Saturday - 10 Days Until Chloe & Caleb Breed! Maggie's Ultrasound Countdown Begins!

[00:00:08]>> We're We're trying uh the [clears throat] dogs have been in their crates while we were straightening and cleaning up.

[00:00:15]Actually, Mr. Jeff or Grandpa Jeff and Chris were straightening up and I was watching [laughter] and they did a good job. So, uh, but all the the pack were in their I think he's kneading out, but let's hold off a little bit. They were in their crates and we wanted to get Caleb out and he's full of energy right now. So, we're still trying to get him to calm down and he doesn't want to wear his belly band, but he needs to. He's starting to calm down. Seriously, he was jumping on top of the crates and kind of bouncing off of me. I mean, he was a high energy for a minute, but he's calming down. I told Jeff and Chris to hold the flywatters, and if he starts trying to get to all, you know, on top of the crates and stuff again, they can uh remind him to quit.

[00:01:11]Hey, Jeff, would you fix Caleb, please?

[00:01:14]He's got a problem with that back pad or the belly band. I mean, it wasn't on very good or something. I don't know. I thought he was coming out of it. But anyway, we are still in our breeding season, y'all. And um Maggie is pretty much done. Um but Chloe has started um she's spotting a little bit. She's not in full-blown heat yet. And I've been trying to read and and find out it is >> I guess somewhat >> crisp. Don't. It is somewhat natural that that she could come into heat a month early, especially since Maggie was in heat. And I'm still waiting on Reba.

[00:02:02]She's the one I'm was expecting. She's the one that's due to be in heat right now. Oh, Phoebe, you're going to tell them all about it. Oh, look. I forgot.

[00:02:13]Thank you, Jeff. [laughter] That was what started this. Look at this. Um, can I see it for a minute?

[00:02:21]Here, y'all. Check this out. You hold it so they can see it. Um, we did a video a couple of days ago. We received a toy just like this. Thank you. Thank you.

[00:02:32]Thank you, Miss Lynn. I know you sent this one, too. [snorts] But we received one just like this, I don't know, a couple months ago, and it has been a favorite. They are crazy for it. They love it. And then day before yesterday, I think it was, they destroyed it. They broke it all the way open. They started by tearing off each of these little colored tiles and it has a a tennis ball inside of it. So they for yesterday while I was on the video, we got to looking and they split the whole thing open. They got the tennis ball and we had to throw it away, didn't we?

[00:03:09]>> Yeah. [snorts] >> So we were sad and I was talking about on the video. Well, last night I was buzzing around here doing something and Jeff came over and he dropped that in front of me. [laughter] I was like, "What's that? Where'd that come from?" And Amazon delivered that one late last night. It was after dark and it they arrived and put it on our porch. Yeah, he can have it. So, thank you, Lynn. That is just so cool. We were all very excited. The the dogs especially, but but Jeff and I got real excited, too, didn't we? Yeah.

[00:03:43]>> So, that is a favorite toy.

[00:03:47]>> They love it.

[00:03:48]>> They do. Oh, Phoebe, are you cleaning and loving on Caleb's? Look at that.

[00:03:52]She's going to clean his ears.

[00:03:55]>> Oh, yeah. And this might be my last day I'm going to be.

[00:03:59]>> Yeah. Chris is probably going to go back to his aunt's house um sometime today.

[00:04:06]His his other grandma, she had her surgery and she came through it. Okay.

[00:04:13]But she's going to be in the hospital for probably all weekend for sure. Maybe a little longer. But um but she is doing well. You got to say hi to her, didn't you? We we did a video we got we did a video chat so he could actually see her and say hi. [snorts] And Chris's rash is getting a little bit better, but it's still >> he still got it. He's still got it.

[00:04:37]>> But benadryil has been helping. We still don't know what caused it, but we're just kind of taking it easy until he gets over it. And benadryil is helping, but we don't want to give too much benadryil. Just like with your dogs, we're giving it if we're if it's necessary. But um Oh, yeah.

[00:04:55]>> Cuz it does make him sleepy.

[00:04:57]>> The first time I only took like a 30 minute nap. Second time I almost took like a 2hour nap.

[00:05:03]>> Yeah, I had to wake you up the second time just to make sure you didn't sleep too long. But >> yeah, cuz she didn't want me to stay up.

[00:05:11]>> Okay, so that's kind of what's all that's going on here. We just hung out here um all day yesterday, didn't we?

[00:05:21]>> Uh Grandpa Jeff went and got food for us. So, we did eat out. We ate happy meals and burgers >> and uh we just hung out and played with the dogs and watched TV.

[00:05:33]>> That's what Jeff and I do all the time, Chris. [laughter] We're everything we do every day is all about hanging out with our dogs and [clears throat] they're all just doing good. Caleb is getting to come out in the living room a little more now, but we do have to stay on top of him.

[00:05:52]And once he realize it's not he's not going to get away with jumping on top of those crates, he'll usually come over and lay down, play with toys or or he's even been over here to be friendly with with Chris and he loves to lay on the couch next to Jeff. So, [snorts] but u they're all doing well. We're still on the same same track we have been. Um, I'm watching Chloe. I I want to make sure I'm getting sure of when her day one is. Um, she's spotting a little bit. So, hey, Jeff Pho is trying to get outside.

[00:06:33]>> Okay.

[00:06:34]>> She's going to the door saying she needs out.

[00:06:37]>> Yeah, she will.

[00:06:38]>> And she's doing a little circle. Come here, Caleb. You stay in. Don't let him go.

[00:06:44]>> She needed to go.

[00:06:46]>> She did.

[00:06:47]>> She'll She'll go on down. She's >> doing all my boo.

[00:06:52]>> Yeah.

[00:06:52]>> Are you going to let Thor out?

[00:06:54]>> No. No. Thor's going to stay in this time. When Caleb gets put back up, then Thor will come out. [snorts] So, anyway, um I'm I'm planning on breeding Chloe when she when I know for sure she's in heat.

[00:07:10]We'll I think we will definitely get a progesterone test so I can make sure what day her ovulation and everything is is the best. But um [clears throat] so she's she's next in the lineup and we'll be breeding her with Caleb and Caleb will be happier [laughter] than he has been.

[00:07:34]He has not been happy through all of this because he's not getting to run out in the yard and play with the girls like normal. Normally, you know, it's not breeding season. We have breeding season two times a year and two times a year we have to change the routine up, but normally everybody gets to play together. Quit. Caleb.

[00:07:58]Caleb. Quit. Normally everybody gets to play together and and that's really what they like. And so when we have to start separating them and crating them and and letting them go out in uh in groups, different groups, they don't like it. But it lasts about a month.

[00:08:18]>> Those dots on my head.

[00:08:21]So, it's just something that we have to do to get through so that we can actually get to the part we love, which is producing Boston Terrier baby puppies and um making them available to other people. So, we have Maggie and Groot.

[00:08:40]So, what's today? What's today's date, Chris?

[00:08:43]>> Today is >> I think it's >> Saturday.

[00:08:46]>> Saturday the 11th.

[00:08:48]July the 11th. Oh, yeah. And it's my brother's birthday. It is. So, shout out to him.

[00:08:54]>> Your brother is 17 today.

[00:08:57]>> Yep.

[00:08:58]>> And he has an 18year-old brother, too, don't you?

[00:09:01]>> Yeah. He's almost an adult.

[00:09:03]>> Okay. But, um, Maggie will be We can start trying to do an ultrasound about July 29th. So, somewhere in that week. I always start a little bit early, but by the 29th, that'll be 25 days after her first um um breeding and we will start doing ultrasounds and by then we should be well into breeding with Chloe and and probably finished and still waiting on Reeba.

[00:09:34]But Chloe and Caleb will be breeding next. And then if Reeba comes into heat, now it's quite possible any of these girls could skip a heat. That has is known to happen. I've never had it happen and she shouldn't. There's no reason because I give plenty of Chris, keep the fl water still that I give plenty of fertility supplements and do everything I can to keep them healthy and and strong and and you know because we don't want them to be um we want them at their healthiest when they're breeding especially. So we keep ours healthy. We feed a good quality dog food and we don't go overboard on treats. The treats that we do give are are good and healthy and then they're limited on top of that. We don't give a lot of treats. But right now, they're all getting a little treat every day because we're giving um the fertility uh health treats. And Maggie, I've got her.

[00:10:41]She gets her um basically prenatal uh treats. What is it? Pregnancy pro. Sorry. And then uh she also gets um what is that other one I'm giving Jeff? I never can remember the name of it, but it is very important for Yes. Folic acid. It's very important to give your I think any dogs, breeding dogs, pregnant dogs, folic acid, but especially for Boston terriers because it helps to prevent birth defects. It helps prevent uh cleft pallet in particular.

[00:11:23]It's not a guarantee, but uh it will help. And um I most of your fertility vitamins and stuff have some folic acid in it, but it's not enough. So uh I've been reading a lot about that and learning. I've I've been giving some, but I was using a smaller milligram. And then I was listening to a a well-known breeder and and he sells that 5 milligram. He says they need that 5 milligrams every single day once you start your breeding. And then uh you're just protecting her from uh the the beginning of the pregnancy is where they're the highest risk of uh if they're going to have a litter of puppies that may have any kind of u birth defect issues. It usually takes place in the first part of the pregnancy. So she's getting that every day.

[00:12:23]and they're all always getting high quality dog food. We use a Nutrina true puppy food and it's a good quality dog food that doesn't break the bank, but it's excellent for u little puppies, newborns, because when they when you start weaning, it has a lot of u the ingredients in it promote healthy brain development and bone and and calcium and all the stuff that they need as as puppies that are just starting to eat. So, my mas get puppy food and adult food.

[00:13:03]And honestly, y'all, we just about always have our food mixed with adult and puppy because we always have a younger ones like Phoebe. She's just about four months old now. So, she's going to need puppy food for quite a while. And then when the girls are breeding or or pregnant, they need puppy food. So we mix our adult and our puppy food and and they they get some of all of it. We don't just put our mama's on puppy food. And Phoebe's okay to go ahead and start getting a little bit of adult food, but she really needs to continue with her puppy food. So everybody's getting a mix.

[00:13:47]And then when we have babies, they get only puppy food. We don't mix theirs.

[00:13:52]It's just puppy food. So, but anyway, that's really all I have to tell. It's just our same old lineup. It's just our same old routine. It's just our Well, Chris made it a little bit different. He changed our routine a little bit, didn't he?

[00:14:11]>> We have learned so much from watching uh YouTube shows I never heard of. What are some of the shows you like?

[00:14:20]>> Oh, yeah. Reading Rainbow.

[00:14:21]>> Reading Rainbow.

[00:14:22]>> Yeah.

[00:14:23]>> And what else?

[00:14:24]>> Magic School Buzz.

[00:14:25]>> Magic School Buzz.

[00:14:26]>> And Mark Robart Robart. It he shows you science and how to edit >> science shows. Yeah. Some really cool stuff. We We enjoyed sitting around watching it with him. But um it's a little break from my usual drama and Jeff's usual uh the pickers or what are they called?

[00:14:47]>> American pickers. [laughter] So, it's been a it's been a fun week and a fun weekend.

[00:14:55]And Chris will probably come back. He's going to go back to stay with his aunt a little bit. And then um he'll probably come back here before he leaves. He's He's going to be in Arkansas until August, aren't you?

[00:15:08]>> Yeah. August 3rd. My dad's coming. Then he's going to stay till Friday.

[00:15:12]>> Yeah.

[00:15:12]>> Um and then we're leaving.

[00:15:14]>> Okay. So, yeah. So, we'll have time to to bring him back and try to figure out some more fun stuff to go do and hopefully we won't have to deal with an icky old rash next time. Huh. We [clears throat] don't really know what caused it, but it kind of put a damper on things.

[00:15:31]>> We think that it was when we went to the splashback, we thought that it was the chlorine in the water.

[00:15:36]>> We think it could have been, but we don't know. So, but anyway, that's about all I have to tell. So, I'm going to get off of here because I do know his aunt or uncle are going to be calling or or wanting to meet up sometime today and and he'll go and stay with them and then I'll just let y'all know when he comes back. But, uh, he's been a blast to have. He's enjoyed being a YouTube star with our dogs. [laughter] So, everybody who watches our dogs now watches Chris, don't they? [snorts] So, you did good, Chris.

[00:16:14]And uh look at Sheba. She just loves chewing on that toy. They all do. But anyway, if you're interested in one of our puppies, please get on the waiting list cuz they are filling up. I've already got a couple of applications for litters in 2027.

[00:16:31]So, if you if you can plan ahead and you know that next year would be better for you, that's okay, too, y'all. We're going to keep our waiting list open all the time. Now, um I remember when I first started breeding, part of my concern was what if nobody wants my puppies? What will I do with that many puppies? But we don't worry about that anymore. Uh we've been around a while and people know who we are and people want one of our puppies. So, they do go fast and um we are, you know, if uh if I wasn't planning on breeding next year, I would make that clear. And we are planning this is what we're going to do as long as we're able to do it, isn't it?

[00:17:19]>> That's [snorts] right.

[00:17:20]>> So, uh this is how we want to spend our retirement. And you know, we're we're definitely working more now than we ever did, I think. But it, you know, it has its own very special rewards with getting to have this many Bostonans. I never dreamed I could have so many Bostonans. I never dreamed I could have so many colors and and I never dreamed that I'd ever in my wildest dreams get to play with a whole litter of baby Bostonans. And we get to do that on a regular basis now. So that's why we do this, y'all. We enjoy those things.

[00:17:59]And uh then letting them go to just the right families really makes us happy. So we like to to place them with with good loving families who are going to love and cherish them as much as we do. But we do, you know, I do have waiting list and I do use applications. I need you to fill out an application and you can get that at bogansboston's.com and and we can chat. Uh uh almost everybody who wants one gets on our waiting list, but not everybody does.

[00:18:33]And uh I just have to, you know, know that I feel good about where they're going. So Chloe, don't chew on that bed.

[00:18:42]Chloe.

[00:18:44]Yeah, she needs to get out of there. So anyway, if you want one of our puppies, Maggie and Groot are the next ones up and they should have puppies arriving in September. If you continue to follow us, I'll give daily updates, especially when we start doing ultrasounds to confirm her pregnancy.

[00:19:05]And you know, I can't guarantee anything, but I can say there's there's no good reason for her to not be pregnant [laughter] [clears throat] cuz we did everything we're supposed to do. She had a progesterone test. she uh you know, we got a really good quality stud that service that we had shipped in and um and and I'm I've gained some experience in doing the AI breeding. So, I feel good about it. And then Chloe will be next and her and Caleb will do natural breeding. [snorts] And um I will probably get the progesterone test for her too and and make sure we're we're actually breeding on the best days. And then we'll breed Reeba with Thor and that will be an AI breeding. And Sheba, I'm still trying to figure out if she bred with Caleb, it could be a natural breeding. And I I'm kind of leaning that way cuz this very well could be shea's last litter. And I'd like for Caleb to get a few more litters under his belt so he could become what we call proven. You know, he is proven now, but it was one litter and it was one puppy. [clears throat] So, it wouldn't hurt him to have a couple more litters on the ground then and then we can boast about the what kind of a rockar stud he is.

[00:20:32]>> Don't hit me. [laughter] >> She's trying to pull off his >> Yeah, she is. She's trying to pull that >> belly band.

[00:20:39]And Phoebe, she's just doing amazing.

[00:20:41]She's just loving everybody. I finally put her in my kitchen sink yesterday and got some baby shampoo and gave her a good bath. She did not like it, but she did like the warm water. And then she did like the towel uh massage that I gave her. I sat and held her a long time and just rubbed her really dry and massaged her good. She did like that.

[00:21:07]And then she was very happy after that, the rest of the day. So, it's time for her to get used to regular baths. We don't bathe them very often. very we don't bathe them as often as I would like, but the vets tell me that's healthier than bathing them too much.

[00:21:25]And they do get in the kitty pool and play in the water and stuff out back.

[00:21:30]And we do wipe them down now. We wipe them down with Clorox wipes and coconut wipes all the time. They're getting a wipe down. I I'll get their ears cleaned and wiped down. And I'll wash their faces and their their backsides and their and the girls I keep their bellies clean and checking uh you know all the time. Make sure that nobody's got a rash or anything going on. So, but [clears throat] we don't actually use soap and water on them very often. And I think I have a lot of people that ask, "How come they're so shiny? What do we do that? What kind of soap do we use?" I think maybe it's because we don't give them baths as often. The vet told me one time, you don't want to overb them because it does remove a lot of oils from their coats.

[00:22:20]But um and then you know I I will I bathe them when it's necessary. So that's kind of our rule around here. If I start thinking you're looking really dirty, and sometimes they do, and sometimes that may mean about every few days, depends on how much dirt and how much they're digging in it and rolling in it. There have been times in the rainy season, they come in with nothing but mud drenched dog and they definitely go to the bathtub then. So, [snorts] we'd kind of bathe them as needed, but I wipe down in between baths, too.
