Why Should We Be Concerned About Moral Relativism? | Verse of the Day

[00:00:00]Welcome to today's daily Bible verse.

[00:00:03]Today's message addresses one of the most dangerous philosophies spreading through our culture today and why we should be concerned about it.

[00:00:12]Our verse today comes from Proverbs chapter 14 verse 12.

[00:00:17]There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.

[00:00:23]Today, [music] my niece came to visit me and while we were at dinner, she started telling me a story about her classmate [music] who got in trouble his fellow classmates phone from their backpack.

[00:00:34]When I asked [music] her as to why they did so, she answered that the boy thought that his classmate didn't need the phone because he spends most of his time on his school work.

[00:00:43]>> [music] >> He then proceeds with justifying his actions by saying, "It doesn't seem like stealing to me. If anything, it's quite the opposite." In his own words, he claimed that he was actually doing a good deed by helping his fellow [music] student focus more on his studies.

[00:01:00]This right here is a perfect example of moral relativism.

[00:01:04]It is the belief that there is no such thing as an absolute truth and that every person is entitled to their own version of morality.

[00:01:12]If we look closely at that child's response after stealing, >> [music] >> we notice that in his individualistic moral view, there is no universal truth.

[00:01:21]What is right and what is wrong are primarily determined by his personal perspective, feelings, or internal rules.

[00:01:30]Everyone here is a witness of such behavior. We live in a society that empowers this kind of behavior. [music] We now have to be cautious about passing moral judgment on the most obvious practices like transgenderism under the assumption that no one's morality is superior.

[00:01:48]What is even more worrying is that according to the Barna Group data, [music] which has tracked the faith of America for more than 40 years, reports that over 74% [music] of our youth have agreed that morally right and wrong change over time based on society >> [music] >> and that no one should impose their truth on others.

[00:02:07]In my human eyes, I can see why this concept has much appeal to our youth because if there is no such thing as an absolute standard, then there are no restrictions on how you should live your life.

[00:02:19]But as we all know, the danger that comes from this is equally obvious.

[00:02:24]If [music] everyone determines their own truth, then nothing is truly wrong and there is no foundation left on which we can build a just and functioning society.

[00:02:33]This is why our verse today warns us that if there is a way that seems right to a person, >> [music] >> it usually ends up in death.

[00:02:42]The entire Bible addresses moral relativism because this philosophy is at its core a rejection of God who is the giver of the standard of truth.

[00:02:51]It started in the garden when Adam and Eve chose their own truth over God's clear instruction >> [music] >> and it has continued through every generation since.

[00:03:00]The Bible warns us in Romans chapter 1 verses 18 to 20 that the wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness [music] and wickedness of people who suppress the truth by their wickedness [music] since what may be known about God is plain to them because God has made it plain to them.

[00:03:19]For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities, >> [music] >> his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen being understood from what has been made so that people are without excuse.

[00:03:32]The only way we can escape this mentality of moral relativism is by believing in God, his son and his word.

[00:03:39]God can change any heart and he calls every believer to witness his truth in this lost world.

[00:03:45]Let's pray for others also because moral relativism is not just a personal issue.

[00:03:50]It is the same mentality that shapes our laws, institutions, [music] and entire societies.

[00:03:56]Let's come before the Lord for prayers.

[00:03:58]Heavenly Father, thank you that your truth never changes, and that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

[00:04:05][music] Give us courage to stand for your truth in a world that often rejects it, and help us to share it with love and boldness.
