Spielberg’s latest work is a masterful synthesis of his own cinematic vocabulary, proving that the most profound alien encounters are ultimately reflections of the human condition. This review captures a director who has moved beyond mere spectacle to achieve a rare, philosophical maturity in the sci-fi genre.

We Saw Disclosure Day EARLY — Spielberg's Alien Movie Is Insane!Added:
Good evening, campers, dreamers, and babysitters, and welcome to our raw reaction review for Disclosure Day. A meteorologist and a cyber security expert find themselves at the center of a movement to expose the government's coverup of extraterrestrial secrets. Well, Luke, I think, and I'm going to put a caveat here because obviously we all know Jaws, and that's one of my favorites. We've covered it.
I've talked about it. But beyond Jaws, I think this is a first for the channel. I don't think we've covered a Steven Spielberg movie on this. I mean, I just talked a little bit about the behind the scenes of the Twilight Zone, which he has a part of. But as far as this channel goes, we've never had the opportunity to discuss a pure brand new in theaters Stephen Spielberg movie.
That is 100% correct because I was looking at his filmography because obviously us being film fans, we're everyone is hugely aware of Stephen Spielberg and his filmography. He's so got so many iconic titles in his arsenal, but I was looking at it and um in my relationship with Steven Spielberg's films, I haven't seen a lot of his more modern stuff. I had seen like Ready Player One was probably the most modern film I had seen um out of the things he's released um over the last few years. So yeah, nothing in he always plays in different genres. You know, it's like kind of Disclosure Day has got that science fiction element to it. So, it's like we can kind of make it horror adjacent, but it's like honestly I always go back to the usual suspects, you know, ET, Jaws, Jurassic Park, all the ones that we're really familiar with, but other than that, like his more recent stuff, I haven't seen.
>> I've seen some decent Spielberg movies over the last few years, but I can say until we sat down to watch Disclosure Day, it has been a minute since I have had a Spielberg movie that made me just say, "Man, he still got it. He still has it." and uh Disclosure Day did that for me.
>> And honestly, the buildup to the Disclosure Day and just knowing that we were going to go see a Spielberg film, that was the big selling point for me.
I've talked about it a couple times where it's like, we see a lot of smaller films. Um, and they're all really great, but Disclosure Day was probably the first in a couple of years for me that felt like a very very much a true event kind of film. And I don't I don't think anyone can do that like Spielberg. just the anticipation for this, being able to see the scope of this thing, the trailer, it felt big. And that's what I was going in expecting here. And when you look at a subg genre like Aliens, sometimes it's it's kind of a little bit of a harder sale for me because sometimes you can really connect with those films, but a lot of time I I always have that missing connector piece. But I will say Disclosure Day really was very thorough in its character work and how it does elicit an emotional response from you. All the characters we meet in this movie are very well realized. They all feel like they have purpose and the story itself is both interesting, more exciting than I thought it was going to be. I was prepared for this movie to be a lot of people talking and just getting into really big, you know, philosophical concepts of like what does it mean to be human and what is existence and aliens and we have that. But damn it, Spielberg's able to just keep it moving and have crazy action scenes and whimsical kind of science fiction moments. Like to me the best way I can describe disclosure day is like if you look at I guess you'd say close encounters minority reports and a little bit of ET put them all in a blender.
This is Disclosure Day. It's kind of like I think his almost swan song in a way and I only say that because he's getting older to maybe the alien subgenre that he has just come back to time and time again throughout his career.
>> Really certainly a tip of the hat because it's like you look at it. He said some interesting stuff uh regarding aliens to the leadup here. You can tell he really just has an intrigue about extraterrestrials and really where you can take that story. The presentation here, like I said, in its character work is really interesting because Emily Blunt easily as as Margaret is is is a force in this.
We see such a range of her character.
She's funny at times. Um you know, she has great comedic timing, but then she also feels authentic. you know, it never feels like she's got these lines rehearsed. Her delivery is on point, but then you get emotional with the arc of her character as well. And I love we get dropped into the story when we talk about, you know, Steven Spielberg presenting this stuff in an interesting way. I love where we find this character of Margaret at the very beginning and how he continuously makes you ask what the [ __ ] every time a little bit of the story gets released. You know, we get that breadcrumb of what exactly is going on. you never get the full picture till the very end, which is of course how a film should be. And it just keeps you engaged throughout the film of these little tidbits of these stories of where what direction we're going. I really love where that story goes because at at moments you're with the Emily Blunt Margaret character and wondering what the hell's going on. Then we we cut to Daniel's character and we see his arc and what exactly is going on. you get this range of emotions throughout the entire film and are continuously asking yourself how does this all work, you know, and I think they they put a very nice bow on the story overall and where exactly it's going. And I love that aspect of it because it's like when you look at Stephen Spielberg films and just the the scope of his of his films in general, you get some actionheavy stuff, but you also get a pretty deep emotional core in this film here, which is what I was really pleased with because when we get into that big action heavy stuff, I think it works to an extent for me. But there are some moments, one admittedly involving a train that I was like, hm, I don't know if I can suspend my disbelief that necessarily worked 100% for me just because it felt so big, but the emotional core of the film is what kept bringing me back.
>> Yeah. See, for me, and I think this just goes to even for us, we agree on so many things, but even with a film like this with so many broad strokes, it's like I thought that scene was rather exhilarating and exciting. And I guess I never really considered how out there it is until you just mentioned it because I think like at that point I was just so engaged in the story and what was happening. It's like it's one of those to me where I think all of us have had this especially with a movie like Disclosure Day where we've seen the trailer a hundred times. Like if you go to the movies regularly it's every time you sit down to watch a movie you see the trailer. I think like for me what this movie does so well that so many movies fail at somehow and I think it's just modern viewers, modern audiences is like I never once sat there and was like well we haven't seen this scene from the trailer yet. We haven't seen this. So when that scene comes up, and it is one of the big scenes in the trailer that we see, I was like, "Oh yeah, I completely forgot that we have to do this." Like, "How is this going to h like what's going to happen?" And before you know it, you're into it. And I think, yeah, there's definitely some suspense, some disbelief there. But I think again, it kind of falls into that line of why I say like this is a little bit of Minority Report. This is a little bit of the kind of whimsical childlike excitement of ET mixed with kind of the, you know, real science fiction kind of cerebral stuff that we get in Close Encounters. Like this does really feel like the ultimate Steven Spielberg love letter to science fiction and aliens.
And I think overall it's it's it works really well. Maybe for sci-fi Spielberg fans, yes. I don't know about pure horror fans though because this is not not really a horror movie. It's got very I will say surprisingly heavy moments that were borderline disturbing at times with some of the things we see and that's really well executed. But I think like for the most part this is the closest thing I will say to a classic Spielberg adventure film that we've had in decades. I think, you know, if you're looking for if you're used to smaller stories with a deep and emotional core, that's might take you out a little bit.
But at the base of what this film is and the message that Stephen Spielberg is portraying to us, I think it's going to bring you back in because it certainly did for me. There are a few elements in here where I'm like, eh, that didn't necessarily work for me because it felt too big. The scope was just too large.
But that's what some people are coming in to look for in a film like this. And I think it kind of exceeds on all those different levels. You know, I think it it's um a variety bag of of story in terms of what it's going to serve you.
And I think you can always come back to that emotional core. Like you said, very surprisingly heavy moments that I think, you know, on page or if if I explain it to you, you're going to be like, how is that how does that elicit such an emotional response? Just the timing, the pacing, some of the things you actually don't see in just here.
>> Yes. That is one of the those things that's really going to hit home for you.
And I was really surprised by that because it is a heavy message. It almost twists the tone of the film for those moments. And I was like, man, very surprising. And then when you see some visuals later on in the film, it's like, oh wow, this is it gets a little bit heavy, a little bit heavy, and a little more heavy until we get the overarching story. So, I really love that about Disclosure Day. very unexpected because I was just kind of going in for a big actionheavy Stephen Spielberg film. But we also got this emotional quarter that is very viable in this film that I think I'm going to be talking about when we talk about, you know, like I said, Jaws ET, those the usual suspects, but Disclosure Day certainly shows a different side in something where I can it can kind of coincide with those films. Is the ending completely satisfying? At this moment in time, I don't think so. I think I have to sit with it a little longer and I have to to kind of think on it, but I'm going to be very curious to see what people are going to say about that because to me, I think that might be the only sticking point that maybe will turn some people off. But in a lot of ways, it's like it it is kind of fitting for the movie we're we're watching.
>> Yeah, it it seemed a little profound. I don't know necessarily if walking right out of the theater, you're going to be happy with it. I think maybe with more time you sit with it, it you may come around to that aspect of the film. It felt um a little abrupt, I guess you would say, in terms of what we were getting in terms of the actual story itself, but overall, the film was a happy surprise for me. Its emotion and makes you feel invested in its characters. Some of the set pieces for me felt a little too big, but I think if you're a big Stephen Spielberg fan, you're going to get what you came for in that. Um, a lot of great performances. I do want to shout out also Coleman Domingo's performance, great. Wyatt Russell, always happy to see him. very very charismatic in this and a a happy happy surprise there. So, I think I'm going to sit with a recommend on this one. I think, you know, this one could be a good time at the uh theater. It's one of those films we saw in like the the big Dolby atmas kind of the >> So, you know, it was certainly an experience, but I think, you know, just going to this is a film that makes a case that you have to go out to the theater to see it because it certainly lives up to being a Spielberg film.
>> I would agree. I I think I'm going to sit with a recommend as well. I think that's a very strong rating. I It doesn't hit must see for me. Like I said, there's a couple of things that I I I do have issues with that I do want to go back and see it, but I cannot deny this is probably the most entertaining and exciting Steven Spielberg movie we've had in a long time. But that's going to do it for us, guys. Let us know down below if you're going to be checking out Disclosure Day. Again, I think this is going to be one if you plan on watching it at all, you should watch it in a theater. It very much is worth the price of admission just visually. Uh but yeah, I think overall this is an exciting return to something I didn't think we'd ever see from Spielberg again. But hey, man's full of surprises. So, let us know down below what you think if you've already seen it. Uh try to refrain from spoilers and let us know if you're anticipating it if you haven't. And other than that, guys, got a lot of great stuff up on the channel. Luke just posted a very interesting little bonus video for you guys this week. Uh going over some sequels and maybe some uh future kind of predictions, things like that that maybe were a little ahead of their time. It was very good folks. I enjoyed it quite a bit. So give it a watch and then yep, we'll have a big list for you at the end of the week as well as uh maybe some other stuff along the way. So until next time, I'm Dylan Null >> and I'm Luke Janesco >> and remember, stay scared.
