What It Really Means to Care for Your Spouse

[00:00:00]When her boyfriend Omar proposed, Trevino immediately started thinking about how to include the class. So, [music] she turned to them for marriage tips. The marriage advice I give my teacher is care for each other and love her. Kids are amazing.

[00:00:15]And that is actually really good advice.

[00:00:18]I don't know how in the world a second grader knows enough about the word care to actually define what it really means.

[00:00:26]The word care means the provision of what is needed for the well-being or the protection of a person. When I think about doing things to enrich the well-being of my wife, [music] this is what I'm thinking about. What is it that that she likes from me to feel loved?

[00:00:43]How can I nourish her? What are the little things that I can be doing?

[00:00:48]Ephesians 5:29 talks about nourishing each other. And so, ask your spouse, what is it that when I do it, helps you to feel loved? That's what is meant by taking [music] great care of their well-being. The other part of that is protection. It's protecting your spouse not only from outside threats. [music] Last night, 2:00 a.m., we hear this huge noise. Erin and I jump out of bed. Our dogs are going crazy. We're thinking there's an intruder. I mean, you've had those moments. You're walking around not sure if you're going to find someone in your home. But boy, I was there. Erin was right next to me. [music] We were there to help protect each other. I think a big part of protection though is not just that I'm going to protect you from an outside threat, but I'm also going to be aware of inside threats. Well, what about my stuff? The the junk that I've brought into my marriage, my personal issues. I want to keep dealing [music] with those things. That's a big part of how I can continue to protect her. You know what? Sometimes the clearest picture of a healthy marriage doesn't come from the experts. Comes from second graders.
