Obsession was incredible and honestly one of the best horror films not just of the year, but possibly of the last five years. It was seriously that good. So, if you're a horror fan and still haven't seen it, go watch it in the theaters immediately.

[00:00:46]The lighting, direction, soundtrack, the atmosphere were all fantastic and Indi Navarrette gave an extraordinarily creepy performance throughout the film.

[00:00:55]Seriously terrifying. Now, the reason I'm making this video is because Curry Barker actually mentioned in a clip recently that an Obsession anthology series could potentially happen someday.

[00:01:04]I I do I do think like I obviously have a couple more things that I'm excited about next, but I do see Obsession 2 maybe or or even what really is exciting to me is maybe an anthology like a 1-hour episode. Each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails.

[00:01:24]And you could you could have maybe I'll direct the pilot with the same DP and then you could invite other filmmakers to kind of give their spin at it and that would be really [music] cool. And honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think it could absolutely work because the One Wish Willow concept has so much potential beyond just one story.

[00:01:42]So, how would a series like this actually play out? Personally, I imagine the show slowly exploring the origins of the One Wish Willow itself, where it came from, when it was created, how it appeared throughout different eras of history, and how people used it across generations. I'd also love to see more of the bizarre customer service side of things and how this ancient supernatural evil somehow became commercialized into a consumer product. I imagine the One Wish Willow goes back centuries, if not millennia, to old Mesopotamia or Sumeria and even Egyptian folklore. All throughout history to ancient Greece and Celtic and Druid civilizations that make up modern-day UK. It would be cool to see all the possible cursed takes on wish fulfillment throughout different eras of history, especially as the One Wish Willow existed in completely different forms across time. The current-day customer service division would be one of the most interesting parts of the series. I'd love to see how the One Wish Willow was eventually corporatized into a consumer product, how it was discovered, why it was mass-produced, and how it ended up becoming a vintage toy sold in the 1980s. The anthology could balance stand-alone horror stories with an ongoing mystery surrounding the origins of the Willow and the evil behind it.

[00:02:50]Some episode ideas would be: A hippie wishes for world peace and humanity becomes permanently silent and motionless. A man wishes to become president of the United States only to be assassinated immediately after achieving power. A farmer wishes for success, but his animals slowly turn violent and eat him alive. A high school girl wishes to become thin, but every pound she loses requires another human sacrifice. Someone wishes to live in the future and wakes up in a dystopian wasteland. Pirates discover a cursed treasure after wishing for ultimate riches. A Celtic boy wishes to become a great knight and is devoured by a creature deep within the forest. Now, can we talk about the online discourse surrounding this movie for a second?

[00:03:30]Because everywhere I look, people are calling Bear, the main character, evil or treating him like some cartoon villain. And I think that completely misses the point of the character. Curry Barker very clearly wrote Bear to be relatable, even if you don't agree with his actions or the wish he made. A lot of the discussions online feel overly emotional and surface level, especially when people reduce the entire character down to labels instead of engaging with the actual storytelling. Protagonists are allowed to make selfish decisions.

[00:03:58]They're allowed to hurt people. The important question is whether they recognize the consequences of their actions and attempt to make things right. And in Obsession, Bear clearly struggles with the guilt and remorse once he realizes the damage he's caused.

[00:04:11]He's not portrayed as malicious or sadistic. He's insecure, emotionally immature, lonely, and desperate to have his love returned. That's what makes him compelling. He's a flawed protagonist with a failed redemption arc, which makes him tragic rather than purely evil. Honestly, what makes the character work so well is how disturbingly realistic he feels. A lot of people love pretending they'd never make selfish choices if given that kind of power, but most human beings aren't nearly as morally perfect as they pretend to be online. Bear isn't a good person, but he's also not some irredeemable monster.

[00:04:44]He's uncomfortably normal. He never truly believes the wish will work at first, and once it does, most of the movie becomes him spiraling deeper into denial, fear, insecurity, and rationalization. He repeatedly considers undoing the wish, but backs away because of very human emotions. That's what makes the story effective to me. Anyway, that's my little rant on the discourse surrounding the film. Let me know what you guys think about the idea of an Obsession anthology series because I honestly think the concept has huge potential. I'm always down for more Twilight Zone or Black Mirror style horror, and if Curry Barker stayed involved creatively, I think it could really work.
