In the early 15th century, Chinese Admiral Zheng He led massive maritime expeditions that reached the East African coast 70 years before Columbus's 1492 voyage, bringing back exotic animals like giraffes for the Ming Emperor; these voyages were conducted for trade purposes rather than conquest, and the Ming Dynasty discontinued them due to high costs, allowing European powers to later dominate Indian Ocean trade.

Did China Reach Africa Before Columbus Reached America? 🤯 #shorts #history #shortsAñadido:
70 years before Columbus, a Chinese admiral [music] docked on the East African coast and brought a giraffe back to the emperor.
His name was Zheng He, also written Ching Ho.
Ming Dynasty admiral.
He made two [music] voyages to East Africa. 1417 to 1419, then 1421 to 1422.
He didn't come to conquer. He came to trade.
The Swahili [music] coast was a global trading hub long before Europeans figured out the Indian Ocean.
Then the Ming [music] Dynasty decided the voyages were too expensive. They shut them down. The Portuguese arrived 80 years later.
Different history if China hadn't quit.
