Holden VN SS Part 3 Winter is Kicking inAñadido:
Hi everyone. It's cold. It looks like it's going to rain. It's cold. Um, we are here with the VN again. Finally have some time to work on it. Uh, so what what's left is I need to change the back door wiring. Unfortunately, the back door wiring has been hacked up. Uh, so I bought new wiring, uh, new door looms for the back door. Uh, I've bought window regulators for the back doors.
Uh, so they're all they're all hopefully going to go in today if everything goes well, if everything goes to plan. Um, I have the seat belt stalks um, and the footrest pedal and everything to unbolt so I can pull the carpet out and give everything a clean. On the inside, I have the parcel shelf to remove, the roof lining to remove. I need to be really gentle with that cuz as you guys know, those roof lining plastics, gh, forget about it. So, I need to be very careful with those. Uh, then once I'm done that, I can slowly start to put things back together. Um, obviously screw the speakers that I bought on in the back parcel shelf. Put the I got a new parcel like a a good one that hasn't been chopped up in the back. And then roof lining, carpet, door cards, dash, seats, they can all start going back together.
Once the interior is pretty much buttoned up, then I'm going to move to the engine side of things. So, my my aim is to obviously not in this video cuz I have the doubt I'll get it done all today, but my aim is to button up the whole interior and then I'll move to the engine. The engine's nice and easy. All it needs is I've already done fresh fresh oil. Uh oil filter is done. It just needs belts.
It needs uh yeah, it just needs belts.
It needs a radiator flush, coolant, new radiator cap. Uh I got new overflow bottle and everything like that for it as well. Need to bleed the system and get everything running really nicely and uh fix the mirror. Uh the underside is completely done. So it has all brand new rubber suspension. Everything's all been done on the underside. Uh so that's good as well. So then it'll be pretty much ready for roadie. Uh once I get a road worthy done, uh I can cruise it around a little bit in the patina look.
I'm still unsure. A lot of people saying, "Oh, keep it patina. Oh, and paint it this." I'm just like, "Oh, it gets so overwhelming cuz I hear hear different things from everyone." But I'd love to drive it as is cuz I reckon it's obviously going to turn a lot of heads in this condition. Like look at it.
VN that looks like it just got dragged out of a paddic. Like it's so cool.
Obviously with a new mirror. I know keep saying change the mirror. I will be I will be doing that maybe today.
Anyway, let's get stuck into it. I'll be giving you guys updates how I'm going.
We'll be doing some time lapses, doing all that sort of stuff. And so excited to actually start ripping into this. And hopefully hopefully the build sheet is under the carpet somewhere cuz I haven't found it yet. It's usually in the back, you know, in the back corner, the front patch, whatever. I've looked. I can't see it. Unless it's stuck underneath somewhere or someone's pulled it out one day in its life. God knows. This poor thing's this poor thing's had so much done to it. It's ridiculous. You know what I mean? So, let's get stuck into it.
So, I've uh ripped the carpet out, sorted the door trims out. Let's have a look inside. E.
So, that's it there.
No carpet.
There's a lot of tacks on the floor.
Some change.
Otherwise, the the floor actually looks pretty nice. It is a little damp there and there's a little damp there. So, I need to investigate what's going on in the two front foot wells.
But otherwise, everything looks really nice, really clean. Happy with that.
Let's see what's next.
The roof lining's out. And um it was just breaking apart in my hands, like literally. And I think a rat or a mouse or something was in there and like munching on this thing cuz have a look, guys. Have a look. Anyway, so this like there's a brine board. It was just it was just just breaking apart in my hand.
Look at it. just fell apart. But let's go on the other side and have a look.
And I think uh cuz I did find a lot of like rodent droppings and things like that. And how did they go up into the roof like roof lining area? Look at this.
Like look, you can see that was that's obviously been chewed away.
So they've been gnoring away, everyone.
Just gnoring away. Oh, it's cardboard.
Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum, yum, yum. Look at that. Just look at that. Look at the holes in it.
It's been just been gnoring away. So, now I have the clean up. I'm thinking I'll bring the bin in from outside.
Just break it up all in the bin. The carpet is just roached. The original carpet is just completely disgusting. The smell.
Yuck. So, now I'm hoping with this roof lining and this carpet out of the car, that yucky mold stench is gone.
I get to clean. I'll get my shop back, give it a good, really good cleaning here. Um, and then from there, forgot about the partial.
All right. Sorry if I feel it if I sound a little like like my throat's been killing me. Um anyway, parcel shelf. Clean up everything in here. Let's start tackling this thing. I reckon I'll start with the rear electrics. Get all the wiring sorted.
Get the ignition sorted. Like all the wiring, everything everything wirewise that I need to solder and everything.
I'll do it now while there's no carpet or anything in the car. And then start laying everything down. It's going to be so good to actually So, I'm going to I think the first thing I'm going to do is put the carpet in and the driver's seat in there and then I can like sit inside, do the grab handles, do everything nicely instead of stretching in there because my back paw I'm getting old.
All right, let's get back to it. Let's get I'm pumped, everyone. Let's get back to it. Everything's working out.
Milhouse for the Simpsons guys out there.
So roof lining has been broken into pieces and it's in the bin. Uh parcel shelf has been again broken into pieces and put in the bin. I have kept the um I've kept the carpet because the carpet's actually in the right nick on the parcel shelf. So I kept that but the board was the board was smashed. I just thought I'd hey I'll just break it up throw in the bin. Uh now I've got my shop back. Give the inside a vacuum.
Clean all that. Clean all that there.
And then what have we got left? Uh what do we got left? Then I need to wire in the rear door cut rear doors. Um because someone's munched up the wiring. So I've bought new door looms. Uh change the window regs on the back. Uh but I can do them anytime. I suppose I don't need to do that now. I'm thinking maybe vacuum reckoning carpet. I know. We'll see how we go. Let's just see how we go, everyone. Uh hopefully the weather holds out. It is starting to get, you know, when like the sun comes out really bright and there's like real dark clouds, you're like, "Oh no, it looks like it's going to rain." That's what I'm coping at the moment. So, we'll see how we're going to go.
All right. Cleaned up in here very well.
I'm very happy with it. Remember how bad it was?
Cleaned up all all along the dash, all across the dash vents. There was little mouse droppings all around there. That's all being cleaned out. The inside of the dash vents have been cleaned out.
Everything's been cleaned out.
Now, what's next?
Great question. Let's see what we get up to. So, I've thought about it. I'm going to clean up the driver's underlay because it's yucky and mushy. So, I'm just going to clean that out. Um going to get rid of the gabillion the gabillion like miles of kilometers of um of speaker cable everywhere.
Get rid of all that cuz I'm just be using the factory stuff. I'm only going to have speakers in the front dash and two sixes in the parcel shelf. That's it. That's that's all you need. Don't need speakers on all the doors and speakers everywhere and bloody speakers speaker speakers speaker speakers speaker speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers speakers I suppose that was the 2000s for you anyway so remove all the speaker wiring um fix the ignition the ignition switch they've chopped that and put spade terminals there so I want to put the actual the actual um plug back on it so I'll do that there's a couple wires under the main dash loom that there was a security system there so I'm going Clean those up, bridge back those, solder those, tape those up. Uh, what else? Then once I do that, hopefully, what time is it now? It's 1:00 now. Hopefully, I have enough time and then I will drop the carpet in and start making this look pretty again.
Because at the moment, well, it look disgusting. Me at the moment actually looks pretty reasonable in here.
Like look, actually it looks pretty pretty reasonable in here.
Doesn't doesn't look like a disgusting mess.
Um, yeah. So, I'm thinking hopefully uh the Yeah, hopefully the carpet, put the speakers in the back, slip the parcel shelf on, and then just slowly start doing those little itty bits and start making the interior look good. Uh, I don't have enough time looking at the weather to do the rear doors. I don't want to be halfway through doing the window mechanisms and it starts raining.
So, let's get back to work. The more I'm sitting here talking, the less work's getting done. And we want some work to get done. It's winter. Don't have much time left.
All right. I'm back, everyone. I was losing my marbles. Okay. All right. So, I was losing my marbles. I could not find my soldering iron anywhere. Doesn't matter where. I literally turned my shed upside down trying to find a soldering iron. Could not find one. So, I just was like, bugger it. I'm just going to run to the nearest shop. So, I went to super cheap quickly. Bought a little bought a little portable portable soldering iron.
I was like, bugger it. This will do for now. I really need to get this done because it looks beautiful there and it's starting to look gray and gloomy there. So, the weather's setting in.
This needs a bunch of wiring soldered up. Um, and yeah, anyway, let's get things done. Doesn't smell on the car anymore. Look, look at that.
It's a progress so far.
Everything is pretty much gutted out on the inside, cleaned.
Very nice.
It's getting there, everyone. It's getting there. I'm excited. I'm very I want to be like when the interior is going to go in, it's going to look you you guys wait and see how mint the trim is going to be. It's going to be sick. Who doesn't love fresh, nice, clean series 2 BNSS trim. Anyway, let's get back to it.
All right, I'm done for the day. Let me give you guys a rundown on what's been done so far. So, I've replaced this was ignition wiring.
They had spade terminals, literally spade terminals wrapped up in electrical tape going up in behind the ignition switch and they all like chops and joins and like it was it was nasty. So, I replaced that with a with a nice genuine genuine one. Genuine plug. All heat shrink. All nice. That's all done. Then they had this as well.
This was a fuse, a little little fuse section that was wired between the um uh the cut cup.
They had this little fuse bit that there was wired between the fuel pump wiring.
So I got rid of that. Sold that together. And then there was a lot more than this. So I threw some of it out.
Didn't want to go through the bin again.
But just aftermarket wiring. I had an aftermarket alarm aftermarket central locking. They cut out all the old central locking wiring and stuff from the back doors. So I'm redoing that. I had to retape and refix up all the central lock all the original central locking wiring from the inside of the door. So, I did that. Uh, fixed all the wiring under there. Tidied everything up. Doesn't look tidy cuz the dash is out. But honestly, trust me, I did so much wiring, so much cutting, so much just joining and cutting and removing all aftermarket accessories, removing all the speaker wires. They had speaker wires to every door. They had six brand 9 and speaker wires running to the back.
But the great thing is, look, I know it sounds like they butchered it, but at least they didn't they ran all new wires for the speakers.
They did not cut the They did not cut the factory wiring, which was a godsend because you know how many times I get one of these old cars and they lunk snip the factory wiring, add to it, put a bunch of load on it, and just becomes a nightmare now. Yeah. So, that's done.
So, that's all done. Uh, don't worry, I got a couple tools in there. Tidy the little little bits up again. I need to find one grommet is missing. I pulled out one of the one of the uh bolts was snapped inside the floor.
So, I pulled that out as well. And yeah, so the inside is actually ready to go back together. So, I'm super excited for that. Um hopefully in the next coming days tomorrow might not be. Anyway, we'll get there. We'll get there. The next coming days actually start to put the inside of this VM back together. I'm super keen. Um, I'm just happy I got rid of all this junk. Uh, I need to just fit the two new back door looms on the back doors. Back door looms on the back doors. The the door looms on the inside there. Um, fit the two back window regulators so they're like ready to rock and roll. Uh, then we will then smash everything out. I'll chuck the carpet in first. chuck a seat in so then I can sit there and do the roof lining and put all the grab handles and stuff properly um without trying to like squeeze in there and kneel and all that and twist and whatever cuz my back is absolutely gone as you guys know. Um and then yeah, just slowly slowly start putting the interior in the dash in all the plastics.
Um, I do need to still get a plug for the SV 3800 clock because I'm putting that in there. So, I need to find a plug for that. Um, we need to go hunting for that before the dash goes in. What else for the back speakers and parcel shelf and roof? Yeah, everything, like I said, just all the inside now. All the inside's been gutted out. All brand new, fresh inside is coming in. Got a brand new steering wheel thanks to First Class Imports. Got a whole bunch of new stuff from them.
Clips, everything. They help me out a lot. Um, did get a few interior trim pieces that are from Rare Spares as well. Sun visor clips and all that that I need because my ones were just completely gone. Now, the interior is going to be a bit of a twist. like it is going to be factory VNSS but with a twist. You guys will see.
It's all in my little kafala. Um I do have all the parts here. I haven't shown anyone. Uh but it's going to be cool.
It's going to be cool. It's going to be like OEM plus like SV enhanced sort of uh HSV inspired inside. So it's going to be really really cool. keep an eye on that. And yeah, thanks everyone. Uh I appreciate everyone watching till the end. Um please like, comment, share, subscribe, uh send it to your mates, and we will be doing more car stuff. Um yeah, it's going to be awesome. Keep an eye out. There's going to be cool things coming. Um got updates for the um community car uh that will be coming up.
And yeah, like, comment, share, subscribe, do all those things. And thank you. Paid her out.
