After a cooler week, warmer weather returns for Memorial Day weekend

[00:00:00]And we've got a much more active night of weather here, at least in terms of getting some rain and some beneficial moisture. Not so much when it comes to severe threats like what we saw yesterday on the eastern plains. Now, we have seen a few lightning strikes into PBLO County this afternoon so far, and some isolated thunderstorms remain possible through this evening. Main threats are going to be lightning, small hail, gusty winds, and I think most of this ends between 1000 p.m. and midnight tonight. All right, take a look at the satellite radar composite. We have a nicely organized disturbance coming out of southwestern Colorado. And most of the rain tonight, it's going to fall along and south of I7. Getting some good showers already into the mountain areas.

[00:00:38]Some high elevation snow above about 11 to 12,000 ft. As we zoom in with our live local radar, generally just some rain falling into PBLO and PBLO West, but you notice on the hourloop a few of those lightning bolts being picked up on just south of Lake PBLO about an hour ago. Up north here in the Pikes Peak region, some lightly scattered showers in town. Most of the heavier bands of rain falling up towards Monument Hill, Black Forest, and the Peyton area. Right now, 61° in Colorado Springs. Looks like it's dry for the time being in downtown.

[00:01:09]That will likely change later this afternoon and this evening. 65 on the map in PBLO with some lower 70s out into the eastern counties, mid60s around Walsenberg. Let's walk you through your Friday night date night plans on the eve of this holiday weekend. You can see by around 6:15 again, showers and storms developing across the area. Everything's going to move west to east and there could be a few areas where we see concentrated bands of heavier rain like this one right around sunset tonight just south of Lahont and maybe some heavier showers up towards the Palmer Divide. Now, I said most of it wraps up between 10 and midnight, but the model brings in a secondary round of showers around Monument Hill between midnight and 2 am. Certainly by Saturday morning, skies have cleared out. Now, on Saturday, the next disturbance that rolls in struggles because there's not a lot of moisture left over in the atmosphere. So, I think storms are going to be very hit or miss across the region. Probably favoring the Pikes Peak region where they'll be very spotty.

[00:02:07]Probably a better chance is going to be down towards the Raton Mesa where some of those storms as they move into Baka County could reach low and severe limits. Areas in green down in that part of the state seeing a marginal risk of severe weather for the day on Saturday.

[00:02:21]1-in hail, 60 mph gusts would be the main threats. Now temperatures begin to warm tomorrow after a cool and unsettled week of weather here. Saturday's highs up around 70 in the Springs and into the upper 70s in PBLO. Overnight lows still on the chilly side of average for us cooling down to the 30s and 40s. There's your Saturday forecast flirting with 80 in Lahont and PBLO, 75 in Kangan City and 70 in the Springs. As we look at that Memorial Day weekend forecast statewide other than Saturday for I25, we should be dry most of Sunday into Monday. For the mountains, if you're planning time there, chance of showers Sunday and Monday out towards Telleluride. Now in the springs over the next seven days, I think we dry out for a few afternoons and then we reintroduce a chance for showers in the midweek period. In PBLO, upper 70s tomorrow with middle to upper 80s Sunday to Monday.

[00:03:12]Mostly sunny skies expected both those afternoons. In Kangan City, it'll be mostly sunny Sunday, but increasing clouds Monday with a few showers possible in the hills and the mountains around town and then a better chance for storms here Tuesday to Wednesday. In Woodland Park, nearly a daily chance of showers and storms.
