Bernard transforms a routine farm chore into a compelling case for the compounding power of incremental discipline over quick fixes. It’s a grounded reminder that reclaiming order from systemic neglect is always a marathon, never a sprint.

These things are taking over!Added:
Doing a little clean up today.
These old trees and vines have just taken over here on this pole. So, going to do something I've talked about doing for years. Clean it up. That's some honeysuckle. Oh well. Bye, honeysuckle.
Bye vines. Y'all, we have this stuff called Virginia Creeper that's just taken over a lot of these fruit trees and stuff. So, I made it a mission to try to eradicate it, but it's proving very hard.
And of course, there's more things hidden underneath. Y'all would not believe the things that have been uncovered over here. So, there's an old mower.
That's nice. That's a good spot for it.
I found uh under that tree over there, there was a microwave and a push mower and um h what else? Dishes.
That'll go. Well, that's better.
I'm just going to spray spray spray.
One lone cedar. Wonder if I can pull it up. Ow. No, I can't. That's okay. I'll dig it up.
So, another project over here at Papa's um is project save the fruit trees cuz we've talked about just taking them down, but Wesley has an affinity to them. And so, I've decided to try to like clean them up. They are being they they have been what is the word?
They're being choked out by something called Virginia Creeper. Let me show you. So, I have been pulling and pulling and ripping up vines, y'all. They just, you see, they just take over the trees. And um it's like once you start, you just I just can't stop. And it's just little by little by little eventually going to get them under control, get them taken out.
I've tried spraying. That doesn't work.
They they've got to be uprooted. There's a lot of life analogies here. I've been thinking about these roots.
It didn't It didn't happen overnight, but little by little, they took over and they're not going to be taken care of overnight. Have to rip these things out one at a time. Um but eventually, we're going to get there. I got a pretty See, I was ripping ripping this up. You got to watch yourself cuz you get tangled and they they trip you up and you fall down and yeah, it's a lot to it. So anyway, that's another project. We got quite the pile of things going on out here. Dixie is um in her favorite spot trying to find moles or bulls or rats or whatever. I don't know. She just she just loves hanging out at the um what do we what do we call that thing?
Oh my gosh, words are so hard.
And yet another project.
Last time I was mowing over here, um the belt broke. So this one the guy said he thinks is just about the same size. So we'll see. We got to get that put back on. We did have some major well, we had a good rain the last two days.
So, that is very good. It has been very, very dry, which I'm sure a lot of you are aware of. I think the whole southeast is in that has been in that in that vein of dryness. So, we did get some good rain. Hay is ready to be cut.
We talked about that this morning. Um, it's not hay weather though. It's still cool. And we looked at the extended forecast and it looks like maybe in the next seven days, 5 days or so, he'll be able to cut and then maybe by the end of next week we'll be in the hay field, these few little hay fields around here.
So stay tuned. It's almost time to get Rita out. Okay y'all, it has been a busy day.
It's been a busy day and it's time to think about supper. And you know that I like to cook, but sometimes I appreciate not having to do that. And tonight is one of those nights. And I owe all my appreciation tonight to Cook Unity. Cook Unity is a fully cooked meal delivery service. You heard me right. These meals come packaged, ready to go, and can be on the table in three minutes. Three minutes. How is that for fast and fresh?
Their ingredients are never frozen.
They're always fresh. And the other really cool thing that I really appreciate is the fact their meals are created by real professional chef. So, this meal that we're having tonight, black and shrimp and fresh corn grits, it sounded so good. Was created by Chef Chris Ratel, who um I scanned the little QR code and found out more information.
He's from New York City. He's worked in several restaurants up there. who's he's currently working um as like a private chef for people and we are getting ready to try this and I'm going to let you know. We're going to I'm going to taste test it right here with you and let you let you know how it tastes. Um but I just love the ease, the fact that this is just as cheap or cheaper than going to the grocery store. I didn't have to go to the grocery store. It was delivered right to my door. So, this meal has two different instructions. It has the chef's instructions which say you can put it in the oven for 12 to 15 minutes or you can pop it in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. I'm going with the microwave tonight because I've got other things I want to do before the sun sets and um we're all kind of doing our own thing tonight.
Just like that, supper is ready. Okay, I didn't have to cook tonight, but I did decide to put it in one of my favorite dishes. Look at this. Smells so good.
Look at that shrimp. Cooked perfect.
This smells so good. It's really hot, but I'm going to try it. I'm going to try it and let you see firsthand. My daughter just had hers and she said it was the best microwave meal she's ever had. So, there's that. And that's that's from a sometimes somewhat picky 15year-old. But anyway, let's see what the 47year-old thinks. Okay.
This is literally comfort food.
Like this to me, this is this is good. This is really good. This is awesome, actually.
So, if you're interested in getting delicious, fresh chef prepared meals right to your door, you're going to want to use my link to subscribe to Cook Unity and get 50% off your first week.
Um, you're not going to regret it.
>> All right, little after supper fun. For some reason, >> since it rained, I expect the grass to start jumping in the next few days.
>> Kitchen back off.
>> Don't think we're going to do this.
>> Something's got to Hey, Duke. I see.
>> Duke, you're not really helping, son.
Sorry. Not helping.
I don't know what's going to happen.
>> Taking what off?
>> Taking this cover off.
>> Yeah. I just can't imagine right there. It ain't going down in the pool.
>> I'm absolutely no helpless cuz I don't know.
>> Look in the m screwdriver. So you take take your screwdriver and push that belt over.
>> Nothing's ever easy.
Abraham.
Abraham.
>> Diffy, we can't help, can we? We're not any help.
>> While they work on that, I'm going to haul off some um vines.
Oh boy.
Come on.
Okay, these are >> funny. You got all tangled up.
>> Hold on. Hold on.
You got gas in.
>> Uh Okay, good. Thank y'all. Mhm. That's good.
And it's mail order plant day, y'all. I have had really good luck ordering plants from Walmart of all places. I really have. And these uh these look great to me. They got new growth. These are knockout roses. Going to put a little hedge over there. Just trying to clean it up and dress it up a little bit.
Um so yeah, I'm really happy with these.
Probably not going to get them planted tonight.
Got to see how hard the ground is.
Hopefully after the rain it's not going to be too bad. But anyway, that's just a little Okay, these these are kind of useless.
See, these are going to be good right here. They don't get morning light, but they get a lot of afternoon light. And they'll grow big and tall.
Wesley's changing his mind on where he's gonna put that building. He's gonna go over here on a concrete pad where we'll have easy access to other things. So, that's good. He's out here working on something, but I can't tell you what it is yet. We'll have a big reveal video later this summer.
Um, I probably said too much.
I want to share I want to share it with y'all, but I can't yet. It's just it's a project. That's all I can say. So, stay tuned for that. Um, it's a beautiful night. I think I'm going to go over here with the guys and see what's happening.
Take a little walk with the pups before the sun goes down.
What are y'all doing? I love this. I love watching Dixie. She leaps. She leaps like a deer.
What is it, Dix? I don't know. But whatever it is, I'm going to find it.
Got her. What is it, girl? What is it?
What is it? What is it? Where'd it go?
Watch her.
Like, I could watch her do this all day long. Dixie, where is it?
I don't know. I hope somebody else finds joy in that.
And old girl Bonnie, she's hanging in there, y'all. 14. I won't say she's going strong, but she's going.
So, I have my moments. I have my moments, but sometimes I I think I'm a puppy and then I realize I'm not.
That's okay.
What are you talking about? I still got it.
Grease lightning.
