Palestinians in Israel remember the Nakba despite growing restrictionsAdded:
Have you ever heard of Israeli's [music] Nakba a law that allows the state to cut funding from publicly funded institutions [music] that mark Israeli's Independence Day as a day of mourning. The tensions [music] around Palestinian memory become visible again this week after Israeli far-right Knesset [music] member Zvi Sukkot entered a Nakba remembrance activity organized by Palestinian students [music] in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem accusing them of supporting terrorism.
But one day later [music] the students marched peacefully on campus to keep this memory alive. For decades some Israeli leaders believed [music] that with time Palestinians would gradually lose connections to their history and identity. The old will die >> [music] >> and the young will forget. But 78 years after the Nakba Palestinian youth across towns and universities inside [music] Israel are still actively commemorating it. Throughout the Nakba week activists [music] and organizations organized tours, history sessions, cultural events, and activities for children and youth to keep the Palestinian story [music] alive. At the Arab Cultural Associations dozens of young Palestinians participated in activities about [music] memory, identity, and return. The youth needs spaces to speak up for their and identity and their minds and this kind of activities [music] the return week activities is the space for us as Palestinians to be to be us to celebrate our identity and also to carry our history forward not only by remembering [music] it but also trying to create a new existence. For many Palestinians inside Israel Nakba [music] commemorations have become not only annual memorial in event, but also part of [music] an ongoing efforts to preserve Palestinian identity >> [music] >> and historical memory across generations.
