We have roofed our chicken coop and our charcoal briquettes are working wonders
Added:Hey guys, it's an evening here in Africa. Uh in Zambia to be specific.
Welcome and uh welcome to today's vlog.
My name is Samson, the road man. And uh we are right here in our village. Yeah.
And uh today I want to show you guys some progress that we've made towards the building or the construction of our chicken coop. You know, some of you have um uh actually witnessed it from the start, the time I was building it. And uh I want you to see how far we've actually gone, you know? So, if you're new here, kindly consider subscribing. Turn on the bell notification so that whenever I do post a new video, you guys you won't miss like anything of my upload, okay?
So, let's go. We'll show you. So, we are right here in our village. And uh you can see the sun is shining bright bright, guys, from there. That's my window there. You can see how the sun is looking from this wall fence. Let me see.
Yeah, that is it. That is the sun there.
It's settling, guys. So, today's uh video is a very short video. I just want to give you guys an update on uh what we've been working on today.
Okay? So, we actually we are just done now. We're just done.
We're doing beam filling today. So, the other day we actually roofed this uh building over here. This is our chicken coop. But, this can be somebody's house. So, we built it in this way because uh in case things go wrong or in case we want uh somebody to move in, this can be a good a good house, you know? So, we built it in this way, not like the usual chicken coop way.
Uh it's like this because even in future, we may want to extend it maybe to put another bedroom here. Then it can be a one bedroom house if you may call it that way. But this is so big. Yeah, this is the work that the guys have been doing. They've been uh They've been been feeling today. But uh let me just show you. This is the inside. This is how it looks.
Okay, so we finally have a roof on top of this chicken coop.
You know, so we are getting there guys.
We are slowly slowly getting there.
So there are quite a lot of things in here. And I have these planks, these are these timber here.
You know, I'm I'm making a plan for this.
I'm thinking the windows for the windows, we're going to use some of these timber. Cuz just need like the wire mesh, or is it called the chicken mesh or I don't know. Wire mesh, yeah.
We can just cut it, put these uh the same timber here.
And then uh you know, just put the wire mesh there.
Okay?
So that is it.
But uh let me show you from this other side.
The progress from this other side, guys.
Progress in our village.
Take a look.
This is how it is.
This is how it is.
Yes, guys. So we've done some works today. Roofing, we are actually roofing this. Roofing and beam filling. So when they say beam filling, they actually mean you know there are those spaces that remain where after you've built up to roof level, there's that space. So like you can see from here, you can see the small small blocks there and then they are growing, they're becoming bigger on this other side and then two on the other at the far end. So this space had remained. So to make it like slanting so that water when it's raining, water should be flowing like that.
This is how we we we do it, you know?
So, we raise it a little bit on this other side and then it goes lower on this other side. Otherwise, this is our work and I'm happy that some of these chickens These are the Zambro chickens that we're keeping so far, guys.
Some of you Some of these chickens have now started knowing this part.
You know, most of them were not familiar with this one. So, now they're able to to come here, you know, look for food from this here, which is good. So, we've deliberately kept this place unkept, if there's something like that.
Uh so that they can come here and look for food. Uh but also we supplement them with uh some commercial village feeds and also some Gaga sometimes, yeah.
Um which gives them a lot of energy, you know?
So, Okay.
So, most of these chickens have just been eating from the other side there and even there where they are right now.
That's where they've been eating from.
But uh they don't normally come to this place, like to this This is unfamiliar, you know, place for them, but this is good for their food.
I don't know. Yeah.
So, there was maize that was planted here, guys, and uh the other day I did a video where I actually showed uh the maize that we had harvested, you know, and the mealie meal that we got we've gotten so far, but uh this is the building. And for those that may not know, I actually built this myself.
This is a building we built ourselves.
Yes, we roofed this chicken house, guys.
Maybe this can be my thumbnail, you know?
Yes, there we go.
That is the building that we actually uh built ourselves and it's finally here. It's taking shape very well. What is remaining is this. Let me show you. The windows, the first thing actually. The windows, we don't need like proper nice nice windows. It's just a wire mesh that we are going to buy.
Yeah.
Maybe a diamond wire and then we're going to put it right here and use these timbers to hold. That is it. And then even on the other side even on the other side there, we'll do the same like outside like that.
Chickens can be able to to use this house. And then on the door I have this. This is a door the door frame this one.
So, this will be used here.
You know, I don't know if I'll be able to do it myself, but uh yeah, maybe we go and uh fix it. You fix the door and everything and then you just lift the whole thing and you just come and fit it here. I know I can fit it.
myself. And then this this is this is how it is here so far. But then we are going to go also on the floor.
So, we need to put a floor here. So, we need about 30 wheelbarrows if I'm not mistaken, 25 to 30 wheelbarrows of uh quarry stones. Quarry stones. And then we need about uh eight to 10 pockets of cement.
Just to fix this.
You know, just to fix this to have everything sorted here.
That is what we need. So, a pocket of cement right now it's costing uh 160 kwacha in Zambia. So, that is it. I'm just saying it for the sake of those that would want to support me in on this journey, you know. I'm your Zambian content creator and I do travel videos, real estate, and farming content. So, if you like these three things and you'd want to stick watch this video to the end and watch a lot of my other videos, make sure that you subscribe and also like this particular video. It really helps. So, I'm just doing I'm telling you guys like what do I need uh right now because of course I don't have money right now. That's this is why we haven't done anything here. But uh if some of you want to support and hey Samson, we can support you with uh two buckets of cement, which is three which is about 320 kwacha.
You're welcome. So, please that is what we need. Then the the cement the quarry, sorry.
Quarry stones uh going at uh 35 kwacha per wheelbarrow.
So, we need about 30 30 wheelbarrows.
That's what I was saying. So, if you want to support me, it's 30 35 kwacha, one wheelbarrow.
So, yes guys, you can support me if you want. Please, please, please, I would really appreciate.
We let's get this one done and then we see how the progress, guys. Cuz what is important what I've noticed is that uh in terms of farming uh is that um Let me stand here.
Is that uh the main challenge is finding a structure.
You know, the structure where you can keep your birds like chicken rearing.
You need a proper structure for your birds.
If you don't have that, it's it's a big big issue. You can't even do uh a chicken rearing.
Otherwise, for us, we are getting there slowly slowly. And uh the moment we are going to be done we'll plan on which type of chickens we'll be using this this which type of chickens we'll be using this because we're going to have a variety of chickens. Like right now we've got these.
These are the Zambro chickens.
You know, the Zambian village chickens.
It's a Zambian improved chickens. These are the ones here, guys.
The Zambian improved chickens. So, these that one is coughing.
I can hear that.
So, I gave them some ginger and most of them have stopped, but I can still hear a few still coughing.
Yeah, cuz it's very cold here, you know? Otherwise, that is it. So, we're going to decide which ones will be using this and then we're going to build just something temporal somewhere there for the other village chickens.
So, maybe here we can put the layers, the ones that give you eggs.
Um but these are dual-purpose chickens.
They can give you eggs and they also give you good meat.
Um and they also have the black Australops. So, we'll decide on which one will be staying there, you know, and which ones will be staying in that one and which ones will be staying in the temporal one which we're going to build somewhere behind these trees, you know? And then these, which will be staying here, will be secluded or yeah, secluded from the rest because we're going to put a wire fence up to somewhere with somewhere there and then it will come all the way up to somewhere here and then go straight up there. So, this will be their playing ground, you know, and then that's their sleeping area and their laying area. And then on this other side we can also have a small wire, you know, that we'll actually going to include these plants.
This This is our orchard area, but we can have a chicken house, a small chicken house there. Maybe something that can accommodate maybe 50, 100 birds somewhere there, village chickens. And then we enclose it like that. So, that's our plan.
So, guys, thank you so much to those that have been supporting me. Thank you so, so much. Uh Uh Our structure is up.
You know, and we are very grateful, you know? Very, very grateful.
Okay, guys, we want to test our homemade briquettes, briquettes, as some of you call them.
But, they are very light. That's the That's one thing I've seen.
So, I think this These are dry now.
Dry. We are going to test them, guys.
Bring, bring, bring, bring.
Mhm.
So, they were 13, remember?
So, I'm going to light uh put a bit of charcoal to start the fire.
Okay, guys, so what we are doing is to light up a small fire.
And then we're going to put the actual fire briquettes, the ones that we made, guys.
So.
Let me just see if I can get this fire going.
And then we put the fire briquettes, briquettes on top.
And see if they are going to burn.
Okay.
Preparing a fire in Africa, guys.
So, put a bit of charcoal.
Just small charcoal just to get them going.
If at all they'll get going.
Mhm.
Testing one, two, guys. If this works, if this works, then we are going to start producing them, guys.
For our village, for home consumption, anyway.
Okay, this looks like it.
Let us taste. Tasting 1 2.
Okay, now let's bring this one here closer to the flame up. Bring the camera.
Okay, so now that's the little fire that we've lit up.
And these are our fire briquettes. So, we're going to put them just on top.
Just on top like that.
Like that, like that.
Like that, like that.
Okay.
With the hope that they are going to They're going to They're going to light up. Okay.
So, after this we give them just Yeah, let's put maybe everything.
Let's put everything and then we wait.
Okay.
We wait or maybe we do this a little bit.
For a meantime.
We do this.
So, this is our flock. These are the black Australorp chickens chicks that we have and you can see some of them are piling up in that corner. But, no others are eating.
Others are eating. So, that's a good thing.
Okay.
This is now they're scared. They've gone to to sit in that corner.
Okay, let's wait. Wait.
Let's wait. wait and see.
Okay, now we can put these You can see that? That was because of this um There's a bit of um the charcoal that didn't burn well and that's the one that is giving us that uh the the flame.
Yeah.
So, let's wait and see. Okay?
All right, guys. Take a look at our fire bri- briquettes.
This is how they are how they are working, guys.
There's a bit of smoke, not that much, just a bit, but I think it's because of the charcoal that we used to start the fire.
But, this is our product.
And you can see, it's taking time for it to burn.
Uh but, I'm going to test it and uh we'll see. Maybe it can go for 3 hours or so.
I don't know.
So, we just uh started the fire and I'm going to observe how long they can burn, you know? How long they can burn.
Okay, but this is good. So far, so good, guys. Our chickens will be happy.
They'll have at least uh some heat from this.
Okay.
Amazing.
Amazing fire briquettes.
Okay, and I'm yet to grasp the method that they used when they are using the maize stalk and maize comb.
If that one because I have a bit of at least a bag and a bag plus actually two bags for the maize comb.
I don't know how you use those.
And if you guys know how to use the maize comb to make this instead of the charcoal, let me know in the comment section how it's done. Okay.
I would really really appreciate.
Okay. But these are our fire briquettes on our on our on our bowler here.
You know.
Okay. So, yeah, let's see how long they can burn.
Okay. Thank you so much for watching uh this video. Thank you so much. Just to confirm that the fire briquettes that we made are actually working. You know. So, thank you so much guys. We'll see you in the next video. Bye.
