Do you spend more time thinking about not losing or focusing on winning and making good things happen? When we play with fear, we tend to spend more time focusing on what we don't want to have happen. I've got to minimize mistakes. I can't mess up. I can't lose today. I can't strike out. What that does is it puts us in this defensive mindset where we are playing timidly and holding ourselves back. Try to use your self-t talk to focus instead on what you want to have happen. Not purely in terms of the results, but thinking things like, I'm going to go out here and make an impact. I'm going to contribute. I'm going to attack the ball right here. I'm going to be aggressive. I'm going to have a good at bat. It's natural to think about everything we want to avoid, but there is a very real effect that that has on the way we play. And that's why we might find ourselves holding ourselves back, playing timidly, playing scared. So, shift that to focusing on these positives and what you want to have happen. And that's going to help you play more aggressively, play more freely, and ultimately lead to these good things happening.
