Hot temps and high fire danger return this weekend
Added:How's the weather looking for the start of the festival? [music] >> It looks excellent for tonight. It's going to be nice and mild and dry. Our highs are only in the low 80s today, and then tomorrow it's going to be a hot one. So, yeah, just be sure to drink the water because you may find yourself dehydrated very quickly. Now, temperatures today in the 80s with lots of sunshine, little bit of haze there off in the distance.
We have an air quality alert for high ozone levels. Temperatures in the low 80s here in Denver, up towards Sterling, 90s for the southeastern part of the state. Also 70s and 80s from Leadville to Gunnison into Aspen and Steamboat.
So, our weather planner includes temperatures going back into the 90s on Saturday here for the Denver area.
Severe storms are possible across the eastern plains. And then for most of western and southern Colorado, we have a red flag warning in effect for high fire danger. And summer officially begins on Sunday. Now, 82 has been our high so far at the airport today, 58 our overnight low last night. And our average afternoon high is 85. So, for the last couple of days, we haven't been too far from our average high. Now, 87 our temperature at downtown and 82 at the airport with our winds about 9 mph. You can kind of see that haze off in the distance. That's all that ozone and pollution just being held down at the surface. So, we still have another air quality alert in effect here for the front range until tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
We had one in effect for today as well.
So, a slightly cooler here for the eastern plains today, a few scattered showers here into the southern part of the state, but otherwise high pressure is going to remain in control and keep us hot and dry going into tomorrow afternoon, especially for the western portion of the state. Red flag warning in effect here and for the southern portion of Colorado. And here in Denver, we are not under the red flag warning, and neither are the eastern plains. And we're going to be seeing the chance for severe weather out this way tomorrow afternoon, especially the brown and yellow shaded areas. We could see large hail and also the possibility of tornadoes. So, we'll keep a close eye on that for tomorrow. Here in Denver, we'll have 59 for an overnight low and about a 20% chance of those afternoon storms tomorrow. Temperatures in the 50s here for our area, 50 in Idaho Springs, 54 for Estes Park, and 70s for overnight lows around Grand Junction. We'll have 40s and 50s down through the southwestern part of the state, but we warm it up pretty quickly tomorrow.
We'll be in the 60s through 10:00 a.m., 70s up until about noon and then 81 by 1:00. And we'll have partly cloudy skies after about 2:00, we'll start to see those storms firing up here across the plains and then pushing outside the state after about 6:00 in the evening.
So, we'll have a high of 94° tomorrow.
It'll be another warm one for the day and storms to the east of us. We still have a 20% chance of those happening, but temperatures in the triple digits here for southeastern Colorado and 70s and 80s for the higher elevations. We'll have temperatures mostly in the 90s here from Fort Collins all the way to our Castle Rock and then those 80s towards Sterling and Fort Morgan. Our weekend forecast, 94 on Saturday, 87 on Sunday, the first day of summer, and we'll have chances for those afternoon storms.
Temperatures even out a little bit into next week. We'll be in the low to mid-80s, close to average for this time of year. A few storms Monday and Tuesday, then drier air moves in Wednesday through Friday.
