Developing Air Suspension for LibertyWalk's New AMG GT63
Added:Okay, let's test drive the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT63 on our air suspension. This is the Remacon right here. Let's go up.
All right.
Suspension noise so far, nothing. This is the brand new Mercedes-Benz [music] AMG GT. And this car is commissioned to us by Liberty Walk. They need something from us that as of now only we can provide in Japan. We are tasked [music] to develop a brand new air suspension kit for this new platform of AMG GT because this specific car has active hydraulic suspension which means it has [music] no sway bars which also means we cannot remove the OEM dampers. Has to be used for this conversion. And what makes it worse is we have to [music] not remove those hydraulic lines. Removing those hydraulic lines will be a very expensive reblleeding process that only [music] the dealership can do. So this is the task that we have to finish. Lift it up for you. One, two, three.
You got it.
Okay, we're pretty much good.
Clearance is okay as well. Okay, we have successfully mocked up the front. This is not yet the final product. The bottom end is 3D printed. Remember that. Top end is metal, but so far this is what it looks like. Clearance check. Backside good plates on the bottom. Good. The arms are far away from the airbag. We already simulated that a while ago. So now we proceed to the rear. Hopefully we get the same result with the rear. And that's it. We can have this machined. We do have to make a new shock mount because that's sitting a bit high for us. We can or may not use it, but for us right now, we're leaning towards a new one. So, that's it. Going to the rear now. So, there were a lot of unknowns when we were building this car, and [music] we didn't even know if it was possible to convert it while not removing the shock from the [music] wheel well. Usually, we have to remove it. So, we can measure it, can convert it properly. But thankfully, [music] this car has enough space to do the conversion.
For the rear side, same thing. We have finished converting it. This is a mockup again.
Plates on the bottom, plates on the top.
Shock mounts OEM. Not a lot of clearance to worry about on the rear. The front's fighter. Let's now jack up the car and see.
>> Still holding the weight. Yep. Okay.
Same same drop on the front.
>> Oh yeah, that's the last thing we need to do is the top hats. I'll need to do it today.
Okay. All right. So, as you saw, we're pretty much done with the development of the suspensions. Now, we need to produce it. And from there, we'll get to slam the AMG GT without removing the hydraulic suspension. We probably need to start doing the electricals, but first bumpers so Liberty Walk can visit and start doing some scans. Okay, let's go.
All right, welcome back to the AMG GT 63 by Liberty Walk, commissioned to us by Liberty Walk. And today we're going to continue the video. Pardon me. When I started this video, I didn't feel or I started editing the first part of this video, I did not feel confident of what I was saying. I felt like I was new to vlogging again. So, I'm a bit rusty back then. So, we're going to recap everything, refresh all the info.
Hopefully, you guys will be able to understand what we're doing here and why is this important to me for me to vlog it. Recap. AMG GT63 has hydraulic suspension, an OEM hydraulic suspension, meaning there is no sway bars and there's a hydraulic line in the struts.
If we remove the struts, we bust open the pressure and we have to [music] reblade the system.
[laughter] >> Let's just wait for it. All right. So, after the announcement, here it is. Let me show you the fronts already torn down here. This is the hydraulic lines. It's easier to see on the rear. See how the hydraulic lines, there's two lines, an in and a return, and it goes into the shock right there. That's a challenge, right? How do you slam a car without removing the struts? Well, we've already done it. [music] On the other side, we finished the conversion. Here it is.
We have successfully converted the AMG GT63 without removing the strut. And everything is OE as as much as we can.
aluminum plates, our airbag, aluminum shock mount, pillow ball bushings, aluminum top plates. You can actually see the shafting poking out there. So, we didn't video this part because we wanted to focus on doing it properly.
We're going to show you how we did it on the other side, but [music] for now, this is the progress. It's looking good.
Everything tied up here, the hose lines and the fittings is done. This car is ready to drop after. Okay, the front side is also finished.

Thanks Jay. So we kept everything as factory as possible without removing the hydraulic lines here. And just to show you guys the actual product, this is it.
This is the airbags, the aluminum plate conversion. This is a universal type. We 3D printed it first as you saw in the early part of the video. Before we do any machining, we do a 3D print mockup.
Okay, let me flip it over like this. So, that's 3D printed. It is the aluminum.
This is the beauty of 3D printing. We can mock up everything, measure everything so that we have full travel before we even do the machining. For the rears, same thing, just a little bit shorter. Okay.
And this is the manufacturing proess of fitment engineering. I guess like a flex for you guys. You're welcome. So, shock mount as well. This is the factory shock mount.
We omitted the factory shock mount because it's a bit tall. Right, Jay? So, it's thick and it's a rubber type, a rubber bushing type. We have now went for a solid pillow ball bushing. Okay.
We also have a 3D print of this, but I threw it away already. It's okay, bro.
Don't have to show them. It's pretty self-explanatory.
This is the first AMG GT 63 that will be slammed in Japan, I think, and in the rest of the world, >> probably. So, time lapse. Let's finish this car. So, hopefully after all of those explanations, now [music] you guys understand the scope of work we needed to do for this car. Having successfully convert [music] one side, all we have to do on this side is just do the same thing. It's actually nice that [music] we're documenting everything cuz recently after posting the photos on Instagram, there's a lot of people with AMG GTS messaging us. Same generation that wants either a lift kit or a air suspension kit. So, with this video, we [music] can guide our clients on how to do it themselves when they acquire this exact [music] kit for the exact same car. Cuz remember, we can't remove the dampers. We can't send new ones. So they have [music] to work the same way we converted this specific car. And so after the suspension, we [music] move on to the electricals. It's a fairly straightforward thing to do. Remove the panels, wire everything, and of course after all of that, put everything back.
All right, we got it on the floor. Let's check the max air up.
Rears are good, fronts are good. Okay. I mean, there's nothing to hit, so let's just slam it.
It's on the floor, bro. Oh my god, that's very low.
Slammed. Okay, so in this part of the video, Liberty Walk actually visited [music] us to scan the car. That's why the bumpers were removed. So, this is Kawamurasan from Liberty Walk. He is in charge for the body kit design and scanning and development. So, he's the guy that makes the kits and it was a pleasure [music] working with him. The next day, after all of those scanning, our task is to put everything back together. It's easier said than done.
This car has so many clips, so many bolts, so we have to put everything back together the way it should be. So, despite the fact that the car [music] will indeed get a Liberty Walk body kit, a full custom one, we still have to put [music] everything back together because we are we will present it to Katosan and everyone else from the Liberty Walk team. [music] They want to see it with the stock body slams the floor so they can visualize what the kit will look like down the road. So, after almost 3 weeks of development, the car is finally back on its foot outside the shop.
finally going to get its first wash after all of those time being wrenched on. So, I'm very happy with this car so far. Very proud of [music] this project.
As I've said, this was a very tough job, but I'm proud to say that we are the [music] only ones so far in Japan that can offer this service to Liberty Walk and everyone else.
Finally got good weather today to wash the bends. It's a clear sunny sky and we're going to take out the AMG GT for the final checks.
I am still in disbelief that this car will be in Tokyo Salon with my products.

Let's go comfort mode. It will soften the suspension. And then let's go to B2. We're going to have to change the presets, but so far it's good. So, this is what I do when I sus tune suspensions.
I need to go through bumps and bruises.
I have a course here. I already know what to expect. See, it's multiple manholes here.
So, it's a controlled environment, so to speak. And then from there, I get data feedback, and then I keep driving the car until I'm happy with the suspension ride quality. So for this Benz, I can only adjust the pressure of the airbags because it's not a adjustable damping.
The adjustable damping is on the sport mode and the comfort mode and sport plus such. So that's why.
So we're here at our favorite place to do photo shoots and to look at the car.
