Green infrastructure refers to natural systems that cities can implement to create thriving public spaces for both humans and wildlife, offering benefits such as flood mitigation, wildlife habitat restoration, and community connection, and can be achieved through various approaches from large-scale urban renaturalization projects to individual actions like planting rain gardens and choosing native species.

Why Does Green Infrastructure Matter #envirocentre #shorts #torontoAdded:
What you see behind me used to be a parking lot. I think part of what is so exciting to me about visiting places like this is that they prove that green infrastructure works. We have cities spending millions and in this case over a billion dollars renaturalizing spaces, letting natural systems come back and do the work that they know how to do, creating spaces where people can come together and connect, where wildlife is thriving and we can spend time in community with each other and with the more than human world. And if you don't have a cool billion dollars lying around, you can still implement green infrastructure in your own life. You can support a tiny forest planting, you can plant a rain garden, you can choose native species for your lawn and for your garden. With green infrastructure, we can create thriving public spaces for humans and all of the species that we share this city with.
