Ah not only it is a vote taking ceremony but in a way it is also BJP celebrations ah for coming to power ah for the third state term ah in Assam. This is will this will be the launch of the NDA 3. Ah government in Assam and more so for Himata Vishwa Sharma. ah it was in 2021 that he became the chief minister and BJP came to power for the second time and in the last five years he has not only led the state but also in the campaign ah he had led the party in the campaign in Assamese has played a crucial role in the campaign in West Bengal as well and there for a time he is going to be the chief minister for the second state term so Himanta's second innings would start along with Himanta Vishwa Sharma four other ministers ah Ajanta Neog who is who was the senior most minister in the previous government.
Ah She is the woman face of the government. She was the Finance Minister in the previous Simanta Vishwa Sharma Government. She is going to take oath. Also the President of the Main LI of BJP in Assam. Assam Gana Parishad. Ah Atul Boda. He is all he also has been a minister since 2016 he is going to take oath. So ah this is the team which is going to take out today in the presence of host of dignitaries here at the Khana Khanapara Field. You can see here people have already started to come in. Thank you so much.
As you can tell, it is all set for a massive political show of strength as Him Vishwa Sharma prepares to take oath for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister. This way, the ceremony at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and also several senior NDA leaders. More than 20 Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from across the country are expected to attend this event. Turning this into a major national level NDA gathering. Even before the grand swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati, suspense continues over the final shape of the new NDA cabinet with Hemant Vishwa Sharma indicating that around 18 to 19 ministers are likely to be inducted into this new government. Speaking to the media head of the ceremony, Hemant Vishwa Sharma said, no final decision has been taken yet regarding the name. Adding that the cabinet list will be finalised only after discussions with the BJP National President JP Nadda and Assam BJP in-charge Nitin Abhiyan. The BJP leadership means is striking a balance between experienced faces and fresh entrants as NDA 3.0 takes shape in this state. But Mr Sharma said, the people of Assam have given the NDA a clear mandate and assured that the new government would continue to work steadily for the welfare and development of the state over the next five years. The BJP led alliance returns to power with a massive mandate as you know making this the NDA's third executive term in Assam here are the crucial political reactions we have lined up for you listen in our new ministry is going to take oath and in this ceremony the respected Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi ji will also participate along with him Home Minister of India Amit Shah ji, Defence Minister Rajnath ji and Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers of all the NDA ruled states, presidents of the constituent parties of our NDA, many people will come.
Some people associated with the industry will also come. The list is just 18 and 19 names. So there is no need to make any list. That is in my memory itself. Meaning s of now, before discussion with him, I can't say anything because I have to go by the party's overall guidance. So, I may want to induct all new may be all old faces. So those I have to take the guidance, general guidance from my national president then only we can decide who will join, who will not join. The victory in Bengal means a lot to us and the way our NDA government has been formed once again in Assam with such a huge mandate. The credit for this goes to the people of both the states and the leadership of my Prime Minister.
A big victory here in Assam.
How do you see this and how important is it for BJP in the North East? No, it is very important. It is also important for the entire country. Without Bharatiya Janata Party, development can never happen.
You know that the Honorable Prime Minister said that there should be a developed India in 2047.
So if we have a double engine government in the entire country, every state will develop quickly. It will develop and the way Assam is changing in the last three years and three terms, it will change further and it will be better and you know Assam is a very big centre for us in the North East.
So you can call this a gateway. So it will develop and gradually the entire North East will develop.
You know, from starting out in the Congress and holding several important portfolios at the time, the party helped power to make a major political shift to the BJP about a decade back. Himanta Biswa Samvara has come a long way and post election results only made it clear that the next phase of his government would not be about big announcements but execution of what began in his first term in 2021. Our Editor and Chief Rahul Kawal has spoken exclusively to Himanta Biswa Sharma after the historic poll results. Here's what he told NDTV's Himanta Biswa Sharma. Century, that too with a hat-trick.
People felt there was uncertainty over what would happen in Tamil Nadu. There was suspense about West Bengal. How tight would the fight be in Kerala.
People were convinced that somewhere one verdict is quite clear, that of Assam. But you felt that you would register a century, such a big victory, crossing 73 to 102. Welcome and congratulations.
For us, it was expected primarily because in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, we registered victory in 94 assembly seats.
So ah we were around 100 ah number right from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. So we further consolidated and crossed 100 and we reads 102. So in Assam it was not a major surprise it was more and less expected that we will be somewhere around 95 to 100.
I also have the data of Lok Sabha of 2000-24.
Look at this map, BJP had 88 seats in it and now it has become 102, so to a great extent the saffron sweep in Assam has increased further.
When it comes with a hat-trick, generally an anti-incumbency kind of builds up at the time of a hat-trick.
But in a way you have washed away the anti-incumbency.
Congress was washed away. Even Gaurav Gogoi lost. I remember meeting you in Jorhat before the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. You had said Rahul, I am telling you in writing. You get it noted from me. I will defeat this. Whatever happens, Gaurav Gogoi won because he was not in a hurry.
This time you defeated me. What did you do this time that you couldn't do last time?
[nasal sound] Ah, I think that point of time he was not tested. But in last one year people of Jorhat could see him from a very close quarter and important point to note is that he not only lost his own seat he lost nine out of 10 in the entire Lok Sabha Constituency today in his constituency there is only one MLA that too from an alliance party Congress has now ah no MLA from the entire Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency. So it wasn't a defeat. It was a complete defeat in that sense of the term.
Okay Hemantada, right now you are live on all the channels of NDTV. You are also live on NDTV India, so I am asking you questions in Hindi and I request you to answer in Hindi so that we can show you well to the audience everywhere. The kind of dominance you have in Assam, there are very few presidents in BJP and in the current politics who dominate their state and their entire region.
When you look at your progress.
According to you, what message have the people of Assam given through this mandate about the political future of Hemant Vishwa Sharma? I do n't think you should link Assam results with a person's future.
Assam is a very special case Rahul, whenever I meet you I always try to explain it to you. The people of Assam are in a big problem. We are very worried about our identity and our future. Because we are now losing the demographic battle very fast. Today Assam will have 40% Muslim population in this census, roughly around 40% in 12 to 13 districts, we have become complete minority, so in every election the people of Assam connect their existence with theirs and vote to protect our identity.
So, winning and losing elections both hide a big question whether Assam will finally become a Muslim majority state. So our numbers are quite different from the states of our country.
So this is not a victory.
Probably this shoe that we use in Assam has another chapter to it. Tell us Hemant Dada, after achieving the hat-trick, what are your most important priorities in this term? Because in the last term also we saw that the GSDP, which is the growth rate of the state, was high. What are you going to do to make Assam a springboard for the rapidly growing North East? What will people expect from you?
[nasal sound] Look, Assam is one of India's emerging economies. There is a signing spot and a lot of progress is happening in Assam.
But its speed has to be escalated. Let the government be formed. We will come out with a very positive agenda. And I think the work will continue at the same pace in Assam for another 5 years.
So the identity of Assam will be completely different.
Well as him Basav Sharma becomes the only non- Congress Chief Minister to hold a second term in the state, his tenure will be closely watched for the execution of sensitive promises regarding illegal immigration and the Citizenship Amendment Act. But with the BJP aiming for a third straight win in Assam under his leadership, Himata Biswa Sarma is emerging as one of the BJP's biggest national power centres. Here is all that you need to know [Music] [Music] Three elections, three victories, one man at the centre of BJP's Assam Jagannath Himata Vishwa Sharma, the architect of BJP's North East [Music] Expansion has now delivered a hat-trick in Assam, crushing the Congress, the very party where our political journey began, our victory's crown goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the workers of Assam BJP, they are the face of victory and who gets the credit for the victory? To the people of Assam. The people of Assam blessed us abundantly.
When former Assam Chief Minister and Congress veteran Hiteswar Saikia was trying to bring the youth to the party fold after the rest of the 1980s of the Assam Agitation, he found himself in Himata Biswa Sharma. A young student activist in those days, Sharma had made a name for himself in campus politics by then was associated with the influential All Assam Students Union since joining the Congress in 1991 and quitting it in 2015. He remained the go-getter of BJP and later Tarun Gogoi. Once a key Congress troubleshooter, Sharma's dramatic exit from Congress in 2015 changed Assam's political destiny.
Denied space in [Music] Congress. Himata crossed over to the BJP and we turned the state's power equations from strivingist to kingmaker to undisputed king. He first helped BJP and decades of Congress dominance in 2016. In 2021, he became Chief Minister and now by leading BJP to a third consecutive term, Tript Sharma has cemented his legacy as one of the most powerful political forces in the country. His politics blends aggressive Hindutva, regional nationalism, governance delivery and sharp political messaging. From anti- encroachment drives to welfare outreach to projecting strong leadership.
If a case has been filed against me then arrest me.
What are the objections? I have no objection. But I will always stand by my words.
We are against the infiltrators from Bangladesh and will remain against them.
This victory special for Sharma as he swaps the state as an income chief minister a direct stamp of voter on his roof. For Congress the defeat is especially painful.
Because a man disentangling its space is its own former general. Sharma's rise symbolises not just BJP's [music] strength but Congress is long in decline.
With in BJP Sharma's talk is soaring. Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah trusted him and he has daily.
A Master Strategist, Mass Leader and Relentless Campaigner, From Congress Rebel to BJP Conqueror, Himata Vishwa Sharma's Rise is Now One of Modern India's Defining Critical Success Stories Bureau Report NDt
