The analysis effectively exposes how the show has traded narrative substance for cheap shock value and tonal incoherence. It is a sharp deconstruction of a series that has prioritized superficial provocation over character integrity.

The Middle Seats Highlights - The Boys Finale Was Nothing But Pure GarbageAjouté :
Hello there everyone. This is just a small segment from the Middle Seats podcast hosted by Generation Offended, Tola Talks, and myself. If you enjoy what you see, feel free to head over and check out the full episode. If you enjoy that, maybe check out some of the other episodes. And if you want to engage with us, feel free to check out our Discord.
Most of all, I just hope you have a great day, and hopefully you'll enjoy the video. So, the episode starts off with Kamiko uh crying over Frenchie's funeral, and we see the group kind of Oh, I want to say they're mourning, but they're cracking jokes the entire time.
It kind of takes away from the from the sad element of the scene. Uh, what do you guys think about the opening scene here?
>> Oh, there's so many characters who have had such like had so many more respectful like sendoffs compared to this. Like this is a main character and twothirds of the funeral scene is talking about buttholes.
Like come on. Like that's so bad. And on top of that, you've got [ __ ] Sage just stood at the background like a [ __ ] >> We both brought that up in our videos.
I'm like, what is she doing? Like just >> who invited this person?
>> Yeah. Why is she not back at the house?
>> I guess she has like a nice sentiment.
She she invited uh to Frenchie to have some fun time with her last episode. So maybe that was enough to get an invitation to the funeral.
>> Well, it the biggest thing for me is and for the the folks that are watching, yes, we have like a over here over here.
We do have a new oncreen element. So, um I'm able to get the show. So, if you like this presentation, let us know. Or if you want us to go back to where it's just us on screen, we can do that as well. Um, for me, I mean, Dumar brought up the whole, you know, [ __ ] and all that. It was it was a massive tonal shift because you go from the end of episode 7 where like Frenchie is dying in her arms and it's supposed to be emotional. I didn't give a [ __ ] I don't think you guys gave a [ __ ] but it was supposed to be emotional and like very grounded. You know what I'm saying? Like everyone's sad and then we're right back to the ridiculous [ __ ] at the beginning of episode 8 and we're talking about buttholes. It's like, oh [ __ ] It's like come on, man.
Yeah, the show has a chronic problem of uh put inserting any kind of like sexual humor into any scene that they can and everyone talks like a [ __ ] 17-year-old Reddit user at this point.
Um it what pisses me off is that, you know, so typically in a comedy or like comedic show or film, you have one character who's it's their gimmick to be sexual deviants, right? Think of like Deadpool for example, right? where Deadpool's cracking all the jokes, he's being weird, and then he's always got someone to bounce off of who's very stoic or cold. Like, he's got Wolverine, Colossus, or u the [ __ ] uh I can't remember the guy in the second film there. Anyway, uh >> Cable. Yeah, he's got Cable. So, they're all like, you know, the same kind of character he can like make fun of and they just don't react. But in The Boys, everybody's got the same [ __ ] humor.
It's like nobody stands out because they all do the same [ __ ] shtick, which is I'm going to make a dick joke every 5 seconds. Like Annie, who's also like this [ __ ] Presbyterian nun essentially, like pageant girl who shows up who show like that's her back her back nun.
>> She's like a that's her like backstory, right? She's like this pageant girl, super religious, all that. There was such an opportunity for her character to be like a huge contrast to The Boys where she could have been like the one to be like, "Ew, like I'm not going to talk about explicit references. I get kind of grossed out by that stuff." Be a bit of a Puritan that would have contrasted so well with a character like Frenchie who's like obviously this weird like sexual deviant. Um, but anyway, I I think they just kind of reduce all the characters to being so similar at this point because they all the same sense of humor. Not one of them is able to like not make a dick choke every two seconds.
Like [ __ ] Kamiko even does it now.
So, >> oh my god. I mean, I I don't mind gross stuff. Like I don't that's my kind of humor. But it's like in in any good comedy, they know when to kind of let up, you know, pump the brakes a little bit. And this show never does.
>> It's called overfucking saturation.
That's what this [ __ ] show does. It's not shocking if you keep shocking everybody every 3 seconds. You have to >> Oh my god. And that's why the show keeps getting so weird is because they have to keep raising the bar because the [ __ ] bar is so high now. Like they've already hit the ceiling. So like they're like, "Okay, we have to add a Huey rape scene twice in season 4 because you know we're not making this weird enough anymore.
>> We want to make sure you got it."
>> Yeah. Yeah. Like Butcher only dies because of Huey.
>> Because of Huey. Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Homelander spent five seasons chasing these people and only managed to kill one. Yeah, exactly. Huey, Huey and Homelander have equal kills on the boys, if that makes any sense to anyone.
>> Yeah. And then especially you got like the empty suit that is MM over here [ __ ] like sitting there all somber and [ __ ] Like he does nothing for this entire season. He did nothing for the plot. Kill him too. Absolutely kill MM.
>> Yeah. It's [ __ ] h It's so [ __ ] dumb, man. Like the only thing he's done this season is uh kill big schlong man and then he's done basically he he's done basically nothing else and then last episode he talked about a pigeon and then this episode he just >> he doesn't do much.
>> I keep I keep laughing because just look at your sister Sage back here.
Who invited Blood?
>> Blood thinks he's on the team.
>> Olly, >> she's such a sad sack.
>> What a [ __ ] weird camera shot. By the way, like it's just a massive empty space on the left that has nothing in it.
>> Yeah, the entire thing, like you summarized, season 4 sets up the conflict with Homelander regime. Genv season 2 is all about her gathering a resistance and then at the end they're like legitimately like we're joining the rebellion. We're gonna have a resistance. War is coming. It's going to be a war. And then [ __ ] nothing because they do this stupid time jump where it's like a year's gone by. And she apparently has done all these terrible things and she's had to make a tra terrific amount of sacrifices in order to stop bot that's done nothing.
>> I'm trying to stop genocide. I'm so painful. Like, shut up, man.
>> Well, I mean, >> homeman has got [ __ ] concentration camps and she's whining because she's stopping them. I get a [ __ ] grip woman.
>> The secret farmhouse with the Gen B characters.
This This blew my mind. What do you guys think of this? So, Hueie, the boys are essentially hiding out this farmhouse.
The Gen B characters do a little cameo.
Marie Maro and Starlight have a nice little chat as well. Please give me your takes. I have a lot to say here, but go ahead.
>> I I'll let Lumar take the bulk of the conversation, but I'll start off first and say, you see Jordan Lee's face here?
That was mine while watching this. Go ahead, Lumar.
>> That's just Jordan Lee's face.
Jordan Lee could watch our [ __ ] family get shot in FRONT OF HIM.
I MEAN, it looks like a [ __ ] octopus [ __ ] impales him through his ass and comes out his mouth.
>> Oh god. Basically, >> why?
>> Well, that's what everyone's saying cuz they're like, "Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's deep and and he can survive bullets, so it went up his anus and >> Oh, that's exactly what happened. It went up his ass."
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. So, that's >> the the scenes kind of collide in here quite a bit because there's like three different things happening at one time.
So, I'm not going to go too far ahead.
We'll talk about it and just kind of I can go back and forth, but go ahead.
>> No. Yeah. I I think that the whole hive mind fish thing is mind like the that that is canon. The the [ __ ] sea is a hive mind.
They're like >> Yeah. Like how how would the fish in the lakes and the ponds know about what happened in the sea? Like Yeah, you're actually correct. That's [ __ ] stupid.
>> It's did it.
>> Yeah. They're all the Borg.
>> Oh, god damn it, dude. It's >> Well, it wasn't it wasn't even that. Uh, Blumar, you I think you brought this up or somebody in your comment section uh brought up that didn't like the um the the the killer squid or octopus, whatever the hell bring up the [ __ ] octopus that was [ __ ] >> That's That's another thing. It's like, all right, throughout this whole season, him and [ __ ] Noah have a [ __ ] conflict or whatever, and then Noir breaks the pipeline, and Deep had endorsed the pipeline. And I guess the fish knew about his endorsement, and when it breaks, they blame him. And obviously in the previous episode, the shark, voiced by Sam L. Jackson, he tells, "We know about the oil pipeline, motherfucker." And yeah, you know, that's like that's the whole thing.
That's what they've built up. And then they finally get their hands on the deep. They're crushing him to death.
They're about to rip him apart. And they're like, "We know what you did to Ambrosia." And it's like, "How the [ __ ] do you know what what he did to Ambrosia? She died in a closet."
>> All right, fine. Zechn.
>> Yeah. I It's actually kind of ridiculously uh like it's it's ridiculous how much time we can spend thinking about the dynamics of the fish in this [ __ ] universe because it makes no goddamn [ __ ] sense. And it's so [ __ ] Like the insinuation that sharks and [ __ ] octopuses have the intelligence to even have a conversation, let alone communicate with each other and have adult mature complex feelings towards humans is it's mind-blowing.
>> Well, and I've se I've seen so many people, but it's like sitting there listening to us talk, I understand where some folks are coming from, and let me explain it to you real quick. So, I've seen people say, "Well, you could sit back and and look at anything and nitpick it to death." I'm I'm sure you can, but here's the thing. These writers are making like $1,000 an hour, right?
If I paid a carpenter $1,000 an hour to come build me a bench, and he built the bench, but it's missing a [ __ ] ton of screws, do I have every right to be pissed? Same thing here. They told the story, but there's a bunch of [ __ ] missing, and I have every right to be pissed.
>> Yeah, fair analogy. Also though, also, >> not every [ __ ] show and and television series or any uh movie, in fact, like uh is like this. You you can't analyze every show and be like, "Oh, this is this is [ __ ] This is dog [ __ ] None of this makes any sense." No, you can't. They actually there's a lot of good world building and shows.
There's a lot of good character development shows.
>> We're all watching from >> Yeah, we're all watching from and uh yeah, lots of it makes sense and and can hold up to scrutiny. So, that's just not true. I don't believe that. You know, there are a lot of bad shows. You're right. And they can be comparable to The Boys in quality, but it doesn't mean that you can excuse the [ __ ] on your plate. Like, it's so [ __ ] dumb that Yeah. Like you said, like they're paid a lot of money to write this.
>> Mhm.
>> I would love you're paid for quality.
>> I want quality. Yeah.
>> But yeah, >> just like just like our our view our viewers expect quality out of us, we expect quality out of the writers.
Sorry, Lumar.
>> Yeah, that whole fish. Yeah, that is actually so [ __ ] dumb that they spend they The whole the whole rivalry between the the Deep and his fish friends is built up for one specific reason throughout this entire season. And then not only do they not use it, but the reason they give is for something they shouldn't know about which happened an entire season beforehand.
>> That's so weird. That's such a weird thing to do. Like if they forgot about it, fair. Like, you know, that's what I would expect. But not only did they just forget about the new reason, but they brought back a pe a previous reason that makes no sense.
>> You're hung up on the ambrosia.
>> Yeah, she died in a [ __ ] closet and then he got rid of her. Like, who the [ __ ] knows about that? No one.
>> Yeah, he he mentioned that in his video and I I I didn't catch it. I It wasn't in mine. I didn't catch it at all. So, I was like, that's actually a really good detail to include there, Lumar.
>> Yeah. No, that's that's definitely really true. It's You got a good point, man. That's [ __ ] It is [ __ ] stupid.
>> Yeah. Like Frenchie appears to her.
>> Oh yeah.
>> And it's like use the force or whatever the [ __ ] she says. He says like what the really in the middle of this really?
>> He he shows her he shows her how to missile strike. That's >> Oh god.
>> Yeah. I uh I I mean at least they gave him somewhat of a dignified final moment, you know? I don't give a [ __ ] about him.
>> I know. I know. But, you know, we were, just to be objective, we were complaining just moments ago about how >> Frenchie's [ __ ] funeral was completely disrespectful to his character. They at least somewhat bought that back. However, again, I'm not defending the show. Don't [ __ ] say I am in the comments. I'm just saying.
Wait, >> y'all got this man scared now.
>> I don't want to [ __ ] hear it. Do it.
>> Yeah. Um, so we get a nice little moment. However, bad timing. I don't want the fight to be interrupted by Frenchie because again, I don't care about his character. I'm just saying objectively. Yeah, whatever.
>> Oh my.
>> Yeah, it it definitely broke broke up the action. Yeah. And and here's the thing, and you guys you guys know I have the worst memory. I can't help it. Okay.
Um, we see that that Kimo has to funnel or I guess funnel her emotion in order to make this happen. Has there ever been an instance where Soulja Boy had to like get some emotion going in order to to be able to not we're not talking about like making I know >> earlier in the season they pissed him off to kill the Last of Us guy.
>> That was just to kill him. Have we ever seen Soulja Boy need to feel anger or need to feel sadness in order to use his powers?
>> Yeah. Well, when he initially uses it, it's his PTSD.
>> Okay. Okay. Okay.
>> Yeah. Actually, the first time Yeah.
>> It's Well, yeah. Yeah, I was just going to say it's a bit weird cuz the first time he uses it in season 3 on Kimo, he's just kind of waking up and it just sort of activates and then most of the other times we see it, it is the PTSD, but he also activates it on command whenever he wants as well. Um, >> and then season 4, like in in season 3, I I I was kind of thinking about this and I thought, oh, maybe is it his emotion cuz he uses it on Crimson Countess and he's really upset about how she abandoned him and then obviously he's got a lot of conflicting emotions going on when killing Homelander. So, I thought, oh, maybe it is emotional. But like two episodes ago, he used it on Bombsite and he was cool as a [ __ ] cucumber. So yeah, I I don't know.
>> I mean, he uses it in episode two without like emotion at all. It's he's when he's facing off against Butcher, he starts to use it and he throws the car on him.
>> Yeah. So he he I think he h I think it's both. I think he has complete control over it and it happens when he has PTSD or he's really upset.
>> Um so I guess you can kind of say it works whenever the whenever the writers want it to work and it works however they want it to work.
I just felt like that may be a little nitpicky or whatever, but I'm like why?
Like we stopped the scene for this. So it's like then you got to ask the question of well is that how the power works in general or is it just this just done for theatrics to bring Frenchy back in? You know what I'm saying?
>> Yeah. I mean I get I think it's a little bit excusable but let's acknowledge the fact that essentially the lesson she learns here is the same lesson Rose Tico says to Finn.
>> Oh god. The last Jedi, >> the power of Christ compels you.
>> It's the same thing. She's like, "It's not about fighting who we hate. It's about preserving what we love."
>> Yeah. The again, it's just this thing of they wanted to uh not bother with the story and the themes of the comic, so they've just done their own thing. And then they've run out of steam at the end, and they've realized, "Oh, [ __ ] The Homelander fight was really [ __ ] anticlimactic. Let's just throw in the butcher scene as well. And obviously it doesn't work because not only has it not been set up, but the reasons why the butcher turn in the comic works so well is not in here. So yeah, it's uh it's just [ __ ] It's just [ __ ] Well, again, this would have been a great time for Homelander to have this last word of like, you know, comeuppance for Butcher where he says something like, "Hey, um, you know, you can kill me, but you can't stop the soups." Or, "You can kill me." And this like, "It won't end anything. You're still going to want revenge, blah, blah, blah."
Something to [ __ ] stir Homelander a bit more than his [ __ ] dog dying and Ryan giving him the cold shoulder.
Anything more than that?
>> Well, we've I mean, you mentioned it a while ago. He made a good point talking about how and I mean we've seen this in the Matrix, we've seen this especially in comics, we've seen it with Batman and Joker, one cannot exist without the other. And so with Homelander dead now, that would have been a really cool characterization of like Butcher saying like, you know, I I have nothing to live for anymore. You know what I'm saying? I can't exist without the, you know, where where else am I going to put this anger?
But I think it all derives from like the stupidity of this just derives from that 15minute terror scene in episode four >> where Butcher changes his mind in the comics. He never changed his mind at all. As a matter of fact, he goes on a rampage and kills Lumar. You may have to correct me here. He kills Mm. Frenchie is still alive in the comics at this point. He kills Frenchie and he kills Kimo. He kills those three going into the the final part of the comics. He also kills uh Love Sausage because obviously he's a he's a Russian good soup in the comic instead of just being a big dick guy who shows up occasionally like it is in the show. And he also kills the legend because the legend has a lot of like knowledge and [ __ ] on him.
>> Y >> and uh yeah, it's just so weird because >> Yeah. So, the reason why it works in the comic is Butcher spends all this time hating Homelander. And then it turns out that not only was it not Homelander who did all the horrible things to Becca and ruined his life, but Vault can just replace both both Homelander and Noir whenever they want with another, you know, another thing that he's going to hate.
>> So, he's like, >> "I'm sorry, Becca. I thought I was going to do this for you, but it's just never going to end unless I kill all of the soups. Unless I just destroy Vault from the ground up. That's why he does it in the comics. And he knows that, you know, the rest of the boys and the legend and Love Sausage, they're going to go after him for doing that cuz it's genocide and that's too far for them. So, he starts to take them out. And again, the only reason he doesn't really go after Huie is because, you know, it's it, you know, they've they've got the the brother relationship thing there as well.
>> Yeah. He he never he never changes his stance. He stays it's it's all about I'm killing all soups through pretty much the entirety of the comics. So, the fact that they did that 15-minute terror scene where they peel back the layers and he talks about like, oh no, you know, I'll I'll [ __ ] not kill the soups or whatever the [ __ ] Like, I agree with you, Huey. That was completely irrelevant. It added nothing to the story.
>> Yeah, they should have just kept it like the comics where they they kind of point out how [ __ ] it is the butcher wants to do that and then he just kind of brushes it off and you know he doesn't try and make a big deal out of it. He still [ __ ] believes in it and he's going to do it, but he's just kind of brushing it to the side and making them forget.
>> That's not the mission right now.
>> Yeah. Uh, he also just he also just seems to have adopted Ryan, but that has never been >> Yeah, that just happens. I think the only the only scene they've had this season was in the Oval Office where Ryan gets he's knocked down and MM comes in and gets him back on his feet. That is literally the only interaction they've had this entire season, I think. And then yeah, he's just adopted him and he's just at the wedding and >> yeah, that was so I I brought this up in my video and I'm like Mm and his wife are are really good people because that kid on the screen is going to need therapy for the rest of his naturalb born life.
>> Dude, he's already a [ __ ] murderer.
Like he's killed both his mother figures. I'm surprised, you know, it wouldn't be surprised me if like, you know, in boy in the boys Mexico, you see a newspaper clipping of Ryan holding the [ __ ] head of MM's wife in his hands.
>> Wild. I didn't catch I didn't catch that at first until I rewatched the episode and I was like, "Wait a minute. Is that Ryan?"
>> Yeah.
>> I'm like, "What is he doing there? Hang on." I even put in the Discord. I'm like, "He talks about him leaving." I'm like, "Where you going?" It it didn't register with me that they had adopted him.
>> Dude, that [ __ ] that smug face there, that that little smile he's got. He's like, "I'm going to [ __ ] kill your wife. I'm going to [ __ ] kill you."
>> I don't know. I don't know if he's happy or trying to hold in a fart. What's What's happening?
>> No, he's I'm going to [ __ ] kill your wife, dude. I'm going to kill my next mom.
>> That's just such a weird thing. That's There's no foreshadowing or anything.
He's He's MM just drags him by the shoulder at the funeral and walks with him and then he's just part of the family.
>> Yeah. What about his girlfriend Zoe?
What happened to her? She's just gone from the plot, you know? I are they dating still? Like was What about that like relationship that they had established for no reason and then went nowhere?
You know, like that that whole thing with Ryan like you know, he's like, "Oh, I'm going to kill Butcher with you."
Goes nowhere. They never talk again. And they could have just had Butcher find Ryan on his own and had nothing to do with Zoe and it would have been fine.
Like they had no connection as characters.
>> Yeah, exactly. Oh my goodness.
>> I think that's what someone said in our Discord, which by the way guys, if you're not in the Discord, we we screw around a lot in there. It was like she finally found out she's pregnant and the first thing she does is fly off at Mach 10.
Yeah. I mean, I'm sorry. I mean, the deep fell off a whale and that knocked him unconscious. That baby is [ __ ] tomato paste by now.
>> Oh god. I mean, like, you have to think about the infant's perspective here. So, we got to hope that it's a soup because Yeah. Even if it is, it's going from, you know, it's going mock 10 against the steel wall that is her [ __ ] uterus.
Like she's that baby's [ __ ] just like wy coyote up against that [ __ ] stone in every episode of Bugs Bunny. It's just like completely flattened. It's going to turn into accordion when it comes
