[00:00:00]This priceless masterpiece was once dismissed as Victorian junk. When Sir Frederick Leighton painted Flaming June, he was one of the most celebrated artists in all of Britain. But after his death, taste and art changed brutally.

[00:00:12]Victorian painting became unfashionable while impressionism, abstraction, and modernism took over. And Flaming June, she was dismissed as sentimental garbage. And then she vanished, and frankly, nobody cared. She was found nearly 30 years later in a panel above a chimney and then sold to a junk shop for 60 bucks. And still, nobody wanted her.

[00:00:31]The frame sold, but Flaming June did not. At one point, a young composer wanted her, but his grandmother refused to lend him the money, saying, "I will not have Victorian junk in my flat." It eventually sold and passed through various hands until Luis A. Ferré saw her and fell in love. He gave her a permanent home in Puerto Rico. Now, this once abandoned painting is considered one of the masterpieces of the Victorian era.
