This video effectively deconstructs the common misconception of dopamine, shifting the focus from the reward itself to the addictive power of anticipation. It provides a clear neurological framework for understanding why we remain perpetually hooked on the digital "chase."

1954, McGill University. One Experiment changed everything.
Added:In 1954, two neuroscientists at McGill University accidentally hit a specific region of a rat's brain while implanting electrodes. James Olds and Peter Milner.
The rat with that electrode would press a lever to stimulate it over and over again, thousands of times per hour. It skipped food, skipped water, skipped everything just to press the lever one more time. That region was what we now call the dopamine system. But here's what took scientists decades to fully understand. Dopamine doesn't fire when you get something good. It fires when you think you might. Stanford neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky spent years proving this. Dopamine is not the pleasure chemical, it's the anticipation chemical, the maybe chemical, the what if chemical. And every time you swipe, every time you refresh, you're pressing that same lever. Maybe this one will be funny, maybe this one will be important, maybe this one will actually change something. It almost never does, but almost never is enough. Because your brain keeps releasing dopamine for the anticipation of the reward, not the reward itself.
