Industrial organic vegetable production often relies on approved organic chemicals to maintain soil fertility, but true soil health requires integrating ruminant animals (such as sheep and cattle) into the farming system. These animals cycle nutrients through biological processes, feed soil microbes and fungi, stimulate root exudates that pump carbon into the soil, and build soil structure and water infiltration. This creates a living, symbiotic relationship between soil microbiology and plant root systems that synthetic inputs cannot replicate.

The Missing Ingredient with Industrial Organic VegetablesAdded:
I want to share with you what we mean when we say old school organic when it comes to how we grow our produce.
But first let me explain how it's done at the industrial scale like you're seeing at Costco and Walmart.
Those are massive facilities, massive land tracks, and they are in vegetables production, vegetables production, year after year after year. And that alone will deplete the soil.
If you do not integrate animals, a ruminant in particular to that system, you will deplete the soil of life and therefore you will need those organically approved chemicals that you need to feed the plants.
What we do is the old-school way of integrating livestock.
Two years ago this was a pasture being grazed by sheep. Then those sheep were overwintered in a paddock and fed in this area.
Then they came through, we tilled this, planted all these strawberries, so all of that life is now naturally abundant.
And what it gives you is a system of living symbiotic relationships where the soil microbiology interacts with the plant root systems, the plant harnesses the sun's energy, and they work together to produce what?
Well, in this case, my friends, amazing strawberries that are about ready to come on in a big way.
