm realizing I'm putting this right over the eyeshadow, but whatever. We'll redo it.
My skin has cleared up a whole bunch since last week. I usually break out in tandem with PMS symptoms, but whatever.
We're just going to make sure we get this all over the place. I'm actually going to grab a little tiny bit more.
Make sure when you're doing your sunscreen, two things. Get your ears and if you have any shaved parts of your head or if your head is fully shaved, put this on your head. When I used to shave my head and have like total baldness, I would get sunburned. so bad and just go all over my head. I would literally have like a tomato head, but I always make sure I do a little extra.
And then I do my sides just to make sure that all our bases are covered. Oh, and the neck, of course. I'll like full sunblock it up afterwards. But for now, just the face sunblock all over the place.
I have one little pimple patch here. I just threw the sunblock on over it.
We're ignoring that. Now, back to the makeup. We're going to do that step over again. Starting again with our super light shade that matches my skin tone.
Of course, if you were doing this, you just want to match it to yours. We are going to put that all over the place.
And I take it, when I say all over the place, I literally mean up to the brow bone all over your lid.
Since it matches your skin tone, it shouldn't look weird and it shouldn't look all cakey because you're literally just putting a base layer over top. And again, same thing on the other side.
And then we're going to do underneath as well. But I just wanted to get this on here first. I wonder if you can hear.
You probably can. I would have normally had the comments on, but I'm in too much of a rush and I get distracted. My family is going to like an airplane show today. Very different than where I'm going. So, usually when I wake up and live stream, it's dead silent because everybody sleeps in on a Saturday, but everybody is like out and about moving around.
So, now that I look kind of crazy because my eyes are whited out, we're going to go in with the next color.
And I always start really light. So, this like pink shade, we're going to take just below the brow bone. And that's going to be like our replacement lid.
I love this palette. It's one of the Harry Potter ones.
It just has such a good like variety of colors without having like the crazy highlighter ones that I would never use.
So, I think you can see what I'm doing.
I'm taking this pink and it's very subtle compared to what you probably expect. Like where this is going to go later, it will be much darker, but we just like to start off small. We take the pink pretty high up, but not all the way. So, last one.
And then a little bit underneath as well.
We just want to make sure that all of it is covered.
There we go. See how there's a very slight difference between the two? And we just keep building on that as we go here.
It's actually very glad. At first I had a more elaborate plan for the day, but when you get up, I'm sure everybody's experienced this. When you wake up and your first thought is, I have to be in the bathroom right the second. Plans tend to change a little bit, but I'm glad I had a really comfortable dress picked out for this year. At last year's Renfair, I had worn it was really cute.
It was more of like a Greeky like odyssey kind of thing.
And it was like a tight dress and a skirt and it was it was a lot. It was way uncomfortable. It looked pretty sick, but and I'm sure there's pictures posted somewhere, but I was happy to just have like a very classic typical like Renaissance dress.
So once your pink is on, again, we're just going to get progressively darker.
We're going to go in with this shade next.
And same thing, we're going to go slightly, ever so slightly lower than the last one.
So you want to grab your brush and do the same thing again. This is where you can finally start to see a lot of color pop up.
We're just going to slowly build it out.
Again, I'm going for like a very normal, quote unquote normal makeup look.
Natural is not the right word when you're putting a bunch of colors on, but it's definitely going to be pretty ner like regular.
We're just going to keep doing that. See how there's a much bigger difference this time? Think it's somehow all the way out here. So, obviously Renaissance Fair. I've been going for a few years now to the New Jersey one. I've been to the New York one. And every single time that I have gone in recent years, it has rained. I actually think for the past four years worth of going to Renaissance fairs, I have ended up stuck in the rain with an umbrella or a poncho or like hiding out in like one of the little stalls or like taverns.
And this is the first time in the New York, New Jersey area that there is not rain on Renaissance fair day. I am like totally ecstatic about this cuz I'm so used to having like either my makeup get messed up, my hair get messed up, my costume get messed up, like something always gets thrown off because I have to compensate for it raining. But not this time. This time it's supposed to be entirely normal. Now that I've said it out loud, it's probably going to end up like thunderstorming like randomly like a firm like Dr. Deep and Schmz's bit.
But I'm sure it'll be fine.
So color is now on.
Actually, I want to take it slightly higher up on this side.
There we go. Just making it mostly even.
And I'm going to go in now with that darkest shade here, this brown in the middle.
And this one's just going to go I'm going to use the mirror behind you guys for now.
Just going to put it into the corner, the crease area here. Outer corner.
I sound super tired. I actually I had one of those weird nights of sleep where it's like you wake up, your body thinks you have to wake up. It's like, oh, it's we have to go to work today. We need to get up and go to work. That was clearly not the case. It is a Saturday. But I could not stay asleep. Like I started waking up around like maybe 6:00 and then from 6:00 to 7:30 I just kept like waking up every 10 minutes. So eventually I just got up and it's been about 2 hours since then. And I just sound groggy and I definitely feel a little groggy, but it's not terrible.
When I'm doing these darker colors, I try to very slowly blend them out. Also, I apologize. You can hear my mom telling my sisters to leave the house, but I try to build these up slowly so I can buff them out more than just like throw them on in different spots. And I always just use my finger to blend everything afterwards, just cuz I find that it blends a little bit more under control if you just use your hand as opposed to the brush. And then you can slowly add in a little bit more.
I've kind of been saying this, especially in my like more cosplay oriented videos. The slower that you go and the more you just build it out rather than slap it all on at once, the better time you will have.
Oh, but that was a part of my original plan. I was going to go full purple body paint today, and I just could not do that, which is why we're back to like a very normal costume instead. All right, to finish this up, I'm just going to go in some black down here in the middle, and I'm just going to put it right into the very like crease part of the outer corner. I'm not going to buff it too high up. We are going to do eyeliner soon. We just want this thrown right in there.
So, I put in the description. I don't know if it like pops up. You guys, if you've been watching my videos know that I have been like a longtime hater of the telings in fifth edition Dn D, that sort of stuff. I've been a longtime hater and I'm trying to break out of that mindset.
I myself really despised the whole teling bard thing. And the last game that I played, I played an eloquence teling bard who was more of a pastor of life and death. So she was doing births, like deliveries. She was doing funeral services. She was like a grown like 40-year-old woman. This was like the antithesis of the stereotype that makes me hate teflings. So, I'm trying to break out of it, especially as an almost 10ear dungeon master at this point, to not have literal fantasy in-game hatred towards them.
But I next weekend actually starting my newest campaign, which is going to be posted on Dungeon Masters Guild if anybody is looking to purchase a new fulllength fifth edition campaign written entirely by me, almost 10 years of dungeon mastering experience. It has a lot of my house rules in there. It It's start to finish. I'm putting it on for I think a couple dollars, probably five or so dollars. All the maps and character sheets will be for free on my website. And then there's going to be a little feedback spot as well.
The hook of this campaign is that it starts out as um like you're finding a treasure. Your party thinks that they're going to be looking for this lost page, a religious artifact, and you find out very quickly that the entire country they're in is going to war.
And I've been in some campaigns in the past, many years ago when I actually got to play that um there were supposed to be war aspects to it. And this is just birth chapstick.
I find a lot of the time what happens is if you don't have a really strong setup for a country and for a group of party members to go into a wartime campaign, it will not work out. So my campaign is written specifically.
So from start to finish, you have everything blocked out. You have what each of like the moving governmental factors are doing. It's all written start to finish. So that's going to be going up on June 7th, I believe. not tomorrow, but the Sunday following.
It'll be a few dollars.
So, my eyeshadow is pretty much done here. I'm going to finish it off just using my finger with this sparkly shade up here.
And I'm just going to put this all on the inside.
And I'm going to kind of take it like from the inner corner, buff it out to about midway through the eye.
Just to give it that little bit of sparkle.
I think that looks nice.
Then I'm putting it slightly downwards.
Not fully in the waterline, but just in the front part of it. As you can see, it makes like a huge difference. And then we're going to do the same on the other side here.
I love this like shimmery shade. It's definitely an all-time favorite of mine.
It literally looks like water on the face.
See what I mean? It just looks wet. It's awesome.
Then again, same thing.
Ever so slightly put it into the waterline.
There we go.
And that should be it for eyeshadow.
I'm like trying to stay hydrated right now so I don't end up getting sick again.
Next is going to be normal eyeliner, which is just going to go directly into the waterline.
Try not to stab yourself when you do this stuff.
Honestly, I find that the pencil eyeliner is harder to stab yourself than it is with um a brush. I find way more often than not if I'm going to get eyeliner in my eye, it comes from like the liquid liner, little brush applicator.
And we're just doing that on both sides.
There we go. Very simple.
Let me clean up a little bit. Actually, let's just move this back here.
Debating on what I want to do cuz part of me when I don't feel good, I don't like having a ton of makeup on. That's why there's no foundation or anything today. Just on my eyes. Maybe instead of doing like a full like giant eyelash kind of thing, we'll just do a small wing and just curl my lashes, put mascara on, cuz I know with like 100% certainty I'm going to be miserable if I end up putting on lashes. So, we're going to throw those to the side and we're just going to go in with our normal eyeliner instead.
When I'm trying to get it really thin, I start as close to the inner corner as possible and just really slowly slowly.
Everything is slowly when I do my makeup.
Building it up and then doing a tiny little wing out here.
There we go.
And pull it in. Boom.
Nothing too dramatic today.
Perfect.
Just makes a very small difference that I think looks really good.
Same thing on the other side.
Again, we're going to keep it really close. I just put that directly into my eyebrow. That is crazy that I didn't just mess that up.
Very small.
Keep it close. If you mess up like I just did, use your finger to wipe it down.
And then same thing over here.
Actually, it's always harder to do it on the other side.
Going to try and make these as even as possible.
That looks decent enough for now and put it together.
This would have been much more exciting today if I did not wake up feeling terrible, but I figured it'd be better to do something than it would be to do nothing.
There we go.
All right, nothing crazy. And it's definitely a hundred times more comfortable than it would have been. So, I don't think I'm going to mess with it anymore. Normally, you guys know I do like a huge inner wing, huge outer ring, and like it's just too much for there.
Going with my other Harry Potter palette. I just need this for the brown, the shade right here, just for my eyebrows.
And I take this really, really tiny little angle brush.
quickly just dip it in and fill my brows in.
And I use this color because it is slightly lighter than my normal hair.
And because I have hair dye that makes my hair slightly lighter, it mixes with the black and it ends up looking more natural.
So, just take it slow.
And I'm not changing the shapes or anything today. I'm just trying to fill them in.
There we go. Super easy.
So, that is kind of it for these two things. Pop them all the way aside.
What do we have next? Let's do our lashes. Curler first. Mascara. This is an E.L.F. one.
And I like to go one eye at a time to make sure it gets like the maximum curlage.
So, I put it here and then hold it for a second. And I don't move anything until after it is like sufficiently curled.
Let go. Pull.
and then go with mascara.
And I'm glad I'm doing it this way today. As much as I love how false lashes look and it's super fun and dramatic, this will be a lot more comfortable.
And I like to add like a nice thick layer of mascara.
So, I'll pass the brush over a few times.
Make sure to like wiggle it a little bit to quote everything.
And we'll do the bottom ones as well.
Try not to push too hard whenever you do this. So that way you don't like get it all over the place.
You just want like a nice little coating.
There we go. Doesn't make a crazy huge difference, but it makes like enough of a difference that I do it. I'm still drinking water.
Then other side.
Again, we're going to smush this all together here.
Let go. And do the exact same thing.
Do a nice thick layer. I'm very happy with how the colors look today. It's just like pink enough that it matches the red of my dress, but it's nothing too like crazy that it went all over the place.
Sometimes I find when you go out to these things, less is more. Not just because of like, oh, it looks better, which I actually don't think is true. I think more is more in that case, but you get a lot more comfortable when you're going to be outside all day. And we are like blessed with beautiful 70° weather on top of everything else, which makes me so thrilled when you don't have to worry about the super hot melting of everything on your body. I went to Gen Con a few years ago. I don't know if anybody knows what that is or has been, but it's just a giant tabletop convention out in Indiana.
And we went in August. This was maybe 3 years ago now. It was so hot that all of our costumes were just like melting.
They were literally melting. It was crazy.
So, all of this stuff is on. I'm debating what step to do next.
by cleaning up this area a little tiny bit just with the stuff I know I don't need. Maybe we should do the ears next just to get them on and out of the way.
I think I'm gonna grab this.
So, I got I haven't used these ones before.
I've used other ones in the past. These are like just the toppers for the ear.
So, they get like right on top.
I think I'm going to go I have to wash my makeup brushes. So, I don't particularly care about getting them gross cuz I have the liquid latex. I'm going to use this little flat brush here.
And I think I'm going to have to like double up on headbands just to move my hair all the way out of the way. Let me take these ones off.
Oh, we can just do it this way. So, the gist of this, from my knowledge, liquid latex gets put onto the ears. You let it dry like lash glue and then you stick it on.
So, being very careful not to get this everywhere, I'm just going to put a little tiny bit of it onto my brush.
And then I'm going to start like painting the inside of the ears here, which I feel like is what will work the best. And like I said, I've used liquid latex before. I just haven't used this specific kind of little ear. I've done tons of like special effects prosthetic stuff before. So, that's my idea. That's where I'm like thinking this will work.
So, once it's on, I just realized I grabbed the wrong ear this time. Going to take it. I'm letting it dry just a little bit. I don't want it to be like totally dry, but I don't want it to be totally like wet either. Then it's supposed to just sit over top of the ear like this. And I'm going to hold it in place.
I have really small ears, so I'm hoping that does not mess with this.
And then I'm trying to like press it down so it really gets like connected to the rest of my skin.
I gave it a really like good solid layer of the liquid latex. I just don't know how long it's going to take to dry.
Yeah, it feels a little liquidy still.
It feels less latex, more liquid.
I'm just going to keep holding it in its spot, but it will definitely stick. I can already tell that it's starting to dry down. And I think it fits my ear pretty decent, even though, again, I have like little baby ears.
And then my hope is that my hair makes it mostly blend, but I don't care if it doesn't look perfect.
I think it's going to need Oh, you know what? I'm sure that my sunblock was probably not a good idea. I should have wiped it off first.
Maybe it can just be fixed with an extra layer.
And then I'm just pushing it down in that spot.
We'll see. I may have to like wipe it all off and try again cuz I forgot that I put sunblock on. I have a feeling it's not going to stick very well to that.
But we'll see. It feels like it's sticking in the back of my ear better.
Let's just do the other ear and see how that works. Um, I don't even have like a little towel, but just wipe it the best I can with my hands.
And then same thing, I'm going to kind of smush it open, get the liquid latex, and just put it all up inside this thing.
This is like a big bottle that I got here for only I think it was $4. It was very cheap.
And I want to try to use this to make some little like bumpy scaly things on my face. So that will be the next step.
And again, put it on. We'll let it dry for a second.
I definitely think it's going to be fine sticking.
Just that front area is giving me a hard time. But again, it might just also be because I have small little ears. And my sister always makes fun of me for them.
There we go. Same thing. We're going to try and slot my ear into it.
This one feels like it's skinnier than the other one did.
There we go.
And I'm holding it in place. Trying to wait for it to smush down just a little bit.
This one I think I got a much better like grip on my ear with just going to put it down. Now, I'm sure if I had on a full face of foundation and then I covered the ears in foundation, too, it would look really, really good. But I just do not want to end up putting all that makeup on today just when I'm not feeling 100%. But these look cute. They definitely work.
I'm glad I got these. It was super cheap. I think combined I spent like $10 on Amazon. A couple on the ears and a couple on the liquid latex.
I'm happy with that.
And because they're these like little tiny ones, they don't feel like they're going to irritate me throughout the day.
And if they do, I'll just pull them off.
I also got those little vampire fangs that you like boil the mold in the hot water until it gets like malleable and then you could shape them to your teeth.
But I think that might be a little too difficult to do on stream. I'm probably going to have to like sit in front of the bathroom mirror for that part.
There we go. All right. I think it might need another layer of glue, but I will do that part later.
I'm tempted to see if what I want to do here works. What I wanted is like a couple little scaly things. I don't think it's going to. And I feel like this is kind of just going to be a waste of my time. You know what?
Let me not waste my time. Let me just go back into here.
And I'm trying a new method to get this part to stay down. I'm going to give like a nice small layer, like an actual like blobby layer here.
And I think if I just let it dry before I push anything down, again, kind of like fake eyelashes, it'll end up sticking better. We're going to do that on both sides. It was definitely an issue of the sunscreen because the backs of my ears feel like totally glued on fine.
So, I'm going to give those both a nice layer. And while they're drying, going to take my highlighter and I'm just going to put that on my face in the normal spots underneath the eyebrows.
This is my blue highlighter that I use almost every single day cuz it looks like a little mirror.
We're going to put some over here, little on the nose, bridge of the nose, and just the very tops of my cheekbones.
Same thing, very tops of the cheekbones.
Just kind of blending it out with my fingers.
There we go.
Now, if we're lucky, when I stick this on, it'll actually stick to the latex.
And I'm just going to hold my hands in these spots for a minute or two. But that's pretty much it. I have my lipstick we'll put on last, and then I will be entirely done. Switch the headband back to the little horns to show you all of it. And that'll be it for today. Again, I would have liked to do a little bit more, but cannot get in the way of an upset stomach. So, this will have to do for today.
I think they're going to stick this time. I'm just trying to hold them all the way in place to make sure they're like really good. I was also nervous that I would have some sort of an allergic reaction to the liquid latex, but that does not seem to be happening.
I'm just going to hold these for longer.
They're definitely working better this time. But, um, this is I would highly recommend getting these. I maybe I'll put them on my like Instagram story if anybody's interested with like the links on Amazon.
This gigantic bottle will last me quite some time.
And then on top of that, they gave multiple pairs of ears. I think it was for $6. I got four pairs. So in including the ones that are on now, but we are just going to slowly I think they're I'm so nervous to like feel them just pop off. And I don't want to hold them for too long because I'm lazy and I have other things to do today.
I think I've held them on for a good enough period of time. Going to go in in with this stuff. So, Birds Be Chapstick always before lipstick.
And I've been debating if I wanted to do pink or black.
Mainly just because actually, you know what? I'm not going to do either. Going to take my red and I'm going to do this very light just because I wanted something that'll be easier to manage throughout the day.
put the tiniest little drop on my finger and buff it into my lips just to have it be on the more natural side today only cuz I know I'm going to be eating a ton of food.
Super simple lipstick. I feel these are popping off again, so I'm going to hold them in place. But um I'll zoom I'll zoom myself out so you don't have like super like fisheye view of me right in front of the camera so you can see all of it when it's done.
But I'm pretty satisfied, especially with the ears, even if they do pop off a little tiny bit. But essentially, we'll take the headband down.
My hair is like a total giant frizzy mess. Actually don't know what I want to do with my hair today. I might do like a little bit up in the back. Let me get a hair tie. We'll do that.
All right, hair tie acquired.
Just going to do it like a little half up, half down. Especially then you can see the sides of my head all shaved. I think that looks cool, especially for a place like this.
And we'll do a loose ponytail on top.
Just making sure I grab all of this. Go about halfway and then loop it around maybe two times into a little bun.
Perfect. And then the last part are my little teling horns.
Oh, that looks cute. This headband was also like $6. It was a good purchase.
That is pretty much the final look for today.
I might throw some more jewelry on later. And I have like the corsets and the straps and all that stuff, but that is what we are working with. So, thank you everybody so much for joining me today. Again, I probably would have done more under different circumstances, but I think this is simple and it's cute and fun. So, I will see you all next week for another stream. I'll probably post pictures from today on Instagram. I'll post whatever I buy. Take care everybody.
