Political cartoons serve as powerful visual commentary on complex political issues, using satire and metaphor to critique government policies like tax reforms and to illustrate political party dynamics, such as the emergence of the Teal movement and the challenges facing traditional political parties.

Tax reform and The Enhanced Games in political cartoons on Talking Pictures | Insiders | ABC NEWSAdded:
[music] >> I'm Mike Bowers and I'm photographer at large for the New Daily. I'm talking pictures this morning with nine news federal political reporter Amanda Copp and a very warm welcome.
>> Hello.
>> It's been over two weeks since the budget, but the arguments over whether tax reforms are on the money are still raging.
>> They sure are and we've got this one here from David Rowe as leaked.
>> It's really a pitchfork in the road for this budget.
>> It really is. It's all just part and parcel of the usual healthy consultation process.
>> Is it though?
>> [laughter] >> I don't know. I mean look, you've got all the start-up small businesses. Labor was doing quite well with businesses for a long time and suddenly this budget it's mask off.
>> Yeah. Love this Brett Lethbridge cartoon channeling the enhanced games where all the drugged up people didn't do so well.
>> Hopefully Albo's probably thinking that that 94 seat majority won't be the same kind of let down.
>> Yeah. All hat advantage and no glory.
>> I know, says poor Albo.
>> Lovely David Rowe cartoon. Sent Jim here fighting the hydra.
>> Yeah, well, look, you cut off one head and two more appear. And what's this here? We've got Albo hiding in a tree over here.
>> Yeah, well, poor old Jim does hard work here holding the hydra off. Hello Michelle. Hi, yes, good news, but now's not a good time. Scare campaign, CGT, inflation.
>> And negative gearing and all that stuff.
>> gearing, etc., etc. >> He's dealing [clears throat] with a lot.
>> Fiona Katauskas has drawn the long and winding road. If you can get past a mountain of memes, over the veil of tears and through the terra australis, you just might make it.
>> People they call for reform and then as soon as someone tries to take this long journey, suddenly no one wants it anymore.
>> Amanda, the rumors of teals might be formally banding together, but not everyone seems to be coming to the party. Cathy Wilcox has picked up on this beautifully with the coming soon to a ballot paper near you.
>> I think that my favorite has got to be the wacky bill is. Why are there so many of them?
>> Lovely Warren, he's they're not a party, they're just party adjacent.
>> Yeah, they're just just so happened that they're all wearing exactly the same color.
>> Teal wearing people who are truly really independent and just happen to gather here quite by chance.
>> I know, let's form a political party.
>> What a great idea.
>> I never thought of that.
>> Lovely Peter Broman has got Angus in there for the eye test, which is clearer A or B?
>> And we've got here the teal and One Nation.
>> Yeah.
>> Teal and orange now rather than red and blue. Poor old Mr. Voter, it's all just a blur.
>> I only wear glasses for reading the polls.
>> [laughter] >> Harry Bruce has picked up on party time.
He's got the cocktail party.
>> The bush doof.
>> And and the wake here for the Liberal Party.
>> Who's this in the coffin? I reckon that's probably Tony Abbott about to be resurrected.
>> It's alive.
One of the more bizarre events this week was the the Nationals called a press conference at the front of Parliament.
They were calling for an immediate election because of the broken promises, but it struck me as ironic that none of them would be there on the current polling.
>> Yeah, they'd all just get booted out.
>> Maybe they're calling for early retirement. [laughter] >> They've all had enough.
>> Amanda, it's Reconciliation Week.
Indigenous leader Travis Lovett completed a 900 km walk to Canberra.
>> This was a quite a beautiful moment.
It's very rare for the Prime Minister to actually show up, so I thought that was a real mark of respect.
>> Yeah, there's an illumination on the front of Parliament by a Walmajarri artist from Rubibi Broom called John Prince Siddon.
>> It's a gorgeous piece.
>> It's a really beautiful illumination.
It's been a great pleasure unpicking events this week. I'll let you do the honors.
>> Back to you, Speersy.
>> Mhm.
