THE FARMHOUSE. Maple Syrup is done. Cleaning and tilling the garden. Warm then cold weather.Added:
Hello everyone and welcome back.
We have a misty kind of a rainy rotten spring morning, but it's not snowing.
It's supposed to get up to like in the 60s today. So, we'll see what happens.
I've got the last of the in the last video, I think I had 37 gallons that I collected and I'm that's the last of it boiling right there. So, I have to go back out today and collect sap and then I'm done. I'm not going to be collecting anymore for the next 4 days or so days and nights. It's not going to get like above freezing, below freezing. It's all going to stay above freezing. So, I can finish all that, pull all the taps, and be done with maple syrup. Uh, at the end of or middle to the end of the following week, it looks like it's going to be getting cold and warm again. But, I'm pretty sure by then those trees are going to be budding out and the sap's not going to be running very good.
I just was out and unplugged the heaters that are in the tanks there, so they don't run.
And uh yeah, I'll plug them in next week if I need to, but for now there's no reason to have them going.
I just went out and I collected another 45 gallons of sap.
So, I got some boiling to do and then I went and got another sled full of wood and I filled her all back up again.
The air is so heavy and stuff. Look at that smoke just hang going right for the neighbors, but they're way over there.
I just put three ribe eyes in here.
We're having that and baked potato, macaroni and cheese, and peas for lunch.
Just like the garlic and chili flake, we only want to cook this Come here. Somebody walking.
>> Oh, Manny.
That's good.
Good morning everybody. I left this morning at 7:00. I did not start up the sap boiler and now I just got home. It's just about 11 and I just fired it up and I have to leave again at 1:30 and then I'll get home around 5:00 or so. But I wanted to get it boiling some right now and then I'll let it kind of die down when I leave so I don't, you know, run out of sap on the one side and ruin my whole batch. And uh but I I think I can get a good five gallons, maybe a little bit more boiled down and before I have to leave today. The high is 49°.
I don't know what it is now. It's got to be above 40 already, but there's no real wind, so it feels really nice. Yesterday is 64 or 66 or whatever it was. Was absolutely beautiful. I didn't even film anything in the afternoon. Melissa and I drove around in the buggy for till it was like 7:30 when we got done. We tried to make it through the woods, but we couldn't quite make it all the way through because of the snow yet. Um, checked all the fruit trees, talked about things, looked at the garden and everything today. Now, it's not quite as nice. I don't think we're supposed to see the sun at all. They were talking about severe weather today. Rain, possible hail, thunderstorms, even tornado, tornado watches or whatever, but it looks like that's going to be more south. My dad messaged me this morning and said they're under some uh weather alerts for this afternoon. But up here, we were in like a moderate risk, but my phone is showing nothing.
But I need to get that sap done because it's out of the tree. It's in the buckets. I have what, three and a half buckets to go. And because it's warm like this, it will start to go bad in a couple of days if it doesn't get boiled down.
Yesterday I come out here to do chores and Mesa was inside the bail ring which was right here.
So she was inside of it and I dumped the grain and she didn't come and it's like I bet you she is stuck in there. So, I went and did other things and everything. And then Melissa and I went on the buggy ride and I come around. I said, "Let's go check."
And we going to look and she's still in there. She was stuck. She couldn't get out.
So then I'm over there. I'm trying to push her backwards. If she could have got in and went out on a different side of it where the the little thingies are are bent a little bit on the one side.
She could have got through, but she wouldn't go backwards and there's no way you're moving a you know, 1500 lb cow.
So anyway, then I thought, well, I'm going to have to get down between her front legs with the sawzaw, cuz that's right where she was, and cut the bolts so I can open that thing up. And Melissa said, "Why don't you just come in with the tractor and lift it up on the back side so then the front side goes down and she can get over?" And it was like, "Brilliant," you know? So, brought the tractor in, uh, lifted it up, and then finally she did get out and then I just completely moved it cuz this is all humped up right here because there's still ice and snow underneath it. this will drop down once it all melts under there. And then I moved it over there and put a new bail in there for her. It was like that's the last thing I need to do. You know, I had the earlier this or in the winter time I had the um well, we call him Mr. Bull Calf, but there we have two bull cavs. Anyway, on the fence here, he um tried to jump over and got caught and couldn't couldn't get on it or off of it. So, I had to take and cut the 2x6 top rail so he could get out of there. And then I went ahead and put the 2x10 on top so he can't jump over trying to get in here to Mesa. So, that was like the one dumb cow thing that happened. The other calf, if I don't have the um cattle panels around it, it just goes right through the electric fence. It doesn't care. And now Mesa getting stuck in there. So, they always say when you have cows, you're going to have stupid things happen. And now it I am.
Oh, I just heard my first grouse. I I just was talking to Melissa yesterday when we were on the buggy ride. I said I have not heard a grouse drum this spring at all. And I just heard one.
I'm just about to head out again. And I did get about six gallons boiled down in my time that I was here.
doing, huh? You being a good girl.
Luckily, those storms that uh were supposed to come through tonight never did. They all stayed south, so we've been dry. I was really worried about that.
Well, that's 82 gallons all boiled down.
uh sitting on the stove now. I have to leave today at about 12:30. Won't get home until probably around 5. And then I'll start that up on the stove inside.
And it'll take I don't know a good hour, hour and a half to boil down to uh 220. 219 is where a lot of people boil it to, but when you use the bricks thing here, uh it's usually at about 220. So, I go to 220 and then it'll get filtered through the Orlon filter and it'll be ready for uh the jars and then I can see what I got for this whole entire season.
I still have bags out there. I don't know if they have anything in them. I suppose I should check that too to see if I'm going to boil anymore, but hopefully I'm done.
sources.
Yeah, I'm surprised that that's coming up. That was just covered in snow two days ago.
>> The snow has really melted all melted away.
Did >> you put that there?
>> Uh, last year I did. Yeah. Are we going to take the trail part or >> Yeah, I was just going to >> Oh, wow.
>> Yeah, they're really butting out.
>> Tomorrow everything's really going to jump and then it's going to get cold. At least nothing's going to be flowering.
>> Nice.
>> Yeah, that one does look really good.
Yeah, that's all buds on there. See?
>> Yeah.
>> I don't think that the the roots were deep enough.
>> No, >> I mean that's like a what? A 7year-old tree now.
>> Which one?
>> Yeah, probably that from the same guy we got that these from.
>> Yeah.
>> Look at that.
Going to be a lot of cherries this year.
>> Yep.
>> Yeah. This one was I don't know how many we got off of this tree for apples last year, but we're going to get a lot more this year. If it flowers at the right time and we don't get a freeze after that, you know, >> right?
>> Both of these will do good.
It'd be really nice to get flowers on our honey crisp, but we haven't had anything yet.
>> This one.
>> Yeah. My third, fourth one. Fourth chicken's back here.
>> Lost, huh?
I can't believe your man's letting you escape.
Good morning everybody. 28° outside and my phone says it's going to get to 73 today. I didn't film much yesterday.
Melissa and I went on that buggy ride.
I'm doing a battery review video. I'm trying to finish up a maple syrup video for Joe and Zach Survival.
But today, if it's going to be that nice, I think I'm going to play around with getting the garden cleaned up. I want to go out and pull all the taps and bags off the trees out there because maple uh syrup, I'm done with that now.
It's cold right now, but 70 is going to feel nice. We have not hit 70 this year yet, so it is going to be nice.
Now, the first thing I'm going to do this morning here is go out and pull all of the all the maple sap stuff. Remove all the taps and bags and everything.
Get that done right away here before the bugs get out and everything gets nasty.

>> I saw that. Good morning, everybody. I don't even know if I did any talking yesterday after I did worked in the garden. I got those taps all picked up yesterday and then got in the garden, got that cleaned out and the first tilling done on this front part. And I mean, it was 73 degrees. We went on a buggy ride last night. It was beautiful.
And now today, I don't know what it was in the 30s. And then it's supposed to get up into the mid50s.
And then around noon or 1:00, the storms come through. And by 4:00 this afternoon, it's going to be 35. And I think tonight it's going down to 24°.
So then we're going to have a the weekend's going to be chilly. And then it'll warm back up into the 50s next week. Today is Friday. Uh, I got to get some things put away here cuz we're there's like a 100% chance of a/2 inch of rain today.
So, I need to get my maple sap stuff put away and probably the stove over there and everything because I don't need it anymore and I don't want everything getting filled up with rain.
Also, they said when that front comes through the winds might get up close to 50 miles an hour. I don't need five gallon buckets rolling all over the yard.

last fall, last summer Actually, this tire would go flat every couple of days and then it was like every day it's like I've got to get this in and get it fixed before wintertime. And then winter time came and not one time have I had to pump this tire up. Yesterday we hit our first 70° day. Boom. It goes down. Where did I put my chuck?

That looks a little bit better. I'm already getting a few raindrops falling on me when I was out there. You can see it on top of the garbage can lid.
It's been an hour since it hailed out.
And that hail, some of it's still sitting on the ground. It went from 50 or 53 this morning. Right now it's 33.3°.
Okay, everyone. Well, thanks a lot for watching.
It's uh about 9:30 at night uh Friday night and now it is down to uh 31.3 is what it said last time. I don't know. We have a cold weekend coming up and it's going to warm up again next week. I'll see you guys on the next video.
