Summerfest at the Gaylord TexanAñadido:
It is summer time and time for Summerfest at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine. Oh, they do it up right every year. This year they're debuting all American activities for the country's 250th birthday. Dan at the resort this morning with the preview. A little sand sculptures if you will. Hey there.
Yes, quite a work of art Lauren. As you guys mentioned Summerfest is something they do every year here at the Gaylord Texan. This year the theme is especially patriotic celebrating as you mentioned America's 250th birthday which of course officially falls on July 4th, 2026.
But they'll be celebrating all summer.
Behind me an inspiring sight Mount Rushmore carved not out of granite but rather created with sand and water. Just tightly packed sand and they tell me it will remain intact for the entire season. An impressive sight. Let's say hello to two of the stars of the All American Summerfest. Here is Miss Firecracker and Lady Liberty herself.
Hello guys. Yes, you're you're kind of up there ways but let me So sometimes kids will kids will approach you and what one of their their questions is how old are you? What do you tell them?
Well, I think I look pretty good for my age. I'm only 139 this year. What do you think? And you try to give them a little history. For example, the the Statue of Liberty was a gift from Uh we were a gift from the France. Yes, quite quite a memorable well-chosen gift I I must say.
Well, thank you very much ladies. Uh let's say hello to Martha Nibling with the Gaylord Texan Resort to tell us a little bit more. Good morning Martha. Um also another part of Summerfest. Some kids bringing out they're showing their their artistic inclinations.
>> Yes, good morning, Dan. So, part of SummerFest is our art studio and you'll see that all of the artwork this summer is patriotic themed going along with the All-American summer. So, the kids get a chance to come into the art studio and they can choose to paint a canvas or a piece of wood and it's just a fun way to keep them occupied and have a take-home gift with them. I got to say I'm I'm seeing some real talent here with What is that that there's an eagle here and then a and a birthday cake?
>> Happy birthday, America to 50. They're doing great. Oh, we for sure got to take a look. Let's kind of be careful with the camera cable.
Animal and animal encounters on Saturdays at SummerFest.
>> This is one of my favorite activities for families. So, we have animal encounters where families can come out and they can meet all kinds of different animals. Right now, we have one of our Angora rabbits and then we have a wallaby over here, too. They're just really sweet and it's a chance for kids to learn about the animals and just get some upfront cuddles with them, too. Uh the the wallaby, of course, a native of Australia.
Yes. Since I I know my zoology and and what kind of rabbit is it over here?
>> rabbit.
>> An Angora rabbit. Okay, well, let's just talk to Emily real quick here. Okay, does does the wallaby have a name? Yes, this is Ivory. Ivory and how does Ivory deal with and and handle all the attention at SummerFest? As long as she is in her bag, which acts a lot like a pouch, she is pretty comfortable. You can see she's pretty laid back. She was almost falling asleep getting pets over here. Just going with the flow. All right. Thank you so [snorts] much, Emily and Benjamin and Martha. It is SummerFest runs the entire season all summer here at the Gaylord Texan through Labor Day weekend and in the next hour of Good Day, we'll uh take a look outside at the water park and see what kind of patriotic activities they got going over there.
But for now, let's throw it back to you guys in the studio.
>> Ooh, a water park. That's a good teaser.
Oh, it sure is fun. All right, Dan.
Thanks.
