Northeast Ohio weather forecast: Rainy night, cooler week

[00:00:01]Ah, let's say this is another cozy little night to stay in.

[00:00:05]>> [laughter] >> Have your margarita at home. Uh, I'll tell you what, I was literally just looking up margarita recipes cuz it's Cinco de Mayo. So, it is a good night to kind of get some comfort food around you. Tacos, of course, on the menu for the evening and you can see the rain that is coming down. So, if you have to run around and get any errands done this evening, it's probably not the best of nights to do so. Good steady rain coming down in downtown Cleveland and points beyond. The rain will continue as we head into the night. Now, you folks in Akron, Dover, haven't really seen any rain yet. That will change as the evening goes on. So, let's talk about this forecast. Okay, right now we have the rain that is coming in and it's going to continue to spread across the area. This is also on the leading edge of the cooler air that's just going to stay with us for the next several days.

[00:00:51]And when you get cool air this time of the year, it means it's going to be a little bit unsettled. Not all bad news, but definitely unsettled. Here's a look at the radar right now and man, it is really starting to green up and we're seeing a lot more color that is showing up as well, especially down that I-71 corridor. Put this into a motion for you and you kind of see how the radar has been bringing this next swath of rain in. I would say south of the turnpike, that's where the heaviest rain is right now and that wall of water will continue to move in. So, Wooster, Millersburg, Medina, you have heavy rain that is going to be on your doorstep within the next half hour. Moving east then from Akron down to Canton, Dover, New Philadelphia, Carrollton, Kent, Ravenna, you folks all have the same rain that is coming your way very soon and that is probably going to make things a little soggy around here. Uh, we've only had two lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes and a lot of that has been concentrated farther to the south of Mansfield, but I would not be surprised if we end up with a few rumbles of thunder coming in. All of this is associated with a wave of low pressure that's working its way along a front.

[00:01:56]So, you can kind of see the line of rain as we mentioned at the top of the broadcast, a lot more rain off to the west. That front is pretty much stationary at this point. It may waver just a little bit back and forth, but we can see where the front is on the surface based on where the temperature difference takes place.

[00:02:13]Northerly winds coming in, that cool temperature all the way down to the US 30 corridor and that kind of gives that path of least resistance for our low to work on. As the low continues to move through the state of Ohio, it will drag behind it this next wave of rain that just continues to ride over us. So, we will have rain through the night for most of the area. At times, heavy rain is a possibility. That means ponding of water on the roadways. It could also mean some low-lying flooding and also your sump pump is going to be very busy this evening if you have one of those.

[00:02:45]National Design My Hour-by-Hour forecast shows this uptick in the rain rates coming through the area through the rest of the evening. We'll have persistent rain overnight, but then by 7:00 a.m.

[00:02:54]with a little fog hanging out, temperatures are going to be in the 40s, but at least it looks like the big swath of rain is moving out. We'll continue to have mostly cloudy skies for a big chunk of the day. Wouldn't be surprised if we end up with some drizzle, especially along the lakeshore areas, and then drizzly conditions continuing into the afternoon, but tomorrow will be notably cooler. And again, this is just the beginning of a cool stretch for us.

[00:03:17]Union Home Mortgage forecast keeps us in the mid-50s for Thursday with a repeat of the day. By Friday, we're trying to dry things out a little bit. That's going to help to boost us into the 60s.

[00:03:27]We're looking at a few showers for Saturday and on Sunday, which is Mother's Day, with highs in the low 60s.
