Governments implementing emergency powers may restrict citizens' rights to protest and free speech, even when those same leaders previously advocated for those rights during opposition, demonstrating the potential for political hypocrisy in the exercise of emergency powers.

PM Kamla Returns Back To Her Own Vomit | Protesters She Once Defended She Is Now ArrestingAdded:
There have been some new regulations coming out to add to what already exists uh as it relates to the state of emergency.
So, I want to bring your attention Trinidad and Tobago to legal notice number 40.
And it's number 40 of 2026.
And it's really in a bid to protect you, our public, to protect our public spaces, to protect our citizenry at large. So, certain places have now been set, you know, apart from uh as normal places where you can execute and and perform your protests.
And these there are 15 such places named, and I will uh name them for you this afternoon.
Starting with the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. So, the order So, let let me just read from the half the beginning so that you would be properly like properly enlightened.
The order may be cited as the emergency powers prohibition of public protests and demonstrations order 2026.
A person who is participating in a public protest demonstration shall not be at or within 500 m of premises and curtilage of a place specified in the schedule.
And these places are the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the office of the president of Trinidad and Tobago, the office of the prime minister, the diplomatic center, the office of the attorney general, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Homeland Security, the headquarters of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, the headquarters of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, the headquarters of the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Piarco International Airport, the ANR Robinson International Airport, the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.
These places that it does not say that you are not allowed to to venture into these places. It does not say that you are not allowed to pass near these places. It is just saying that you are not allowed to to participate in public protest demonstrations within the curtilage of these and and we give a a space of what? Uh 500 m.
>> So, what you have just heard is one of the ACPs of the TTPS, um designating or declaring 15 no protest zones where people cannot go and make their voices heard. And most of them are governmental institutions. They are institutions where the people are feeling that their needs are not being met. So, when you look at the places they have been redirected to, okay? Where the government have redirected them, where they can protest, it just does not make sense. What is the point of going to a place where your voices cannot be heard. All right? What is the point of protesting in an environment where those who are not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Those who needs to be held accountable cannot hear you.
That it it just does not make sense.
But, what I really do want to get to is this. The SOE, the hypocrisy when it comes to the SOE and PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her administration.
Now, when PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar was in opposition, she was very vocal of the SOE that was imposed on the people of Trinidad and Tobago by the PNM government. She said that the SOE is a weapon being used against the people to muzzle their rights of free speech and expression. Take a listen.
>> chaotic. Then you want to arrest people for the this really offensive crime of sedition that has been there from way back when through the colonial powers that be to really suppress people, to suppress people raising their voices, to suppress people from having different opinions. That's what that was used for.
And this government has brought it back and is indeed using it. So, what does all this mean? It means we must stand up for rights.
You must stand up for your rights. You must stand up and express your opinion.
Do not be coward. Do not be shamed.
Do not be afraid.
We have to stand up.
>> So, my question to PM Kamla is this, Madam Prime Minister, what have happened to your advocacy of people, the people of Trinidad and Tobago standing up for their rights and opinion?
Now, you are in government. You are the one in charge of the country. The same voice that you used to defend the rights and opinion of people when they protest, you are you are now arresting them.
It is pure and outright hypocrisy. And that is why I tell you guys, politics is a bunch of lies. It is a game. It is you cannot trust politicians.
And she did make mention to the colonial powers that be and she's now that very same person who is joining the colonial powers to oppress the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Not only Not only Trinidad and Tobago, no. She's joining the colonial powers to destabilize and oppress the entire Caribbean region.
Yes, and we have seen it a few months ago, few weeks ago, you know, where and even now in Cuba as we see that Trump and his administration, they are planning to take you know, take Cuba, to seize Cuba.
She, her government, and of a uh Ian of an ally in Guyana have refrained in joining their CARICOM colleagues in condemning the moves against Cuba.
Pure and outright hypocrisy. The SOE, brothers and sisters, is being used as a weapon to muzzle and to restrict the the the people of Trinidad and Tobago in rising up and speaking against the unjust system that they are now facing.
That's the truth and matter about it.
That's the truth and the matter about it. Until then, let me know what are your thoughts in the comment section below. Take care and God bless you.
