Coin From a Very Unique Country: The United Arab Republic #coins #history #numismaticsAdded:
This coin comes from an Egypt tried to unite with Syria. It's 10 milliemes from 1958 of the United Arab Republic. The goal was to unite the Arab world under one powerful nation, become independent from the West, and to destroy Israel that had invaded Egypt 2 years prior in the Suez Crisis. The problem is that the Arab world was very fractured. [music] Gamal Abdel Nasser was ruling the country and supported Arab socialism, while there was a second block in the Arab Cold War led by the pro-Western Gulf monarchies. Still, the United Arab Republic existed [music] for a whopping 3 years. In 1961, there was a coup in Syria that made the country leave the union. Egypt continued to be called the United Arab Republic for a decade, hoping to attract more countries to join, but this never happened.
