The goal was to unite the Arab world under one powerful nation, become independent from the West, and to destroy Israel that had invaded Egypt 2 years prior in the Suez Crisis. The problem is that the Arab world was very fractured. Egypt continued to be called the United Arab Republic for a decade, hoping to attract more countries to join, but this never happened.
