This video explains how Beijing employs cognitive warfare strategies in cross-strait relations, including using 'peace talk' rhetoric to avoid military conflict, labeling Taiwan independence supporters as 'independence elements' to divide Taiwan and international allies, and manipulating public opinion through misinformation campaigns. The analysis suggests that wars in the Taiwan Strait are caused by China's expansionist intentions rather than Taiwanese desires for independence, and that treating arms sales as negotiating chips undermines US credibility and shakes public confidence in Taiwan, Japan, and European allies.

Strategy Insights Ep90:Did Trump Fall for It?The Shocking Truth Behind the Trump-Xi Summit Exposed!Added:
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Welcome to Professor Ming's Strategic Insights. The Trump-Xi Summit ended a few days ago in the spotlight of the world. Although they signed some agreements and reached some consensus, but strictly speaking, it cannot be called a summit of great success. The The absence of joint declaration, the absence of uh joint press conference can testify to that. But what's worth noting about it is that uh Trump's remarks about some questions of Taiwan appears to be uh different from what they used to be after he talked to Xi Jinping. So, that's something that deserves some deliberation. To begin with, Trump says that Xi Jinping told him that he did not want a war with Taiwan. While this is only partially correct, Xi Jinping knows that Trump doesn't like war, and Trump love to be a peacemaker, so he tried to uh please Trump with some sweet talks. In history, we know that aggressors love peace.
If they can get what they want without fighting war, they'll go for it. That's for sure.
Wars are dangerous, and the outcomes are unpredictable, and the cost would be too high. So, uh they will try to avoid the war whenever they can.
Following uh President Trump's words that uh Secretary of State Rubiel offered a different line of thinking. He argues that uh Communist China wants to uh seize Taiwan through um some kind of a referendum or a plebiscite.
He argues that uh in Xi's mind, the ideal case is not to launch a costly war, but the lure Taiwan or to force Taiwan into the situation of a so-called voluntary annexation or voluntary return to to the motherland, namely the People's Republic of China. Anyway, through a referendum or through a plebiscite. As I mentioned before, Beijing is launching a cognitive war against Taiwan.
They try to mobilize Taiwanese people through fear, and that's cognitive war.
Because in general, the Taiwanese people are afraid of war, and they want peace, they want to enjoy what they have and the kind of life they're having. So, Beijing tried to utilize the situation and try to use this kind of mentality to promote argument like security can be achieved by way of a peace talk. And the way that they can achieve that is through political infiltration, and they try to recruit their agents in Taiwan by combining forces with the so-called pro-China, pro-communist China agents or pro-communist political parties inside Taiwan to create some kind of room to promote arguments or promote room for discussions like things like referendum for peace or a plebiscite for peace. And lastly, what they're good what Beijing's good at is that they can dismantle democracy by way of democracy.
They can pour in a large amount of misinformation and manipulated by high-tech internet skills to lead and to guide the public opinion into a >> [snorts] >> holding a a referendum or plebiscite to achieve their purpose so that they can defeat democracy by way of democracy.
So, that's our first point. The second point being that Trump argues that uh Xi Jinping tells him that there's some people in Taiwan who wants independence, so there'll be a war in the Taiwan Strait or in the Taiwan area. Actually, that's a false argument and that's a false issue.
Uh I've been telling you that China or communist China has been using this idea or this slogan of opposition to Taiwan independence as a national grand strategy.
Domestically, they use this strategy to mobilize their people to support the government and to support the party. And to a Taiwan, they use this argument to divide us up and to create chaos inside Taiwan and they're being quite successful.
And internationally, they use this slogan or this use this strategy to lure the powers in the in international politics such as European countries and the United States and Trump personally.
So, this is again cognitive warfare. And the problem is it seems that Trump bought it and Trump fell for it. As we argue in our shows over and over that uh if there's a war in Taiwan, it's not because of Taiwan independence or Taiwan wants to go independent. Rather, it's communist China. They want to invade Taiwan and they want to swallow Taiwan. Even if there's no Taiwanese going for a Taiwan independence, then Beijing will label us as advocates of Taiwan independence. To them, anybody who doesn't accept the rule of communist China could be labeled as Taiwan independence elements.
You know that Taiwan has democracy, Taiwan has a democratic system where freedom of speech Well, you can say anything you want, just like the United States. There are some people in in the United States who want to separate from the United States and they want to leave the year the union and we can see that.
But it's protected by law, it's protected by constitution as long as you go through the illegal the legitimate process, it's okay. So calling Taiwan names such as you're independent elements or you want independence, things like that is just an effort of labeling. Again, it's another form of cognitive war. But the problem again like I said, Trump bought it and Trump fell for it. So he listened and he took the bait, simple as that.
Let me repeat it. Anything that will cause a war in the Taiwan Strait is no one else but communism or communist party and that's it. Thirdly, in an interview afterwards, Trump says that um there are some people in Taiwan who want independence because they think the United States will support it or United States is behind it. Well, this is not just a misinformation, disinformation, but it's a smear campaign launched by by Beijing.
And it's a cognitive war designed by Beijing and in the purpose of dividing up United States and Taiwan. So Trump continues to argue that Taiwan is so far away from the United States, 9,500 miles away and Taiwan's only a 59 miles away from from mainland China. So United States wouldn't go to war at such a far away place. So meaning that he's deterring Taiwan or deterring some people in Taiwan from seeking independence.
Well, this is an act of balance, we understand. But the question is when you say it at this moment and after you talk to Xi Jinping, apparently you're influenced by Xi Jinping's words. But if we examine the general public opinion in Taiwan, you know that seeking independence or chasing independence is is not the the mainstream. The mainstream in Taiwan is maintaining the status quo. And as said or as accurately described by our President Lai Ching-te, all through these years that people supporting maintaining the status quo ranging anywhere from 70% to 85% depends on the time and depends on the issue at the time of the poll taken. So, some people in Taiwan would go for independence because they think that United States will support it as a forced argument and so forced issue. And again, it's a smear campaign designed and executed by Beijing. And lastly, in the interview Trump says that arms sales to Taiwan can be a negotiating chip.
Well, it kind of deviates from United States long-term position.
It also deviates from Ronald Reagan's six assurances to Taiwan. Just by talking to Beijing about arms sales to Taiwan is a deviation. Although Trump hasn't decided how to go about this arms sales to Taiwan, but saying so it shakes the public morale in Taiwan.
It Well, Trump may not realize it also shakes the public morale and shakes the public confidence in Japan. Because Taiwan is of vital importance to Japan security. And it also shakes the public morale in uh in the major allies of United States such as the European countries because they think that uh Trump may not be reliable as they see in the war in Ukraine. That again fuels their suspicion about Trump's position.
And furthermore, by so saying it gives Beijing a major opening to launch another round of propaganda attack against Taiwan.
So, it's like offering a perfect angle for Beijing to attack Taiwan. It gratuitously creates a widespread turmoil everywhere. In Taiwan, in Japan, in major European allies, and even in in inside the United States.
Therefore, if President Trump wishes to dismiss this kind of skepticism, the best way to do it is to approve the arms sales to Taiwan as soon as possible.
Well, I know my words may not be widely accepted or even welcomed by some some of my American friends, but uh but please treat my words as a friendly reminder. We have more to talk about in the future shows, but uh that's all for today. Uh please remember to share with our friends and to subscribe to our program and uh click the icon bell. I'll see you next time.
