The Surgeon General's advisory warns that excessive screen time harms children and adolescents, as the prefrontal cortex—the brain region critical for cognitive function—continues developing until age 26, and unlike previous generations who learned through books, writing, and outdoor activities, Generation Z and Alpha have never known life without screens, raising significant developmental concerns.

Surgeon General's Warning: Screen Time Harms Children & TeensAjouté :
I don't know what if you saw the new advisory of the Surgeon General that just came out on the warnings of the harm of screen use in children and adolescents.
This was a priority of President Trump and Secretary Kennedy and the Maha Commission that was established last year as you saw. And this is actually delineated for the office of Surgeon General to come up with an advisory. So we spent all of our time coming up with the latest greatest rigorous research and compiled it together and came out with a great advisory and toolkit.
>> Mhm. What does the evidence say regarding uh lots and lots of screen time with prefrontal >> So the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that you really uh rely on for a lot of cognitive function, is usually finishes developing at age 26. So although we might have watched TV when we were a child, we learned school with books and paper and writing. We were able to have screen-free time with writing our bike outside and getting sunshine in our eyes and not being stuck on a computer and a cell phone. This generation Z and Alpha are two generations that will have known life with never known life without it, actually. And so that is very concerning.
