This video demonstrates key developmental milestones in Boston Terrier puppies, including the weaning process at 4 weeks of age, parasite prevention through scheduled worming treatments (pyrantal at 2-3 weeks, fimbendazol at 4 weeks), and the importance of stress management during transitions like crate training and new home environments. The breeder explains that puppies may test positive for parasites like Giardia or Coxidia due to stress during changes, even when properly cared for, and emphasizes the need for low-stress handling and proper veterinary care.

Boston Terrier Pack Playtime Dodging Raindrops! Phoebe Adjusts & 4-Week-Old Puppies Start Weaning!Added:
Hi everyone.
Oh, I got a sea of Boston's around me.
Thor, quit. Thor, quit. Hey guys.
There's a peek at the babies. Hey.
Uhhuh. Feep. Let's go outside. Come on.
I was just fixing to take them outside.
Come on, big girl. She was looking for a little spot there. Let's go outside.
Oh, I have everyone except for Caleb.
Look at that girl go. There she goes.
There she goes. Good girl. Now you go pee pee. Yeah. Straight to it. Oh, I've uh had a busy morning again all day and I just uh I treated all of my Bostonans with some Advantage Multi Heartworm medicine today, which covers fleas and ticks and all other parasites.
And I use the Advantage Multi, which is a topical uh ointment that goes on the back of their neck. So, after I treat them, I normally would like them to come outside and let it dry good. I love the product.
It really works, but I don't like that it stays on the back of their neck longer than I like. And if you reach down and pet them, you will get it on your hand a little bit and you can smell it. So, I like for them to come outside right after being treated and let it dry good. But today it was raining and I put them in their crate and uh they've been laying in their crate now until just now. And I know it's dry. I mean, it's it's in their skin, but it's still wet on the hair.
So, usually I tell Jeff, we don't even want to pet them on the back of their neck for 24 hours cuz you'll smell that stuff on your hand. But it's a good product. It's a safe product, I guess, is what I mean because it's in the ivormectin family and I per Hey, Maggie.
Maggie, no. You get away. Reeba, no.
Reeba, go. You girls go.
Go. Nobody's going out here. Uh-uh. You go.
I don't know why she's got a little bit of an upset tummy.
and she uh she got sick last night and this morning her poop doesn't look good.
So, I'm going to have to check into that. I don't know if it's just a nursing thing and and going through something or what, but I am going to start trying to wean the puppies today.
Hey, Jeff. Uh Shiva just made a mess back there that needs some water on it to keep the other girls out of it. I don't think you can pick it up.
But um Thorman, quit. Thor, leave the girls alone. But anyway, sorry guys.
That's just sometimes part of uh mama's nursing. And uh she was had an upset tummy. I'll get her some kale pectalin in her and I may um just stop them from nursing all together. Their milk has changed and everything has changed. Uh fe or Maggie, get off me. Um Chloe, she doesn't even want to nurse. She does have a little tiny bit of milk. She jumped in their play pin this morning cuz she wanted to get rid of some, but she doesn't really want them nursing.
She's not comfortable with the nursing right now. And they are um Jake turns four weeks old today. Champ was four weeks old yesterday. So, uh I don't have a problem going on fullon uh weaning and only let mas go in if they really want to. But if they don't want to, I would just soon them go ahead and dry up. And if necessary, I can put them on some antibiotics to uh help if uh she was something wrong with her little tummy.
But I bet just some kale pectalin will take care of it. And Jeff is doing what Jeff does. He keeps everything nice and clean for us. And uh look at him. Hey, look at us. Jeff went and got his haircut today. Thank goodness. I was like, "Come on, go get a cut."
>> Hey, you girls stay up here. Hey, Phoebe. Phoebe Blueb Butt, let's go in the house. Come on. You want to go in?
I was going to let Thor go in a crate and Caleb come back out. Let's go in the house. Come on. Come on. You did what you were supposed to do. She came right outside and did her business. You want to go in, Thor?
Whoever wants to come in, I want Phoebe and Thor in for sure. Come on, baby. She just takes those steps like a little pro. Was it yesterday? Was her first day outside.
Come on, Phoebe. Phoebe, come on, baby.
Come on. Be my girl. Come on, Phoebe.
Phoebe, come on. Come on, baby.
I'll have to help you then. You're getting distracted. And I don't think I I don't mind leaving her out here if you're gonna watch her, but >> I'll watch her.
>> I got to go show the babies and I want to swap Thor and Caleb out. All right, I'll stay. You guys stay right there.
She's such a big girl. Look at her.
I'm so proud of this girl.
Um, she she did okay in her crate for the first part of the night. I mean, she cried a lot and I would tell her to shush and she would shush and then she'd start again. But I got to finish my sewing.
And then when I finished my sewing, after I read my Bible and said my prayers, I went and got her out. She wasn't crying anymore, but she was whimpering, and I couldn't take it. Miss Susie, Miss Susie was praying that uh we could get her crate get her adjusted to her crate life at night easy and uh because she doesn't like to be alone.
But um I broke down and I went and got her and I took her to bed with me and she snuggled right in and went to sleep.
But and I don't mind that. But I do have to get her crate trained so when we are gone that she will be okay in a crate and not stress or like today after I gave them medicine, I could put them in a crate and uh and her not stress. So as long as everybody else is in the crate beside her and she can see me or Jeff.
Hey. Oh, Miss Chloe, bring it back.
Oh, y'all, I got to tell you, um, Susie, I thought it was you that sent us these new toys and these new doggy treats, duck bites, but I found out last night it wasn't Miss Susie. It was a a family that have one of our puppies. Thor, come and get in your crate.
There you go. There you go. Get in there. Hey, step on in. Thank you.
I gave them one to Thor and one to Caleb because they are the ones that are in and out of the crates the most and they are also the ones that compete with each other. Whichever toy one of them has picked out, the other one decides they want it. So, I gave both of them the new toy that Maryanne uh Choke sent to us.
Maryanne got one of our puppies from Chloe and Thor's last litter. Not Chloe and uh Caleb have um gave us a little Champ, but Winston looks just a lot like Champ. The same coloring and everything, but different structure cuz it's Thor is the dad. And they got him back in January.
He was born in November.
And he does look a lot like this one, but this one looks so much like Caleb.
And uh Winston looks just like Thor except with Chloe's coloring.
So anyway, thank you, Maryanne, for uh blessing us with toys and treats that we I didn't know who sent them. I had just assumed it was Miss Susie cuz she does that sometimes. And I had chatted on the phone with Miss Lynn and she didn't say anything about it, but she also sends us stuff sometimes. And I I usually don't get a name, especially if it comes from Amazon. Uh they just put Amazon or or the or my name on it, but it doesn't say who I got it from. So anyway, we really appreciate it. I gave them all some of the duck bites when they went in their crate after they got their worm medicine. So, um, that was just really nice. And then, um, the only reason I found out is Maryanne and I had been chatting. She's sending me some new mats for um, the play pins, too. And after that, she watched our video yesterday and she saw where I I said something about getting uh surprise toys and I didn't know who they were from. So, she messaged me back and said, "Oh, yeah, those are from us."
I also wanted to show y'all something and just kind of tell you I u sent off for the AKC registration on my little girl Phoebe today and I wanted to talk about that a minute and just kind of let you know if you don't already know when you register a Boston Terrier of a color it's a little bit different whenever you get a puppy whenever you get one of our puppies or anybody's with AKC registration, you're going to get an application to register that puppy. And normally you can register them right online or you can mail in this application, the hard copy and do it.
But for colored Bostons, they like for you, they have their standard colors and these are codes and then they have limited stuff for a colored Boston. So, the way we do it is we fill out the application and of course it has the breeder's signature on it where I got the puppy and if you're getting one of my puppies, it would have to have my signature on it and then the new owner's information and you email it. So to do that, I had to uh take two pictures and then turn those JPGs into a PDF and attach it to my email. Plus, you have to send uh I don't know, I think it's three photos of the puppy, but I sent five just to make sure they could see she is Boston terror and she is her blue, white, and brindle colors. So, that's how you register a Boston Terror of color. It's done by email, but I again I still think you can send the hard copy in. I don't think you can send a copy, but um I recommend making a copy for yourself if you mail it in, but if you do it by email, it everything happens a lot faster. So, I did Phoebe's this morning and uh that should be coming back in three to four days that I should have her registration. They always check and make sure the name you've selected is not already taken. So, you want to be sure and use a unique name to try to avoid any delays because if if the name's already taken, they'll notify you and you'll have to come up with another name. So, and I think there you can go online and check on name status to make sure when you fill out your application or everything that the name you want to use is not already taken.
So, anyway, let me see if I can get this toy center out of here and I will get in here with these gorgeous babies. I gave them their uh first uh bimbendazol worm medicine today. They got that. Now, that was something else I just wanted to tell you. Um Phoebe, whenever you get a new puppy, there's a chance that they may have giardia or coxidia.
And Phoebe does not have it. So, I don't want you to think that, but um it's quite possible she could have had been exposed to it. She was from a multi- litter uh uh breeder and and they were all traveling and uh puppies even though as a breeder you treat them. That's why we we do the fimendazol and the pyrantal and we do it on schedule and by weight is to prevent them from getting diardia or coxidia. But there are things that can cause it to come pop out especially at the 8week age 8week old age when you're taking them away from the only home they've ever known and starting them into their new life. sometimes and most of the time puppies will stress.
Um, and you have to handle those puppies as as low stress as possible. Um, you know, we've been real careful with Phoebe. That's why for one, she's getting away with the uh sleeping with me and stuff because I didn't want her to overly stress and I could not get her straight into a vet for a thorough check right when I got her. So, I went ahead and treated her as if she may have been exposed. Um, there was reason to believe that one of the other puppies got a diagnosis from their vet that that had one or both of those, but I never saw any signs of it with Phoebe, but I kept her quarantined anyway, and I treated her anyway. So, I took her to the vet.
Yesterday was the earliest I could get her in. Shea, I don't want you coming in here. Nope. I don't want you nursing.
Nope. I'm going to feed him some milk in just a little while.
Anyway, uh the vet, she she got a clear check. They did a thorough fecal exam and there was nothing there. And um they uh they gave her a clean bill of health and that's why she's now going outside and why now she's not being kept in a play pin. and uh she gets and my vet was was of the same mind as I was. It was good to go ahead and treat her just because we don't know if she might have been exposed, but she herself did not have have anything. So, we were glad for that. So, Melissa, if you happen to be watching, I want you to know our girl got a clean bill of health. So, we are very pleased with that. But it is also, y'all, it is so possible. The breeder can do everything right and then you get your puppy and some puppies just stress more than others. And when they go through change and things are are new, um, they can stress and you may not even realize they're stressing, but it can cause giardia or coxidia to pop up and when you take them to the vet, they may get diagnosed with it. And then some vets diagnose them automatically. They just automatically new puppy, let's treat them for giardia and and coxidia.
It's just something that's easy to treat and and we all we do it as a preventative all through you know we start at two weeks old giving them warm medicine. Every two weeks they get wormed. Two and three weeks I did pyrantal. Today we did the four-week treatment which is uh safeguard or fimbendazol and they'll stay on fimendazol.
And then uh there's other uh medicines like cultural and stuff for uh coxidia if you need it and I just happen to have it on hand so I went ahead and used it for Phoebe. So anyway, she's doing great. These guys are doing great. And our goal is that they they do not have any outbreaks of of parasites of any kind. So, um, but it's not it's not always, you know, it's not always the breeders's fault if, uh, that does happen. It is quite common actually for a puppy to to uh, test positive for either one for for two reasons. either they have it, they've been exposed to it, or because your vet is just as cautious as I was with Phoebe and go, let's just treat them anyway and be safe. So, um, so I just thought that was interesting and would like to wanted to share that. I also want to share I saw this boy yesterday after we did our video. He He uh pranced right over to that litter tray and he got right up on top of it and he did the real thing. He did the real thing. He pottied like a big boy. And I love these litter trays because there's zero training. I mean, y'all seen I've set them both on at once. That's all. But they automatically You don't even have to do that. I've had litters who automatically start using it before I could ever set one up on there.
And it's it's they reach a certain age where their instincts kick in and they want to travel away from their play area or their sleeping area to potty and they will by instinct look for what they consider a desirable spot and they'll return to it over and over. So, uh, you can set these litter trays in here and they will use them. Now, I've had some litters that, uh, they would use it, but then there would be times they didn't and and I would help them then to try to Hey, Maggie, would you leave that baby toy alone? You little thief. You little thief. You're trying to steal it. But, uh, I was so proud, Champ. Champ is a big boy. Yes, he is. And so is Jake. I clipped both of them's nails today. I weighed them and I gave them their worm medicine and I was just trying to get through some the registration and and other stuff I do on the computer and uh get to where I can um get in here and and uh give them some uh goats milk, introduce them to some goats milk. I don't think these two boys are going to have much problem. They're going to probably take right up to it. And I really want to get the mas weaned. Hey, don't be rough with her, Magpie.
Maggie, be gentle. Oh, yeah. Bi, you better be gentle.
Get that ducky. Get that ducky.
But anyway, they're both doing so, so good. Yes, they are.
Yes, they are. Uh Jake actually lost a little bit of weight. He's really thinning thinning up a little bit. Uh the mas are not staying with them all night and they're not nursing day and night like they were. So they're starting to slim up a little. Champ still weighed um almost 4 lb. So but Jake is just under three lbs now. So, we'll get him on that goat's milk and then some puppy mush and and he'll take off and start gaining again.
Hey, Maggie. Maggie. Maggie, play easy.
She's getting wild, but it's cuz you're making her that way.
BB Reeba, do not double team on her.
Oh, Phoebe.
Oh, she thinks she's a big dog.
All right. Hey. Hey. Shh. I guess I'm going to have to intervene.
Yeah. Run, Maggie. Run, Maggie. Run.
Goodness. Phoebe.
Phoebe, you're getting too worked up.
Hey. Hi.
There you go. Good girl, Maggie. She can't get on the couch yet, can she? No, she can't. Look at this one. Oh my goodness.
Little baby butts that think they're so big.
They just think they're a big dog.
I told you Jake was going to start holding his own. Champ is a little bit of a bully only because Jake doesn't wasn't able to do a whole lot about it.
Jake could uh or Champ could just kind of run him over and he just lay there.
But now he's getting getting a little more mature where he can stand up to it and and bulldoze him right back. Yeah.
Watch him come and get him. Here. Come and get him. He's just as honory as champ is.
They just think they're I guess they are. You know, the Boston Terriers are a big dog in a little body.
They just are. And they're born that way.
There's a big dog in the little body.
Champ.
Jake. You don't have to take it.
Oh my goodness.
Now you're making Jake mad.
All right. All right. Get off of there.
Get up from there. Get on your feet, boys. Oh, y'all.
They just look like little bears.
Jake's a little bit mad.
But now he'll go play.
Come back for more.
Oh my goodness. They do crack me up.
This is our constant entertainment day and night. It doesn't take much to stir them up. They were all sleeping real nice in their crate and doing good and I had to go and let them out.
I try to let the babies mature. You know, I I'm right here to intervene, but she has to do some of that to learn the rules and and the adults will teach her because she doesn't have a filter yet.
She doesn't know how to control her her little tantrums too much. That's what we're dealing with with the crate training, too. But she will. A little bit of playing with the older dogs will teach her a lot faster than me.
And Maggie's been excellent with her.
I've just loved how Maggie has done.
Maggie has not had wanted anything to do with any of my litters since Maggie was born, except the litter she was born in.
She she played just like these guys, but as she became a house dog and and we had u multiple litters, she would always get out of reach. She didn't want to be around them. She didn't She was overwhelmed by them. And this time she's really taken up with Phoebe in a good way. I'm just real pleased with that.
But I don't leave Phoebe outside with them. And I try not to leave the room with her out with them. Y'all want to go back out? Come on, Phoebe.
You can go outside.
She's a little big dog. A big little dog. Heck, get off of me, Caleb.
So, anyway, I'm glad the rain has kind of dried up a little bit. Uh, it's not all that muddy, but it is dirty.
It's muggy, too. It's real muggy. There she goes. Right. She learned those steps. And I I helped her up and down once or twice. And after that, she took them like a pro. Except Caleb tries to knock her off when she's trying to come up. mainly waits until she gets up high and then he he bumps her back down.
All right, you guys do not do not play soccer ball with her. Maggie, you play easy.
Maggie.
Oh, Phoebe, you're getting the rough rough knocks, aren't you?
I'm gonna take Phoebe and go back in and you guys can stay out. So anyway, what are you doing, Jeff?
>> I'm walking from home.
>> Where are you?
>> Right here around the corner.
>> Well, I'm going to leave you with the dogs. I'm going to take Phoebe in. Oh, she just tumbled down the steps.
Maggie, quit. Quit.
Anyway, I'm going to get in and see what else I need to get caught up on. We have uh we're going to get to go have dinner with my grandson or my son-in-law and my grandson tonight. Come on, Phoebe.
You come here. Oh, I got you. Oh, you're icky. Anyway, we're going to go have dinner with family this evening and uh I got to get caught up on stuff. Reba, you go. Everybody stay out. You guys stay out. You go in there and behave.
There. There.
There's our gorgeous babies again. And I want to get them on some uh warm goats milk. Mama's wanting to nurse, so I want to get to him before she does. So, and then I can let Mr. Thor out of the crate. You want to get out? You can stay in the house with us. We're the We're the calmer bunch. The wild bunch is outside.
We keep Oh, you're not getting Caleb's toy. You got a brand new toy of your own. Thank you again, Maryanne. We really appreciate that. And I can't wait to get the new mats. That's going to be nice, too. So, I just love it when people uh y'all don't really know how much we appreciate new toys and and mats. Anything for the dogs always blesses us. Treats, whatever. and and everybody sends us something, you know, all the time. It's just real nice. So, please know we do appreciate it. Shea, why don't you get in your crate with your toy? Get in your crate, Sheba. Your crate. Uh-uh. Get in your crate. There you go. Good. Get in there and I'll shut the door for you. There you go. She won't stay probably. No. Anyway, I'm going to get off of here. Y'all have a blessed day and I'll be back tomorrow.
