Vermont installing new technology to stop wrong-way drivers

[00:00:00]About 40% of the wrong way drivers caught are impaired. That number could be higher, but some turn around before police can find them. Officials also point to Vermont's aging population. Of those that we intervene, sometimes they're just a little bit older, maybe they have some cognitive impairment, and so they're not necessarily any sort of alcohol or drug use on board that would have impaired their ability to operate a vehicle. The new detection system is meant to alert drivers so they can self-correct. This is new technology for Vermont. Has this worked in other places around the country? Yes, it So, it is new technology for Vermont. There are other states across the country, certainly in New England, that implemented this. This is video of a similar system used in Delaware. The signs lighting up when a car is detected going the wrong way. I think it really could be a good game-changer for Vermont in making the roads safer.
