Feels-like temperatures could get up to 114 degrees on Wednesday, July 22

[00:00:00]Turning things over now to our first alert meteorologist Nelly Cadena. We need to talk about the heat, Nelly. It's July. It's I guess we're moving into late-ish July now and and yeah, it's starting to act like summer.

[00:00:12]>> Exactly and it hasn't been too bad so far. Usually July is the driest month of the entire year. August is the second driest and we've had some rain during the first part of July, but now things will start to change. We're looking at a dry stretch, a very hot stretch and that's why we have a first alert weather day for today and also we're focusing on Wednesday. Doesn't mean that Tuesday and Thursday won't be hot, but on Wednesday we're looking at a heat index between 114 to 115.

[00:00:41]Extremely dangerous. So, what else can we expect? Well, triple digits all week and into next weekend. Heat index up to 114 on Wednesday, so we know Wednesday's going to be a doozy. Warm nights, little relief. So, usually we cool down a little bit at least, maybe into the mid upper 70s. The lows tonight 80, 81 and so we're not going to cool down at night very much. Please make sure that you take care of your pets out there. They get hot, too. Make sure they're getting water and shade and that you have them inside during this week. It's a very dangerous week. So, a heat advisory is in effect and through tomorrow 8:00, but that doesn't mean that Wednesday's okay.

[00:01:20]I think they're going to put warning for Wednesday or they're going to make sure that this goes through this advisory goes through Wednesday, but we're going to have either an advisory or a warning on Wednesday. Extremely hot today, tomorrow, Wednesday, over into Thursday as well. Right now, temperatures so you can see here, these are actual temperatures. 102, 99, 100 at DFW Airport and with the humidity, this is what it feels like. 107 in Dallas, 103, 104. Always good to check on your neighbors, too. Some people don't have air conditioner and right now it is extremely difficult. Now, you can see the dew points, the way that we measure the humidity in the air. Once it's in the 70s, it's extremely humid. In the 60s, it's a little muggy out there, but that's just enough to bring those temperatures even higher. So, this is what we're looking at. These are actual temperatures in the next couple of days.

[00:02:15]Tomorrow, 104, Wednesday, 106, on Thursday, 102 and 101 on Friday. But, with those dew points in the 60s, it's going to feel like 108 tomorrow, 114, possibly 115 over into Thursday, 107 and then 109 on Friday. I'm going through each one because I just really want you to know how hot it's going to be. Try to plan ahead. The radar, it's clean. We don't have any cloud cover. We don't certainly don't have any rain. As we look towards the south, everything's okay, but then we are watching this depression. It's called depression number two, but it could become Bertha later on this evening into the overnight hours or possibly tomorrow morning because it's moving very, very slowly. So, I want to show you the track for Bertha because a lot of people are talking about it and yes, it's headed towards the Texas coast. However, it's going to weaken by the time it gets to us. Let me explain.

[00:03:08]You notice where it is. Right now, the sustained winds are only 35 mph. It's going to move towards the west and it's going to reach us our coast around Friday into Saturday. It's going to push some cloud cover towards us, but really by the time it gets to us, it won't even be a tropical storm anymore. It will be just a low pressure system. And so, if we see any rain, it will be just a couple of sprinkles on Saturday and Sunday. We haven't even added it to the 7-day here because it's still so far away from us and moving about 3 to 5 mph. But, you can see here, dry and extremely hot in the next few days.
