[00:22:22]The the juxtaposition now to this is really interesting. I don't think it would have worked if it was just that all the time.

[00:30:04]>> And then it felt like they were like this one's buddy cop, this one's like family comedy, this one's >> on YouTube actually that said that too like >> That Ron had said that maybe that would have been >> Ron had talked about it's it's a bit of everything's kind of blending together but you and Ron also did I think talk about how the you know the first season they weren't entirely sure but also they weren't entirely you never know how many seasons you're going to get either. So yeah, I think it's I think it's that it's like you can see like and even in that in not last episode but the episode before that um with the active no Active duty The Law & Order episode I got I think of in my head is the Law & Order episode. Um you know it was like the thematically was A Few Good Men it was like that military crime drama episode and you and Ron stuck on that moon was kind of a throwback to the original BSG like they're picking you can see the writers kind of picking out all right what is the you know headline of this so >> I wonder if they had to lay that out for Sci-Fi I think so I think I think that gives them the comfort to be able to go okay this is how we can visualize this series going forward in season 1 and I bet after season 1 they don't need to do that anymore cuz you've proven your proof of concept. Um but it would make sense to me that's something they would have done. You know what was really funny so I sat down with David Eick and and we had breakfast and he was talking about how they didn't realize when I until I did the Cylon Raider episode where I was up inside the Raider and I was like humorous they didn't realize that I could be funny and as soon as they saw that he was like write or more comedy. Right >> So I'm curious to see if that starts to come up more because you saw it a little bit in the scene with Baltar with Starbuck is sort of at times the audience's Well you're the straight you were the straight man in that yeah you're the straight man in a lot of in the times there. But also like the looks that she gives are kind of humorous where she's just stares at someone and she's just like oh my god like especially when she's staring at Baltar and she's like you are a lunatic. Yeah true Like what would you do if you walked in and a doctor was like hunched over a table jacking off under the table like what would you >> is most people would have like oh Jesus what are you doing but instead it's just like I also like that about your character of like a little masturbation is not going to throw you for a loop.

[00:32:08]But she's [laughter] also just sort of like all right you're a little pathetic you knew Can I get my blood test please I got better things to do than your blood. I got to go save people can you put your pants on put your dick away.

[00:33:04]>> [gasps] >> I don't remember. So Kate she doesn't remember. Kate also asked do you wish BSG had done more comedy episodes? That goes into what we just we were talking about with do we want more of what we just saw? I don't think it The funny thing to me is that I felt a good balance of comedy with the Baltar six stuff and like I love that that is a through line cuz otherwise the show would just be too heavy. Yeah >> But I don't think I would I wouldn't want to see this continue regularly. I wouldn't mind if this kind of popped up again but it was too much to continue that level more I think for me. So kind of what it feels like and like don't get me don't be mad at me. It feels like you're right in the sense that I feel like a little bit of comedy is nice. I feel like this may have actually gone a bit too far a little bit goes a long way and when you do a whole episode and the idea being behind it is that you know things are so heavy at times you got to break it up.

[00:33:58]>> Yeah But I feel like maybe may have been just a bit too far I don't know but this is that thing like art is subjective you know it just some people might love it so I I don't know I don't I I personally I don't think it is my cup of tea cuz I'm happy with what's happening with six and Baltar. Yeah and I think like you said the because they didn't try to do it across the whole episode you saw Tigh and Tyrol and you had the seriousness of their situation it was I think that made it palatable. I think if it hadn't had that I would have probably been even more opposed to it and I'm not I enjoyed that episode and partly cuz I enjoy the fun of seeing the people we know and the characters we know do something so silly. The character of Ellen is interesting. And I think the thing is Ellen really brings that energy into it and so it was easy to lean into it. She would have probably felt too annoying if they hadn't been having fun with the episode. I wonder if that was why they did it was that they wanted the introduction of this character to feel very different and almost unsteady Mhm Like if I was justifying this Ellen is unsteady she makes Tigh unsteady she makes everyone around her sort of off kilter and I feel like if you use that as like a metaphor for the tone of this episode it sort of feels discombobulated the entire time which is who she is and what she brings to the story. So >> Yeah it's what she does to people.

[00:35:15]>> Exactly so I see why the instinct of the director is to do that you know what I mean because I think that it stands alone it's like it's an in comes this character and now if she acts like that and no one else does it makes sense it's grounded because they've established that's who she is.

[00:35:33]>> So I have that's something I'm always interested in when a director is also an actor on the show and and just in general for like when directors come on to a TV show they don't often have a lot of leeway to get creative right? They they are kind of required to stick within the world of the show like Depends on the show but And it depends on the show but if that's what was surprising to me I mean obviously Edward James Olmos has a little bit more ability to implement what he wants to do and so it was nice they gave him free reign to do something different and put his mark on an episode cuz you could clearly see it in the show. But I wonder for you how was it working with Eddie as the director of this? Do you remember him behind the camera? Not at all. No No I don't remember. Well that was a terrible question for from my point of It was a great >> [laughter] >> it was a great question I I was waiting for such a good BTS story. No I got nothing. And I got nothing. All right fine I know that [laughter] Eddie whilst working with Grace I remember them spending a lot of time working on the emotional components of her character together because her character if you if you sort of put everybody's cards on the table that character and the fact that she's playing two different people already but the character of Sharon on the planet with Helo is so hard to play. And It's um Well you think about she's playing four different characters I realize she's playing two versions of of Sharon who's on planet the conflicted versions of her pretending to be a human but then having to have her Cylonness come through and then on the same thing on the Galactica she's got to have a different version of that so she's got four different things she's juggling.

[00:37:04]That is that is a massive amount of work.

[00:37:06]>> so jealous of the Cylons.

[00:37:08]>> Oh were you? I was going to say thank I would be like thank god I only have to play my my one character. I was desperate to play a Cylon. Interesting >> so bad to be one because I wanted that they looked like they were having some much fun. Yeah it is an interesting acting challenge.

[00:37:22]>> just kind of did the same thing every day. No you didn't do the same thing.

[00:37:25]Believe us believe me believe everybody who's seen your performance you weren't doing the same thing every day. I appreciate that. And if you were you were doing it so well we wouldn't know.

[00:37:31]>> fun. I think that's why for me and I won't spoil anything but toward the end of the show it started getting real [laughter] fun for me. It would have got really what?
