The United States and Iran are negotiating a draft agreement to reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz, a major oil route, over 60 days in exchange for the US gradually withdrawing its naval blockade of Iranian ports; however, neither President Trump nor Iran's Supreme Leader has given final approval, and the deal does not address Iran's nuclear program.

The Streamline: Friday, May 29Added:
After trading surprise strikes this week, the US and Iran are apparently on the brink of a deal to reopen a critical oil route. Time for the streamline.
Everything you need to know in 10 minutes or less. US officials say a draft agreement would extend the ceasefire and Iran would gradually reopen the straight of Hormuz over 60 days. In exchange, the US would slowly pull back its naval blockade of Iranian ports. But neither President Trump nor Iran's Supreme Leader have given their final approval.
>> I think it's hard to say exactly when or if the president is going to sign theou.
>> The potential deal does not include a solution to Iran's nuclear program, but reopening the straight of Hormuz could drive down gas prices. The US has committed to discussing sanctions relief during the negotiation period.
A massive explosion overnight at Cape Canaveral. That's a Blue Origin rocket.
exploded on the launchpad there during an engine test. Nobody was on board. All the workers are safe. The explosion though destroyed the $320 New Glenn rocket. This comes just days after NASA gave Blue Origin a nearly $500 million contract for moon missions. Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos says the company will rebuild, but experts predict long delays. The destroyed launchpad was the only one equipped for the new Glenn rocket.
Oh, that is scary. That crash in Claremont sent a Tesla slamming into that house. It injured six people. ABC 10 News reporter Ryan Hill has a closer look at the damage.
>> I spoke to the person who owns this home on Chateau Drive in Claremont about what happened Thursday morning. Take a look for yourself. He says that he heard the initial crash happened just up the road first, then a louder bang, dust all over, and found a car in his living room.
>> All I know is that we were sitting in our offices. Uh I think she was on a my wife was on a call and I was uh responding to emails.
>> A calm Thursday workday turning into something unbelievable for Jose Via Seenor and his wife. heard a loud crash outside and then it turned into a second crash and that's when uh we saw dust and you know obviously a car was in our living room.
>> A neighbor security camera on the corner of Diane Avenue in Chateau Drive in Claremont capturing the moments of a twocar crash and one of them flying into Via Seenor's home. You can see the gray SUV slow down as it's rearended by the red Tesla.
>> Told my wife, "Let's get out of the house. Get out. Get out. Get out." We came outside and just saw the destruction just in disbelief. I mean, I did not know what happened other than there was a car in our living room. So, like I said, I just wanted to get us out. I still have taste of whatever dust came out of the house or the car. A spokesperson for San Diego Fire Rescue tells me there were five people, four adults and one child inside the red Tesla and another driver was in the gray Mercedes SUV. According to the fire department, two people were taken to the hospital with major injuries and the other had minor injuries.
>> Fire marshall has arrived and red tagged the house for now. Again, just check checking for structural stability.
>> They did assist us with grabbing our personal effects out of the house, change of clothes and stuff like that cuz we might be end up ended up at a hotel tonight and for I don't know for a while. Via Seenor tells me he's thankful he and his wife weren't hurt, but warned it's not the first time there have been incidents at the intersection.
>> Constantly hear uh cars honking, screeching, coming to a halt, you know, and just hear the noise all the time, but I never thought that this was going to happen to my house.

>> Maya Millete's siblings took the stand in the murder trial of her husband.
Larry Millete is accused of killing Maya. Her body has never been found. No cameras are allowed in the courtroom, but you saw that we have video of the siblings testifying during the preliminary hearing back in 2023. J.R.
Tabalanza told jurors Thursday that Larry asked for help saving his marriage. He says Larry also talked about Maya's affair partner. Jurors saw text messages from Maya as well. She described years of mental and emotional abuse to her brother. The trial resumes on Monday. The state is stepping in to help protect houses of worship following the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Governor Gavin Newsome announced roughly $80 million awarded to nonprofits and faith-based groups through the state's nonprofit security grant program. It will pay for upgrades like surveillance cameras, reinforced doors and alarm systems.
Leaders at H of San Diego say the money is critical for safety. We are so beyond grateful for the state for helping make that happen, which is going to cover security hardening features and armed guards at both of our properties. More than 300 organizations will receive this funding. Some of the local groups include several Habads, Christian churches, the Girl Scouts, and the North County LGBTQ Resource Center. State officials also say families impacted by the mosque shooting can apply for financial help. Mayor Todd Gloria recently unveiled his revised budget for the city of San Diego. It restores a lot of the cuts from his initial proposal while leaving some on the table. This morning, Gloria explains to ABC 10 News anchor Kimberly Hunt about the challenges he faced in this edition of 10 Talks.
>> It's very easy to say that everything's a priority, that nothing's going to be cut. That's just not what my job is. I work with our accounting staff, our finance people. I look at the numbers and I can see very clearly what's happening. And it doesn't mean that there's not a healthy back and forth.
That is a part of our democracy. That's why we are proud to be Americans. Right?
Here's the deal. Um, we went about this year differently in hopes of avoiding what we saw last year where I felt as though the additions the the spending that was being recommended was beyond what the city could afford. And I think time has proven me correct because we are back here again with needing to make reductions. Um, how do we do things differently? I started much earlier talking very clearly with council members. What is your priority? What do you want? You saw a resident survey, the first time ever we sent it out and over 13,000 San Dieans responded to it. And what they said is their priorities are very similar to mine. They want to see public safety. They're very frustrated about the condition of our roads and they want to see action on homelessness.
So that's what you see reflected in our draft budget. I think those folks weighing in both on the survey and in person um hopefully we'll explain to the council we have to prioritize and this is how we will do that. Um and importantly what you saw this year the council last year was very frustrated about what they perceived to be across the board cuts. Um and what I did was present them with now with options right so it isn't uh we're cutting x number of hours from every library in the city. uh we can uh undertook that survey I mentioned a moment ago where we looked at each facility including like the age of the facility. You know last year the council restored a number of library hours across the city but some of those libraries were still not open because their plumbing was falling apart or their roof was leaking, right? And so when we're making reductions, okay, let's let's reduce the ones where we know have problems. In this case, Ocean Beach and Rancho Bernardo will be closed for the next couple of years because we're going to repair them so they actually function rather than, you know, dripping water on on people trying to read books, right? So, we started earlier, consulted the public, gave the council options, and you know, after multiple years of deficits, I'm thinking they're going to get the picture that we really only have tough choices to make.
>> And the full conversation is on our YouTube page. Later today, we shift from the budget to a new role Gloria will be taking on and why he feels it could benefit San Diego.
