When an electrical circuit experiences an overload (drawing more current than the breaker's rating), the breaker trips to prevent damage. For a 20-amp breaker pulling 25 amps, it typically takes 15-100 seconds to trip. The wire heats up due to increased resistance, and this heat can cause insulation degradation and oxidation at connections, creating a vicious cycle. Breaker tripping is a warning sign that something is wrong with the electrical system, not something to be ignored or simply fixed by upgrading the breaker.

What To Know! Electrical Talk For Every stageAdded:
Yeah, we're just picking up the shop. I might mess around with some tools. Uh have my safety crocs on so extra safe.
Uh need to turn off the stereo.
Talk about uh you know, we got Anthony uh not exactly a new apprentice, but you uh >> No, not >> you are an apprentice, >> but newer in the commercial sense. I did mostly residential. Oh yeah, there you go. Okay. So, what's your best advice for an apprentice coming into commercial?
Coming into uh got to be open-minded, especially if you've already have experience in residential, you're not going to know as much as you think you know. uh you know unless you're doing like so I was doing multif family so there is like garage work and pipe work and you run MC you set boxes and stuff but mostly I was dealing with drywall the one thing I I hated at first about commercial was the drop tile ceilings >> I hated the drop tile ceilings >> you don't like the >> Now I love them okay >> I don't have to cut a hole in the ceiling I can just push it up go in there find a problem fix it and put it back it's great >> you know, I just felt like they got dirty so much and they were flimsy. But after you start, you know, pushing along with it that the companies do take that seriously, messing them up. So, you don't want to get those dirty. Wash your hands, >> right?
>> MC gets so dirty.
>> Uh >> oh, yeah, dude. I uh I was wearing uh the little blue nitro gloves or whatever. Not nitro, but the just the >> like the doctor >> just the doctor gloves. I was running MC at my brother's house and uh >> yeah, you know, >> I come home at night black from running five circuits.
>> It It's funny, man. I remember whenever I used to swim a lot and I never get like water in my ears, right?
>> And when I used to run MC a lot, I'd never get my hands that dirty.
>> And now it's like you go back to it and it's like, damn, I got water in my ears and my hands, you know? It's just like it seems like whenever you do something a lot Yeah.
>> doesn't affect you as much.
>> Absolutely.
>> It's pretty funny.
Yeah. Yeah. You using a rotosplit or are you using diagonals? What's up, Souch?
Good to see you, man.
>> I have a rotosplit. I try to use a rotosplit, but sometimes, man, I'm in a rush. I'm in the ceiling. I didn't bring it. I'm going just bend it, snap it, cut it. But I always use a red devil no matter what.
>> Um, >> they showed you that's not even a code, right?
>> Yeah, I I found that out myself. But I still like to use them just because sometimes that little metal's sharp, especially the corners of it. So they cut you easily. I don't want it to gouge a wire >> when I, you know, when I put the saddle down on the uh connector.
>> That way I know it's okay.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Exactly.
>> Learn how to bend pipe as quickly as you can on your own.
>> Have you ever not had your diagonals and then you're using your clients to break the MC?
>> Uh yes.
>> Have you used your clines? I've used my clients. Uh, it sucks that they don't get under it as well and then you can't get as sharp of a cut.
>> No, I mean to break the MC, not just to cut it.
>> I got some number 10 over here. We got a mess in here. We're fixing to pick up all this.
>> Yeah. Like to break the the sheathing off. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. You can't get under it as nice.
>> Yeah. You just got to kind of pinch it.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, what about what else? Uh, >> man, you know what? One of my biggest regrets uh is actually uh these screwdrivers.
>> Yeah.
>> And and they're Vera >> and and you would think that they're nice, but just just roll that on your hand for a second and uh tell me what's wrong with it. Like just using it >> and then compare it to this and then I probably got a fast pit true grip in the uh it's going to be on the bar, dude. But I don't want to touch it cuz my my city badge is going to be on there.
>> Hold this for a second.
>> You like the feel of that? What's What's your thought on that?
>> I don't mind it.
>> I I don't know. Sometimes you get caught up in the names and stuff and you don't give it a fair review on things. So for me, for me, I feel like that's kind of happening right now. But it feels light.
It feels kind of flimsy. Um, I don't know how balanced it is.
>> So, unscrew this screw just a little bit and tell me what you Is that the number one? Yeah, that's number one. So, yeah, I don't ask me where it is. But, but you could use a flathead cuz it might be slightly Sometimes they change the freaking handles on you.
>> Yeah. So, that's a flathead.
>> Yeah.
>> I think it's etched too, isn't it?
>> Yeah, it is.
>> It's a nice head on it. I mean, it's nice.
I don't mind it, actually.
>> Do you like it?
>> I don't mind it.
>> So, for me, whenever I'm using it, I I tend to hit that part of it. Yeah.
>> And it's like slippery, and it's like, why the hell?
>> Like, I want to spin it here.
>> Yep.
>> But then this is like a high point, so it's not really a grab point.
>> I'm trying to spin from this top part of the green.
>> Well, your hands are actually probably bigger than mine, too, right? Just a little bit. Just not pretty much the same.
>> Yeah, about the same. Um yeah, for me these don't do it for me.
The the where the dots or the the bump up is um this is a fulls size one. This is a fulls size bear. This this is better with like even though it's plastic >> it's still expected every time that I grab it and it's not terrible. Right.
And then you've got this if you want to.
>> I'm I use my middle finger more than my index though.
>> Yeah. So I'm rolling here on this high point.
>> Yeah. which um for here. Let's see.
>> I can with my middle and my thumb, not my index.
>> Yeah, >> my middle lines up pretty nice with it.
>> I don't know. They seem to be like like you can look at the tip of this and you can see how it kind of like bounces all over the place, right? See how it's like I'm trying to keep it as steady as I can and it's like kind of like bouncy.
>> Yeah, this I feel like I have more control over.
>> Those you definitely have more control over. There's no doubt about that.
This this set came in a little tool pouch that I thought was so cool. And then the tool pouch, these things like disappeared inside of it. I was like, "What the heck, Vera?" So, >> yeah. Uh, have you had a chance to use this one? Have you?
>> I have not. I think I've played with it.
>> Hang on. Stop.
>> Okay, you can have it.
>> Okay.
>> I had to make sure it wasn't the prototype.
>> Gotcha.
Let's see here.
>> Have you seen that tape yet?
>> No. It feels magnetic.
>> It is magnetic.
>> It's nice.
So I think Yeah. Yeah. There you go.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're good.
>> Oh.
>> So, see? Yeah. Exactly. There you go.
That's what you want to do. Yeah. That's pretty sweet.
>> Yeah. I like that.
Nice.
>> Pull pull the pull the tip out. Have you seen it?
>> Uh I've seen your video on it.
Nice. No ball detail either. Yeah, it's a what they call a chicklet style.
>> Okay. It's hard to get out.
>> And then the the inside of this is like the uh uh different different um different screwdriver. The screwdriver itself that comes with this has that kind of leaf spring design to it.
>> And then this just has those inner um collet uh like a like a C-ring inside.
>> Gotcha.
>> That grabs.
But so far so good.
>> Yeah.
>> Um yeah, you're going to like that. So you switch it. Just switch it right there.
>> Ah.
>> Oh, look at that. You did it with one hand, too. That's good. That's good.
>> Yeah.
>> So, that's that way. But what about what about just holding it still and spinning in your hand?
>> So, you're using your thumb. You got to get the uh you got to get the the motion down. Let me see here. See, I got to turn it. There we go.
Watch.
And it's amazing when you're upside down because most screwdrivers will sit like this >> and you've got to kind of repurchase every time.
>> Yeah. And if it's it slips out >> and the balls just kind of stay right there. So >> the ball grips for the win, man. But these don't do it for me. After using which one honestly which one don't even compare the client after grabbing this, what's your thought versus the uh the the vessel?
This one feels flimsy. This feels solid.
Like if I had to hit it, I can.
>> Yeah, you can definitely hit that.
>> Yeah. So, I would lean towards this one.
Um, I like the way it fit. It like feels better in my hand. Feels like it's got a nicer cushion to it as well.
>> Do you like this?
>> I don't mind it.
>> Do you want it?
>> I mean, if you're giving it away, I'll take it. But >> I kind of want to give you one and then you got to let me know how you like it.
>> I like it when on the job site.
>> Bring it back. Okay. Got >> later. Bring it back all crapped up.
>> Okay.
>> It's probably going to come back shiny cuz you don't like it, >> right?
>> You got to let us know.
>> Okay. I got you.
>> What's up, sir?
What's up, uh, Nightbot?
>> You need a wrench? Yeah.
Just got off work, headed home. It's 8:00 p.m. Dang.
Free tools only, fools. I know. Yo, what's up? What's up, Apache? What's going on?
>> All right, so uh we gave you an air conditioner.
>> Yeah, air conditioner is amazing.
>> It's amazing.
>> It's amazing.
>> How How cold is it in your room?
>> Uh I try to keep it at 72 cuz uh the the house was The house is old, >> right?
>> The microwave, the dryer, and my entire bedroom is on one c is on the same.
>> Oh, bro, you got a microwave in your room.
>> Not in the room. It's in the kitchen.
It's bad. So, um, >> you share the kitchen circuit with your microwave. That's crazy.
>> Doesn't have a dedicated circuit.
>> That's crazy.
>> I think there's only five breakers in the whole house.
>> Wow. You know, you should find an electrician that knows how to work on that.
>> I know, right? It's not my property, so I can't just take the liberty to do it.
>> Yeah.
>> Believe me, I would.
>> Uh, >> that's funny.
>> I wanted to just run a home run at it, >> but you know, it is what it is. the three ways. None of the three ways worked when I when you know being there and I've had to fix a lot of stuff.
>> Oh man.
>> Yeah. Is what it is.
>> Yeah.
>> I like I enjoy doing >> So you got a 72 in the room though?
>> Yeah.
>> Will it get lower?
>> Yeah, it goes lower. I low and 72 because if someone uses the microwave breaker trips.
>> Oh, >> someone uses the microwave while it's on the breaker trip. So >> All right. So So fun. You Yeah, you don't want the Yeah, that's bad, dude.
>> Yeah, the way that's terrible. I know >> that's eventually the breaker is not going to trip. You know that, right?
>> Yeah. I don't even know what kind of breaker panel is it at all. I don't I've never seen it. I've never been in the master bedroom.
>> So, do I ever show you what happens while you're waiting for a breaker to trip?
>> It heats up cuz it doesn't pull too much current at once. I think it pulls just a little over. So, it just heats up.
>> Yeah. So, I forgot to bring a Sharpie out here.
You got a knife on you?
>> A knife? Yeah, >> I got one here, too. Sharpen that, please.
He's going over the trash can. We got all this mess. It's literally a job site in here. And he's like, >> I do this on the job site, too.
>> Let me do Oh, you >> That's one of the only compliments I get.
>> The only compliment you guys, you're a clean electrician. Yeah, >> that's pretty funny.
Ron getting ready for tomorrow. Nice.
>> The other trades don't like to give out compliments too often, but they always tell us. But me specifically, I I keep the job site very clean, >> man. I remember uh >> I got a nice big tip on that.
>> Damn. Okay, so panel, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Breaker.
>> Yep.
And we're going to run out >> little 12 gauge wire.
>> We'll run it out in a conduit.
We're going to go to a box. It's huge for a reason. And we're going to have a receptacle here, right? Uh, and we're not going to draw too much to keep it simple, but basically your breaker wire goes over here.
>> Yep.
>> To the hot. Now, this could be, let's just say that's 75 ft. Okay.
>> Okay. when we have an overload situation. Let's say that the ROMX is uh we can read on here possibly what it's rated for.
This is off guys, don't worry. Um we know it's 60° Celsius though based on the code book, but um I was hoping to see if I can show you.
Does not say what it's rated for here.
Romx simple.
Okay. So, ROMX is only good for 60° C, right?
>> Right.
>> 60° C.
>> Yep.
>> Now, what what is that talking about? Do you know?
>> Uh ambient temperature.
>> Well, yeah. No, no, no. What what what on the ROMX is rated at 60° the insulation? Exactly. So So with ROMX we have we have wire really close to each other and we have paper, right?
>> Yep.
>> So what happens is >> 60° you don't >> you know I don't know off the top of my head. Um hey what is the temperature of 60° C converted to Fahrenheit? Like 133 or something.
140°.
>> 140°. So, you got 140°, >> which isn't that much when you think about it, >> right? It's not boiling water, >> right? So, and and this is only good for 20 amps max.
>> Yeah. On a 12 for sure.
>> And it's really not the the amperage really uh we're trying to limit the amount of heat that we have on the wire. We're not trying to actually limit >> protect the wire.
>> Yeah. Yeah. If we if we have different insulation on our wire, we can actually go up to 75°C.
>> Yeah. TH.
>> So So it's not really the amperage is the problem as much as the insulation being the failure point. Um the more amps you put on it, >> the hotter it gets, >> the hotter it gets, right?
When we are waiting for a breaker to trip, we have an overload situation. So we have an overload situation. Let's say we're pulling 25 amps, right?
>> Right.
>> Uh where's my phone at? Oh, it's in my pocket. Um do this.
About how long does it Oh, hang on.
About how long does it take to trip a breaker, a 20 amp breaker on Romax when it's pulling 25 amps?
>> It typically takes 15 to 20 seconds.
Okay, so we've got uh I appreciate uh when Key is writing her first year apprentice exam, she's learning a lot fast. I appreciate that, Sman. Thanks for the uh Canadian $10.
Typically takes 15 to 100 seconds for a 20 amp thermal breaker to trip at 25 amps, right?
>> So, it's not instantaneous.
>> Uh so, it's going to take a minute for it to trip. What's happening is >> the wires are heating up.
>> This is seeing an overload thermally, right?
>> So, it's looking at an actual temperature.
>> Yes.
>> How do we get the heat to this breaker?
>> Through the wire.
>> Through the wire. Right. So, the wire itself is getting hot enough to heat sink.
>> If we take a uh if we have a razor blade.
>> Yeah.
>> I need fire. Fire.
>> Uh fire. I usually have fire in here.
Hang on. Oh, sorry, dog. Sorry, dog.
>> Hang on, guys. We need fire.
I don't see any fire. Hang on.
Uh, hang on, guys.
Hopefully I don't drop the string.
Maybe she put it back. Did she put it back? She did. Wow. I did not expect her to put this back.
Okay, we have fire.
Okay, so we have fire, right?
>> Um, hold that razor blade.
All right, it's >> going to get hot.
>> When is it going to get hot? Let me know when you start feeling the heat on your finger.
Starting to get warmer. It's >> starting to get warm, right?
>> Yep.
>> It's too hot yet?
>> No, I dropped it.
>> It's hot though, right? On your >> hot. Yeah.
>> You can feel the heat sinking, right?
>> Yeah. Not just yet, but it's getting there. Yeah.
>> So, so you're going to see the temperature difference go across this wire.
>> Yes.
>> All the way across. So, so what you're doing is >> This is going to be way hotter than this side is what you're saying.
>> This is going to be way hotter than this side. Exactly. By the time the heat gets here to drip this, this is hot as hell.
>> Yeah.
>> Right. And that's where you had the oxidation, you had the degradation of the connection itself.
>> Uh more heat equals more resistance.
More resistance equals more heat. And then more heat equals more oxidation.
>> And then it's just a vicious cycle, right?
>> So kids, try this at home. It's a learning point.
>> So yeah, this is way hotter than this breaker by the time it trips.
>> Thought of that. The the one thing you don't want to do at your house is let a breaker continue to trip. It's not a lifestyle.
>> No, >> it's a cry for help, man. It's it's a cry for help. You >> you really don't want overloads >> on your breakers. You should also replace your breakers that have had overloads before.
>> So, anytime that you are replacing or let's say we said, "Okay, well, this one's pulling 25 amps. So, let's add another circuit, another home run, and we're going to add another receptacle beside this. This is going to be the dedicated AC >> receptacle. You want to replace this breaker, replace this guy because this has been seeing all kinds of trouble.
>> And you want to replace this device.
That's about as good as you can do. And hopefully you haven't done permanent insulation damage to to your to your insulation.
Just increase the breaker amperage and call it a day.
Yeah.
Uh what do you mean? That's the only way for my skill saw to shut off when I cut concrete. I mean, it's time for a break.
When the breaker trips, that's that's why it's called a breaker, Apache. When the breaker trips, it's break time.
I like that. Just put a 30 amp in there.
Yeah, that will stop it from tripping, maybe.
>> So, yeah. Um, you you don't want to relate for your breakers to trip. You you want to be proactive with that.
Yeah, absolutely.
>> Um, yeah. So, um, how many years you've been doing, uh, electrical now?
>> Uh, three, but I don't have three years of on the job experience.
>> Okay. In Texas.
>> So, what do you have? Oh, yeah. In Texas, that's right. Uh, so what do you have for commercial now? Like 6 months.
>> Uh, a little over that cuz I did some commercial in, uh, Florida. I did like three months there and I've been here for about seven now where I'm at doing it. And uh so like 10 months, but I've been bending pipe since almost day one to learn and practice. You know, I bought my own benders and pipe and I'm pretty decent at bending pipe now.
So >> yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Throw that in that uh that tornado box over there.
>> Is it in the >> It's right here. tornado box right there.
>> Take the paint out of the plastic.
>> No, I just leave it in the plastic. It's fine.
>> He has he started in his Yeah, he's just start his Well, so you haven't gone to school yet?
>> No. Um I've taken some classes online.
>> When does school start?
>> I have not been told.
>> Okay. But you're planning on going to school?
>> Yeah, if they if they offer it to me.
>> Okay, sure. Throw those in the Lego container, please.
Yeah. So, I remember whenever I first started, I had to wait about six months before I could go to school. Um, when I was in the company, there it is.
We're in today. We can worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow, because it'll be today, where' I kidnap this kid from? So, so this guy reached out to me almost four years ago and he saw a couple of videos that I was doing. He was like, "Hey, are you hiring?" And I was like, I I'm not hiring. I I'm an electrical inspector, but I know every contractor in the metroplex, and uh if you want to be an electrician or you want to learn, uh I I could find you something somebody. And he happened to live like 10 minutes from me, so maybe 20. And uh so we got to talking and then I invited him over so I could vet him before I recommended him anywhere. And the dude's never on his phone. He helped me out with a lot of the remodel. Uh I don't know if I'd be alive or have my sanity uh without this guy and he continues to help me out and Yeah. So I got him I don't know two jobs now, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Two different jobs. This one's uh both were really good.
>> Both are really good.
>> Both were really good. Both were really good. This one's >> pretty amazing though.
>> Yeah.
>> This is This is where I would go. You're you are where I would be if I wasn't doing uh inspections. Yeah.
>> Whiteboard.
A bigger breaker today is a bigger problem tomorrow.
>> That's >> driving around the van.
You want to be a sparky? I have kittens and candy. Get in.
>> That's funny.
Wiggos are awesome. Been using them lately. They're okay.
They're okay.
Um, all right. So, what what are you rocking right now? You still rocking that 12vt Milwaukee I gave you?
>> Yeah.
>> And it's holding up.
>> Yep.
>> I ended up getting a new one, but I don't use it cuz of the other cuz the one you gave me, I still use that every day.
>> Okay. So, your Fuel 12VT Milwaukee has been going on strong for 3 years.
>> Yeah. Heavy use.
>> Heavy use. Yeah. I I don't doubt it.
>> Heavy use. I I mean, I used to slap uh you know, the spade bits on them and just start drilling through wood every day.
>> Where where do you keep it? Do you clip it to your tool belt or you just throw it in an open pocket?
>> Right now, so I used to keep it in my tool belt.
>> I I I'll show I'll show you this.
>> This This is me. Keep talking.
>> I used to have it sitting in. I have clipped it to the side. I've clipped it to my belt. Depending on what I'm doing, >> right?
>> Right now, because it's it's a nighttime job, no one's there.
>> I keep it in a tote, >> right?
>> And then when I need it, I take it out.
But I I don't really need it that often.
>> So, ah, give me Okay. So, this is the clip, right? Um, >> right.
>> When you hook it to your belt, like you got to like >> Yeah. find it, right? You can't just set it down, right? You have to pay attention where it's at >> and then because of where it's at, if it'll ever go on >> when you're squatting and stuff, it's kind of like >> have a bit on it, it could stab you, >> right? Right. Yeah. We haven't put a bit on it yet. Let's let's put a bit on it so we can stab oursel. Right. So, >> all right. So, we got our bit on. So, it it rides. Okay. But what's what's your actual thought about this? Because I've I've got real world experience just like you do.
>> I don't carry appendix. I carry on my side of my hip on my right hand.
>> Yeah. So, you got a Okay. So, you clip it to the side of your pouch like this and tear the side of your pouch up.
>> Yeah. But I have a pouch that I can stuff the whole thing in.
>> Exactly. Yes. So, you have a pouch you can put the whole damn thing in because the belt clip sucks balls.
>> Yeah.
>> So, if we if we had like an actual belt clip, dude, >> I've dropped so much.
>> Oh, man. All you got to do is just I mean, you don't have to look, you know?
It it just rides right there. Well, whatever you're doing, you can >> you can clip this >> climbing up the ladder. I've dropped my 12vt and having it hooked on my belt like that.
>> Yeah.
>> So, that's why I stopped doing it >> on on your back.
>> Yeah. Anywhere really. If it's on the front, it'll you'll bump it and it'll >> Right. Right.
>> Stop carrying it like that.
>> Yeah. In in transport, I would say Yeah.
Uh what happens with me, especially if I get like a bunch of things and I'm doing like a bunch of things, >> Yeah. Yeah. I actually tend to set a lot of tools on top of my pouch sometimes too where you're working on something, you set something down for a second. Do you ever set something like that?
>> No, I've never done that.
>> Don't start that.
>> You drop it.
>> Don't No, no, you don't drop it. It's just now I can't reach anything else.
>> Okay. Okay.
>> You see what I'm saying? So >> So this this is a habit that you want to avoid because sometimes you'll be working on something and damn, it makes a nice shelf because it's like >> I don't want to have to find where my pliers go again. I can just set them right there >> and I can keep right. It's not going to go anywhere, >> but it makes a really nice shelf. I can pick them right back up. I don't have to I don't have to actually like reach out here >> re regrab them to do whatever I'm doing.
They just they sit right there and I can pick them straight up.
>> That is a habit you do not want.
>> Gotcha.
>> That's that's a bad thing, dude. Don't Don't ever set your tools.
>> And sometimes it'll sit like just right.
>> Sometimes if I'm using them a lot, I'll throw them in the back pocket.
>> Yeah. And then uh if I'm in the panel, I'll sit them in the panel because it's dead when I'm making it up. Just some some tools. But >> So, what what are you rocking right now for your uh >> I'm just doing a tote. I haven't really put a tool bag on much cuz I have to climb. We're getting We just, you know, run five circuits.
>> Yeah. This thing's on there panel.
>> Um >> have you ever seen that? Have you tried it?
>> I have not. You got to you got to put that on.
>> So, it goes on your belt or or whatever you got.
I >> actually like that.
>> Yeah, it's pretty comfortable, right?
>> Yeah, it is.
>> And then it just kind of clips wherever.
>> That is cool.
>> Yeah.
>> I wanted to start getting more fine stuff. I have the little like $19 bag, $15 bag.
>> Yeah. You seen the mad packs?
>> Uh, yes. I have seen the backpacks. I've seen the >> the mad packs.
>> Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> You want this one?
>> There you go. There you go.
>> What? What do I Oh, damn.
>> So, so that's that clips on anything.
>> Yeah. Yeah. This pouch would be useless without it.
>> God.
>> I mean, not useless, but you would have to put on >> You would have to put a belt on.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh Apache likes the pouch. I did a video on this. Uh it's not on here, though, man. It's It's like four weird numbers or something. I don't think that's it.
VN66 690. Interesting. Um, >> thanks, man.
>> I I do like this pouch, though.
>> Yeah.
>> And the mad pack fits on it really nice.
I can't give you this pouch.
>> No, no, you're good. You're good.
>> I got this one at the supply house.
>> I have a ton of pouches >> not that long ago.
>> Um, >> this is awesome, man.
>> Yeah, that's yours.
>> Thank you.
>> That's yours now. And then it kind of fits kind of like a almost like a holster, man. Like it it's it's really really comfortable.
>> Really nice. Yeah, it it it feels amazing.
>> As soon as it's set, I it I didn't feel it any more.
>> Yeah. And then these things here get a little bit of aggressive. You can always file them down to your liking.
>> Got you.
>> Um would you still recommend that CLC medium zip top pouch? I got it on Amazon cart. Can't decide on pulling the trigger. Let's go find it.
We're not getting anything done.
Oh, I went on vacation after we talked about this pouch.
Oh, here it is. Here. Um, here. Catch this. I got to grab some tools.
>> Here, let me hand you some of this stuff, too.
There you go.
And let's grab a uh uh a full size.
Okay.
All right. So, oh, we already got the mad pack on it.
Okay. So, this clips up right here. Clip that for me.
That's a That's a zip top.
And then so it's got these little loops in the front here. Little elastic ones.
>> Oh, nice.
>> Um we got The question is, is it actually going to zip up? You know what I mean? Like I don't I don't think it is. I think >> I don't think with that one there will >> this would have to go.
>> I don't know. The problem with this is like the screwdriver storage. Um I I really I'm really liking this pouch because of the wire nut storage.
>> Ah >> and then you've got these kind of this is pretty big for channel locks.
>> Yeah.
>> So I feel like Hang on. I don't I want to keep those nice.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Uh hold that still for a second.
Yeah, that's nice.
I don't know if I like this one as much.
>> Somebody asked me about it, so I bought it just to try it out.
>> It's kind of cool, but you know what's going to happen?
It's going to get really heavy really quick with how many damn pockets it has.
>> Yeah.
>> It almost has too many pockets for its own good because it's like, >> what are you trying to achieve here? You know what I mean, >> right? That's like the tough built master electrician one.
>> Yeah, exactly.
>> Uh >> oh, that's that's actually not true and >> foreman I work with, he has one. He doesn't wear it on his hip. He packs it with tools, puts it on a cart, >> right? It's probably great for that.
It's probably great.
>> He has everything he needs in just one little bag.
>> Yeah, that didn't go down near as deep as I thought it would. That's what she said.
Um, >> all right, let's try this.
>> I don't know.
>> I don't know, man. I don't know. I don't also I also not a fan of the slop on that tape measure right there either. I need it to be tighter because that's going to >> Mhm.
>> flop down. See that right there?
>> It's going to eventually fall off.
>> Well, see how it's trying to turn upside down, right? Like I turn this I could turn it inside out already.
And it's not even used.
>> Yeah.
Um, it's okay. Uh, it's okay.
>> I don't think you'd kill yourself if you if you bought it.
>> Uh, you know, you would do a lot of justifying. It's not going to hold any bits. Uh, okay. So, it will hold bits here. So, um, we could take a bit, drop that in there.
>> Nice. I like I like having a spot for bits.
>> Yeah, that's kind of a must. Um, I would say I would say no. I would say no. Don't get this.
>> Pull the trigger.
>> How much is this?
>> 30.
>> How much is the client?
>> 22, $30, something like that. Yeah.
>> This This just has a little bit more going for it because >> the wire nut storage cuz so many times you need to have them.
>> Well, not just that. You can put bits, you can put all kinds of stuff in. Yeah, you can.
>> Actually, what was hiding in here was my uh >> I usually have this in my car cuz I let contractors borrow the uh tap bits cuz they're always failing >> on the rooftop. I'm like, "Yo, stop using soft tappers." So, I let them borrow so they can send me a picture of a of a bonding screw. And um >> yeah, that fits in there. But what's cool about this is that you can actually stick >> drilling, >> you know, something in there. Yeah, it's a must because Milwaukee just kind of forced us to have to have something.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, you know, >> but yeah, I like the screwdriver storage. The last pouch that I did was lacking screwdriver storage.
>> Mhm.
>> And we had to put something inside of it to make up for it.
>> You can also put something inside of here to make up for the screwdriver storage >> or or whatever you're trying to do.
>> Um, it's also pretty lightweight, too. I >> I liked it. It felt good on the hip.
Magnog Grip makes a sick pouch. Let me find the model number. All right.
No worries, Peter.
No pouch is complete without the Kipex Cobras. Love that CLC. Don't overload it. Yeah, don't overload it. That's the thing. I bought that climb bag with the pocket in the front and the mad pack because of you. I love them. It was an absolute bee to attach the mad pack to it, though. Yeah, I agree. Uh, you got to have some pretty strong fingers and and lots of willpower, but it's doable.
>> Um, hold this.
So, this is the relaxed state of it.
Yeah. To to attach this thing, you have to you have to really slide this back like this and then and then snap it like that. But you got to have like super strong fingers to uh to snap it because if not it's like >> oh man it's it's not easy that you know that that puts dents in my fingers just doing it.
>> Get some get some cobras and put some uh paper towels on the on the jaws.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
Missed it.
>> The D-rings in the way.
>> There we go. I got it. I got it.
>> Not bad.
>> Yeah, that's not bad. Um I'm liking that pouch a lot. You didn't see my last pouch, though.
This thing's badass, dude.
Uh, we need we need covers in here.
There's a lot of places we can put them, too. Okay, try that out. Put that on. Do you have a belt on?
>> No.
>> Oh, >> well.
>> Oh, okay.
>> You You can mad pack it. You can just clip the mad pack to it or you can clip it on, but it's Yeah, you can throw it in your pocket.
>> If I had a belt, it would uh >> No, you're good.
It would be a little bit better. I got one on it.
>> It's a little heavy.
>> It's a little heavy, but it's not bad.
>> It's got everything you need. So, you wouldn't be running all this at the same time. You're not going to run, >> right?
>> You're not going to run two pairs of channel locks and a uh a center punch and, you know, strippers, whatever. You you would you're not going to need diagonals while you're running pipe. You know, you're going to need a razor knife, two channel locks, uh, two levels, and some clients for beating. Beating screwdriver.
>> That's it.
>> Uhoh. Hey, I'm live. I can call you back.
Right back.
Have rigid batteries. Uh, where's the other mad pack at?
Yeah. So, this this thing's kind of cool cuz you can um just kind of sneak it on there. It's not the best, >> right? But it'll work.
>> Oh, no. It works great. Now, you can put that on there.
Magnip pocket maintenance pouch. Uh send me the uh What's up, Corey?
I made that look too easy.
Yeah.
Yeah. The finger strength, man. Being in the field, you get you get stupid strong fingers.
Bought that climb bag. Okay. Yeah, that's Parmesan.
It's like kicking your ass over there.
>> Yeah.
>> The little clips on the >> Yeah.
>> This is the one that I keep in my car.
>> All right. No, that feels fine.
>> Yeah. So, it's it's loose.
>> It's a little heavy, but it's not bad.
>> It's loose. Like the mat pack's not ideal for that. But it's it's okay.
>> It's easy on and off. But this thing has its own clips.
>> Y >> and then it's really made for like the vest.
>> Yeah.
>> It's It's kind of a cool deal. But like, dude, everything is in there that you would want.
>> And then this is a, >> you know, a separate thing yet. So, it's got two two slots there for levels, two slots there for channel locks. This thing's separate, so whenever it's loaded up, it's not pushing up against your body.
>> And then you've got, you know, everything else you'd want.
>> Yeah.
>> So, that's kind of my go-to right now.
Um, it's expensive, though.
>> Yeah, >> that pouch is like 140.
>> Damn.
>> Yeah, but they got a 5year warranty.
>> And, um, you know, it's diamond back.
>> Buy once, cry once.
>> I I want you to feel this here. I was looking at it.
>> Yeah. I want you to tell me what you think about it cuz it looks cheesy, right?
>> The little dent spots.
>> So, like overall, like what's the feel of it? Isn't that weird?
>> Yeah.
>> So, it it makes it more rigid with and it's still light, but it's also like >> it has a fl has give to it, but it won't just squish and get destroyed.
>> Yeah. This is this is genius. When I saw this on their picture on their website, it's hard to understand what this stuff is.
>> Yeah, >> this is really cool. I think this stuff is really cool.
>> Yeah, >> at first I was like, what the hell am I supposed to do with that? Like, that's just stupid. Am I going to hang stuff off of it? You know, >> it's it's for rigidity and um you know, the durability, but it also kind of stays to a certain shape, too, which is kind of cool. It's really interesting. And they outdid theirel with this one. Even even the the material here, like everything just feels like look down in there in between the level and see how thick that is up against the back of that leather.
>> Mhm.
>> It's it's a seriously high quality pouch.
Um, look at all these tools that fit in here. Man, it's wild.
>> Oh yeah, that's a Fessa. Remember Fessa?
>> That's pretty cool, right? Yeah, I like that.
>> So now you've got this and now this is your support pouch.
>> Yep.
>> So you just pull this out.
>> Yeah.
>> Your your your client's >> your beading screwdriver, whatever you got, >> your tape measure. One goes on this side right here, like this.
>> And then you get your other one.
>> Now your conduit material goes in here.
And now this thing's not so damn heavy.
And now you're >> Now put that on your hip. Now you're ready to run. Well, hang on. Hang on.
Hang on. Uh >> if you wanted to, >> right?
>> If you wanted to. Yeah, absolutely. This is a heavy drill, but >> right, >> you could. Uh >> is that the surge?
>> This is the surge.
>> Nice.
>> Do you want it?
>> I do. But >> do you want it, >> dude?
>> I'll let you borrow for a little bit.
Let me know what you think.
>> I do.
>> It's pretty freaking heavy, dude. Feel it.
>> Yeah, it's heavy as hell.
>> Oh, yeah, it is. You There's uh I've worked in places like um like the federal building and stuff and they don't like noise a lot of time.
>> Yeah. So, it's uh it's honestly like uh awesome to have in the >> Oh, nice, Chad.
>> Delete University. They didn't want any saws.
>> Dude, I I'll let you borrow it, but dude, this thing's got serious problems.
Uh see how the spring is like horribly exposed there.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> If you run this next to metal studs, >> they're really thin. Oh, dude, it'll it'll rip the spring. It rips the spring right out of it.
>> Damn.
>> There you go. Now, put the Well, just feel the weight of it.
>> Okay.
>> And then you've got this. That's why I like this setup cuz now you got one for this hip.
>> You got one for that hip. And now it's like even. You can't break it anyway.
>> Oh, you're still going to rock it with the mad pack.
>> I like to be able to move it.
>> Yeah. I I haven't decided cuz I haven't been able to actually like work work with it, >> right?
>> So, um I don't want to >> have a bias on whether or not I actually like it moving or not. I don't know. I feel like I do.
>> I feel like it's nice sometimes when you got to get your cell phone out and it's underneath something or >> Oh sh That's a very good point. Getting your phone out while you're wearing a pouch has always been a nightmare.
>> Yeah.
>> Serge is actually wonderful for electrical work. Yeah.
>> See here.
Yeah. I'm going to let you borrow the surge.
>> That's awesome. And then uh and then uh yeah, let me know cuz it is it's very heavy. It's very heavy compared to >> the normal 12.
>> Well, this is an old school this is fairly heavy cuz this is like old technology, >> right?
>> With a battery now. Now feel that. And then tell me >> way topheavy.
>> It's crazy. It's insane.
>> That's cuz of the hydraulics.
Even Even the 850 Even the 850 is lighter and it's got three times the Yeah.
>> Oh, yeah, it is.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, wow.
>> Is uh >> It's without a battery, of course.
>> Right. Right. Well, this one doesn't have a battery either, >> right?
And it's got a bigger clip.
>> Yeah, the belt clip always the the That's why DeWalt's got it in spades, man. The the the DeWalt clips are good.
>> Which one is this? Is this the one that's quiet, too?
>> No, the one that's quiet is similar to this only like 2 oz more and it's in the other room.
>> Black, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> You got to love how Milwaukee like they designed their stuff to where you can't even barely get the damn pool off and it's like, "All right, what configuration are can we even do, you know?"
>> Yeah.
>> And then this thing, I had to make this attached to this. This thing doesn't even attach to this plate. Yeah.
>> Even though it's pack out. Yep.
>> And that's pack out.
I had to build a stupid clip just to make that thing snap to it. And this is probably one of the coolest mods on the on the wall.
>> I got the uh the flex stack pack.
>> Yeah.
>> I got the the quick attach rail thing.
>> Okay.
>> A little wire pull wheel so you can put the put spools of wire on it which only holds up to 35 lbs I think. But >> works pretty good.
>> Yeah.
>> Nice.
We got to put we got to put the stuff back.
>> I haven't needed it uh recently during the night shift and stuff, but I'm kind of getting spoiled at the night shift.
>> Yeah, >> like bad spoiled, man. It's awesome.
>> That's funny.
>> It's It's awesome. So, the plumbers work one night and they do maybe 3 hours of work just using a little monkey wrench, tightening something, put some pipe dope on it. 30 grand is what Chipotle is paying them >> for one night. About three hours of work for one person.
>> Dang.
>> I was like, "Oh my god, >> that's amazing.
>> I don't know what they're charging them for us."
>> Yeah. Don't Don't repeat anything that I got to take down on the uh >> Yeah. No, no, I got I don't know what they're charging them for us, but >> Yeah.
>> Uh >> have you Have you played with this one?
>> Yeah. I don't really care for those. I like them. They're fun, >> but I always if I'm in too much of a hurry and I don't do it right, I end up stabbing someone's finish.
>> Yeah.
>> So, >> yeah. For finish, they're uh not ideal.
Right.
>> The first foreman I worked with, Gustavo. Have you seen him lately?
Gustavo?
>> No. Not lately.
>> Uh I liked him. I only worked with him for like a week.
>> Talking about EMS or Yeah.
>> And uh he was the first guy I was under and he had one of those.
>> You tightened the piss out of that, bro.
I didn't mean to.
>> No, you're good.
>> Yeah, there you go.
>> I'm that guy that you hate when you show up after.
>> Hey, you didn't use an impact.
>> Nope.
Never use an impact on a panel.
>> Ever.
>> That's advice for a apprentice.
>> Took out the con 7 tool pock belt. $18.
It's good. All right. I'll probably check it out.
All right. Uh, one more thing and then we're going to get out of here. Uh, I was explaining this to somebody right today.
They they didn't have a ground inside of their pipe.
>> Okay?
>> So, when you don't have a ground inside your pipe, like let's say we're using an LB, right?
>> Okay. So, we're using an LB and we put a chase nipple inside which is it's it doesn't have lock rings. It just it just kind of tightens up inside there.
>> Okay.
>> Um they're not listed for grinding and bonding. Right.
>> Got you. So if if this is if this is metal and the pipe coming down is also metal and we have no EGC, that's not going to work, right? Because you you're going to have to put you're going to have to put a close nipple on there, which is all threads, and then you're going to have to put a bonding bushing on there. That's a pretty damn good bonding bushing, actually.
>> Yeah. And and then you're going to have to run from here to your bonding bushing. This is your ground bar >> to to give this a reference to ground because the pipe is the ground. Yes.
>> Right.
>> So >> I was explaining to somebody why that's relevant >> and uh do do you know how this all works?
>> Uh I've heard about it. I've never actually practiced.
>> So So if we have a transformer here and this is our neutral.
>> Okay. And this is our 120 volt leg. And this is our other 120 volt leg. It's singlephase. It's it's it's singlephase split >> by a neutral. So it's still one phase, but you got two legs of 120, right?
>> This is going to be the main breaker here.
>> And this is going to be the utility transformer.
>> Yep.
>> Utility, right?
>> Yep.
>> And this is our neutral here. Yeah.
>> And if we were to have a receptacle down here and we had a branch breaker and this is a branch breaker and it feeds a receptacle. We're we're only going to draw the the the simple stuff, right?
>> And we have this as a ground wire that goes to our ground bar.
>> Mhm.
>> Over here, this connects to >> each end. Yeah.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> Goes to the neutral, right?
>> Yeah, the neutral does go to the neutral. I drew it right here to the 120. There we go. And the neutral, the neutral goes to >> the neutral. There we go. We did it. Um, what happens is if we have a short to the case, >> right, >> the current is going to go to the ground wire.
>> Yep.
>> And then because it's our service, our grounds and neutrals are bonded together >> and the current's going to go back to the neutral >> trigger. And then it comes back on the hot to get to this breaker to trip this breaker.
>> That's all happening in seven cycles. So we got 60 cycles in a second. We're going to try to do this in seven cycles.
>> Yeah.
>> Um you know pretty >> Yeah. pretty pretty fast.
>> Uh the thing is whenever you're dealing with the service side, we don't have main breakers to trip. So the fault current, the clearing time, all that stuff is it's not there's no breaker to stop it.
You see what I'm saying? So that's why you have arc flashes on your main and your larger equipment. Okay.
>> Versus on your branch. On your branch breaker, you have a little pop. You have a little spark >> breaker trips. Over here, you have massive explosions.
>> Wow.
>> And that's because it takes way more cycles >> to to go back through because you don't have a breaker to interrupt, >> right? There's nothing to >> the current. Yeah. There's nothing to eliminate. Exactly.
Uh, you didn't get the email as long as you got your stuff.
Yeah, Rodney.
Yes, Souge Man. It's good to see you.
Any Crocs in the pouch? Yes, Crocs are in the pouch right here.
Crocs are also on the feet.
All right, guys. I got to get something done. Um, we got to go. So, appreciate the uh hang out. Uh what's what's your best advice real quick?
>> Uh just in general.
>> Yeah.
>> Show up every day on time. Don't be on your phone. Whatever the foreman says, that's the right way to do it cuz that's how he wants it done. Don't argue. You be humble. Know you know less than them.
And show up with a positive attitude.
>> There you go. All right, guys. We'll see you later.
